Re: LDS Resource File Viewer
Samtan I see from your latest message that you have version 1 of the viewer so that explains why you couldn't find the update. I don't know how often the LDS Church updated their software, but if it is anything like their speed of updates to Gedcom it could be glacial. I've had my copy (Version 4) f...

Re: LDS Resource File Viewer
I've had the British Isles Vital Record Index (BVRI) Second Edition for many years and ran it last on my laptop under Windows XP. As has been mentioned the records are probably all online now - and I am up to Windows 10 Pro 64bit. I thought that I would try to load the BVRI under W10 Pro 64bit and i...

Re: My Heritage - A Warning!
Whenever I join any website, one of the first things that I do if I am asked to enter my card or bank details is to check the renewal policy. If there is a built in way to cancel an automatic renewal (as with My Heritage and others) as a matter of course I unset it, so that I know that I will get a ...

Re: Reinstallation of v6
Hi lisalouise25 When you say that my last machine just died do you know what actually failed? As long as the hard drive is still working - and you still have access to the PC - you may be able to recover data from that by connecting it to your new machine. It would need to be removed from the old PC...

It does not seem to be purely a Chrome issue - I use Firefox (v 57.0.4) and I'm needing to relog in each day too.

Re: Rootsweb is still down
There is an important caveat to deleting old emails from any source, on the presumption that you can download them again later. In this case, Ancestry say "We are doing a deep analysis of RootsWeb, its design and how we might be able to help the community enhance the site and its services. It is our...

Re: Uncategorised Data Fields
In summary, if I am again interpreting you correctly, the removal of the _MIDN , _MARN , and WWW UDF tags should not corrupt my FH database, i.e., all names will remain intact for generating reports, queries, etc. Hi Bob As has been mentioned, the deletion should not adversely affect your database....

Re: New search for the Forums
Thanks Jane I too like the proposed search and think that it would be a very useful addition to this site. Is it possible to allow Boolean searches? I've tried combinations of AND/OR and +/- but without success. As the search displays results dynamically as you type, and is not case sensitive, this ...

Russell, I think you are being a little pedantic simply because I wrongly omitted the word Index, I think everyone knew what I meant :D Gowermick - I was responding to tatewise's response to my comment, in which he correctly pointed out my error in writing "Berkshire Marriages Index " initially ins...

Re: Internet matching Problem on Findmypast
Looking at the two dataset icons shows some slight differences in the text - Windsor and New Windsor. If we do a search for New Windsor, Berkshire this page from Familysearch comes up - https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/New_Windsor,_Berkshire_Genealogy Looking at the references towards the foot refer...

Re: Hints
The reason that you cannot stay logged in continuously is down to one particular cookie, which Findmypast stores on your computer when you first login. I leave the 'Keep me logged in' option checked, as only I use this PC. However, FMP still automatically allocates an expiry date to the cookie, so y...

Re: Help with V6.2 failure
I had a similar situation recently when updating my version of FH under Windows 10. For better security I use a non-administrator account for day to day use and when I need to install a new program I accept the W10 security alert with my admin password. In most cases this works fine, but for FH, Mal...

Re: Family Historian V6.2.3/4 undocumented features
I don't think that the facilities provided by Plugins should be the responsibility of Calico Pie. They have provided the overall facility which allows them to interface with the program, but my belief is that many - if not a majority - of users of Family Historian do not need or even are aware of th...

Re: Unable to display dialog for External File Links
Adrian's use of the word 'payload' triggered an unpleasant thought, which has probably already ocurred to others and been dealt with. But - I presume that the possibility of the image being infected with malware of some sort has been considered and ruled out by the use of more than one scan using di...

Re: Real Conundrum/Teaser
Whilst the 100% way of getting to the bottom of the conundrum is to buy the certificate, before doing so and incurring costs I would try and be a bit cheeky :) I would contact the GRO by email, explaining that you are trying to eliminate the possible child death and may be falling foul of the age at...

Mike
To download a Gedcom on the page headed 'Your websites' select the 'edit' option and then follow through to the Files section.
Click on Backup/Download, then Download your saved tree.
This will then give you a link to your file to download.

Simon Orde related to other Royalty?
I was trying to answer an enquiry from a 'Who do you think you are' magazine reader and came across this webpage (http://www.olshweston.org/debary/default.html) which listed the required Richard Brome de Bary. This then linked to the Mostyn family, and a further Google brought up a page (http://www....

Incomplete GRO reference
I had the same problem and asked the GRO how to handle it - I was told that I could order by phone, explaining the situation and they would only charge the normal fee (£8.50) or I could order online and quote the other possible numbers in the Reference checking section. This would only cost the nor...
