How to create a list of places
Hi Jackie, It should be fairly easy to do a query to find people born/married/died in a particular place. However, i am not sure if you can easily do a catch all query to find people living in a place, as you can have multiple 'events' for residence. I assume you know how to create a query, so all y...

Forcing a match when merging two large gedcoms
Hi Jo, Somebody will probably be able to explain this a bit more clearly than me, but basically the reason that it has not auto matched up is probably due to the 'parents' and the families not matching up. If you find the parents in the 'individuals' list you may find that they have either not match...

Baptisms - Amending Birth Place
Hi Nick, Just a minor thing for you to have a look at in the next version [smile]. I have just been doing a number of baptism entries and when you select the option to amend the birth place (from residence) Ancestral sources updates the place no trouble, but it also add's an address field to the bir...

Ages for Driving License
Hi Robert,
Just a thought. It is probably going to have been your Grandfather's driving licence, as the chances would be that he probably learnt to drive during the War (prehaps during army service), as he is about the right age to have caught the back end of the war.

Any advice re War Office Records?
Hi Dagwood, that was the full record i requested, as i actually got my mother to apply as his next of kin. I think as his service was just in the UK, they really didnt keep much more detail on him.

Any advice re War Office Records?
Hi Dagwood, It is definetly worth applying even though as Gerry says the wait can be long. My grandfather was an aircraftsman in WW2, when i got his record it was only a 2 sided sheet. But once you decode the 'codes' it told me what aircraft he looked after as well as the bases he worked on. It wasn...

1911 Census : nbsp;CREW - can I find the ship
Hi Jane, Looking at the images on Ancestry, the name appears to be the Tunisian. The schedule page suggests the ship was a steamship of 6803 tons (net) and registered in Glasgow, doing trade runs to/from Canada (it was on route from Canada on the night of the census), with a mixture of passengers & ...

As nobody seems to have mentioned it yet :-) Thought i would jump in and point out that Nick has released yet another brilliant upgrade to Ancestral Sources, which allows the entry of Baptism details. After using the beta version for a while, i can say that it is really good and helped me once and f...

2011 UK census
So has anybody started work on a template for the UK 2011 census now that the forms have started being distributed
I guess it could be fun finding a home for a lot of the data on the form, especially the split between Household and personal details.

Glad to hear everything has gone smoothly for you on your upgrade, the certainly did make the process easy of setting up the virtual machines on parallels.
I to had the 'problem' with the keyboard, but i just learn't to live with it as i tend to touch type rather than look at the keys

Ancestral Sources on a Mac
Hi Gerry, I'm probably not the best person to ask about the speed, as i have a fairly high spec Mac Pro with 9Gb of memory, but certainly the 'PC' on my set up runs faster than my old PC did, and i can happily have MAC applications running at the same time. What i would suggest is that if you do buy...

Ancestral Sources on a Mac
Hi Gerry,
I use Parallels' on my MAC, and run a Windows Vista virtual machine which is on what i have FH & AS. Basically what you will find is that parallels basically gives you a PC in a 'window' on your MAC so it will be no different to what you are used today.

1 Census, multiple related households, 1 Source
Hi Shaun, I think you are trying to make this much more complicated than it needs to be[smile] If i am understanding you correctly you have two families appearing on the same census page, with the second family also going onto a second page. Correct ? If so, the simplist way to do this is as p...

Converting jpg scans to pdf?
A simple option maybe to insert the images into a Word doument (or something similar) and then use one of the PDF printer drivers you can get to print the word document as a pdf.

Rather than Boot camp, Parallels is a much better system as you can run a PC virtual machine for Windows/FH and still have full use of the MAC at the sametime. As far as a Book Facility, are you just after a 'list' of names or more details on the people ? You can do a list via exporting the results ...

So what about the Ipad ??
Keith, You can't just download load any old file to an ipad. It's not like a computer with drives. You can only 'import' data into applications like the ibooks or itunes. I have not tried creating a pdf of a diagram and loading it into ibooks, i have just done various reports which seem to work ok. ...

I have an ipad, and the user saying about problems typing has obviously never used one or is to used to touch typing, there is no problems with typing anything on the screen keyboard. Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
Hi Bill, I use Parallels on my MacPro to run Windows Vista, and FH4 and am not seeing any performance issues, in fact the reported 'spec' of the PC is more than any PC i have actually owned. I am also quit happily runnng the MAC apps' (like Adobe photoshop) in the background. What was the spec of ...

Nick,
It's us who should be thanking you for putting in even more effort to create another utility that we all (will) use to save time/effort in recording the census details.

Combining Source Citations
Hi Jane,
Yes the wording is identical (i have even copied the whole source from one field to the other to be sure). I think it's the media as well.
Hi PeterR,
The report is only on the one individual, so i am not looking at the combination across people but on the sinlge person.

Hi all, On the Individual Summary Report, i have the option to 'Combine Identical Citations for the Same Source' and on the whole this has been working fine (i.e. if i point to the same specific birth certificate source). Hi Nick, I'm happy to test it for you. I currently use Windows Vista Ultimate (Service Pack 2) 32 bit, running under Parralls on a Mac Pro. I use recording method 1, with the auto text and attach images. I have in the past done UK, US and Canadian census, along with some state census from Kansas....
