DropBox

Yes, I moved the whole folder into Dropbox so that I had four folders in there, the three that they set up and my own Project folder, but when I looked at my project it said that it was a Public Folder.

DropBox

Thank you Jane and Tatewise, I downloaded dropbox and moved my Project Folder into it, but it seems to be a Public Folder rather than a Private one, is this right?

DropBox

Probably three stupid questions, but here goes - I'm thinking of using DropBox, but presumably my files will be on there instead of on my computer? So what happens if something goes wrong with DropBox? At the moment my photos are in 'My Pictures' though I do copy them over when I use them, does this...

Buying FTM 2011 for ';free'; Ancestry sub

I also bought FTM for the free few months of Ancestry, at the same time I also had an offer from Ancestry which I wanted to take up and when I rang them they said that I couldn't have both offers running together but if I rang when their offer ran out they would activate my FTM code over the telepho...

Heir Hunters - 3rd March 2011

Did anyone watch this mornings Heir Hunters? There was a quick shot of a family tree drawn up by Lord Teviot and it looked like a Family Historian one.

You didn't say what programme your sister has, but if it is FH she needs to go to File then 'Restore'.

Shortcut Keys

I'm sure that I've read about these recently but can't find the post. Is there a shortkey for adding an unrelated individual please, and can I disable the focus window so that when I add an unrelated individual I don't default to it, I would prefer to stay on the records window. Thanks Margaret ID:4...

If you just want to avoid the boxes splitting over the page boundaries there is a little icon just to the right of the page boundary one that will shuffle the boxes around to avoid the boundaries.

Roots Magic have two forums one in-house and the other Roots Web. As with everything the programme has some plus points (such as a warning when you are typing in duplicate names) but the charts don't look very professional and the way photographs are handled is in my view very cumbersome. If you wan...

Strange Sentence

Thanks Jane, I've managed it - I think, I mis-interpreted the bit of your reply about 'adding a family event'.

Is this sentence structure one for the Wish List as I've noticed another one, when a couple only have one child the sentence still reads 'They had the following children'.

Strange Sentence

Thank you Jane, I tried that and it took out everything that didn't have a date which I didn't want and I couldn't see how to add a sentence. Did I do it correctly? As far as I know I only have this one couple living together that I need the sentence changed for. I'm quite happy for the sentence to ...

I've just done an Individual Narrative Report and it has the following sentence :-

'At some point he and XXX were an unmarried couple'.

Can I change it to 'They were an unmarried couple'? or is it a blip in the programme?

Ancestry Price Hike

Maybe I'm being very cynical, but in my view firms are liable to charge what people will pay, so the more people who shrug and just pay up the more they think they can get away with. Perhaps if more people complained and more withdrew their subscriptions Ancestry might (it's a very big might!) just ...

Maiden names

Everyone has their own favourite for this one, personally I put an asterisk before the name, others use brackets, others 'unknown', I think that it all boils down to personal preference, what suits one will be 'wrong' to someone else. I probably haven't been much help, but you've probably started of...

I was just wondering what the implications are if rather than upgrade I decided to buy the complete version 4? For example would it overwrite my existing version or would I have both version 3 and version 4 on my PC, and would I be able to transfer my information over? I can see the advantage of buy...

How to create a ';To do '; list in FH

Hello Shaun, If you go to chapter 15 of 'Getting the Most from Family Historian' which can be accessed from the 'Help' Menu within Family Historian there is a lot of information there about using named lists. What I do and I suspect many others do is have a list for each Record Office/Library etc. t...

Recording cousin marriages

Hi,

When you select the spouse click on 'Existing Person' and choose the spouse from the list. This works for all grades of 'cousin'.

Margaret.
