Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past
I had some credits due to expire, and used them to view my Great-Grandfather and have to say i was very disappointed. He was in hospital, so it only listed his name, Dob (which was wrong) and his occupation. I don't have enough credits to try a proper household so i don't know if they caontian anyth...

Re: Recording Military Facts
Hi. i would just to add my thoughts.... I find it makes perfect sense to split out details where approriate. For my realtives in the miltary i have enlistment events, as they occur on a specific date/place. I then have service events which include rank and unit, again these normally occur for specif...

Re: Work in progress - Import CSV
Hi Shelly, have a look at my 'CWCG Build from CSV' which is on the store. I do something very similar with the CSV's produced from the CWCG site. It can extract details from a note field and build families, and events/attributes from columns.. My next version that is still very much a WIP, i have a ...

Re: Importing from Excel
If your spreadsheet formats is not to complex, and your willing to provide a sample set of data, i am more than willing to do you a simple plugin to get you started....I have done a few plugins that take military details from the CWCG site an build the individuals withing a blank GEDCOM file. Re: Residence and Electoral Role
I have been using Ancestral Sources to enter Electoral Role entries, tweaking the templates to refer to them rather than Census, and storing the address in the residence field. Each entry then has its own source against the 'primary' person in the address. Obviously you can use the between or from/t...

Re: Individual Summary Report - Source Image Caption Positio
True, but i find that in the context of this report having the images large enough to read is not really an option (they would fill up the page themselves), i use images as a thumbnail to make it more obvious that the source is backed up by an document and print the images seperately if i want the f...

Individual Summary Report - Source Image Caption Positions
I have been playing around with the options for the Individual Summary Report, as i have never been very keen on the positioning of the images against a source record. Normally i use the 'To the Right of the Text' option for displaying the picture, but when you have a number of sources with images t...

I can't really help you, but i am using FH 5.0.9 on Windows Vista using Parallels 7, on my MacPro, so it does run ok via Parallels.

Advice : Large Look-up Tables
Hi all, I am after some advice on a new feature that i am looking to include in the next version of my 'CWCG Build from CSV' plugin. One of the areas i want to improve is the details on the Cemetaries/Memorials, initially getting a full place/address for them, and prehaps later other details to preh...

Adding unrelated individuals to an Ancestry tree
Hi Dagwood, The way i have done this on my 'scrapbook' tres (where i dump odd people/records that i may want later) is to create a dummy family link (i.e. put the unrelated person as a child/parent) to create them, and then unlink them from the family (via the edit, family relationships tab). They t...

Hi Graham, I found that when my father got his fathers service record, like you he didn't get any details on his medical history (which was quite a lot due to being injured as part of the BEF, and being evac'd just before Dunkirk). When he re-contacted the people that supplied the service record, th...

Recording Death and Burial Entries
Hi Nick,
My preference is to use 'before burial date' on the occupation/residence, but then not have a date (or place) on the 'death' event unless specifically specified.

Can a CD 'website' be viewed on an iPad?
You can get some programs that allow you to transfer a website to an iPad, but its not something you can do without a computer. You may be better off producing a PDF, which can then be emailed and viewed very quickly.

Using V5 on a Mac
Hi Kirsty, I use v5 on my MacPro via parallels, and the performance really depends on you machines spec and the resources you assign to both the host & virtual machines. How much menory do you have available, and how much CPU/memory have you got assigned to the virtual machine, as this will effect t...

Sorry Sue but no. FH is a windows program so won't run on the ipad. There are a few GEDCOM based apps available for the iPad, but you will need to keep syncing the tree's manually

Moving a project PC to Mac
As Jane says you will have to 'run' a PC on the MAC to be able to use FH. You have the three main options of Bootcamp, Parallels and VMware. I personally use parallels, with a Windows Vista virtual machine, however both parallels and VMware require you to purchase the software. I believe (but have n...

Help needed recreating Project structure
Your project folder should have a file with the suffix ',fh_proj' which is th actual project. The folder of the same name should then contin the Media/Charts/etc folders along with the GED file. It sounds like you only have restored the GED file and Media folders, not the whole project.

Newspaper mentions
I would create a source for each newspaper article, attaching the 'image' if you have one to the source. You can then record the 'addtional context' you want in the source notes. You can then put the source against whatever 'facts/attributes' you want for the people, using custom facts/attributes if...

Hi, You can download it from the 'Downloads' link on the left side of the screen, and its only one peice of software. It doesn't stream line entry into FH as such, but it makes it easier for you to capture details on Census and Baptisms (and soon marriages) in a single form, and then build the various...

Online databases e.g WVR, Findmypast and Ancestry
I personally prefer Ancestry, i have never had any trouble with them and have found a huge amount of records for my family. I personally use FH as my master file, and just manually upload basics into Ancestrys tree. The 'matching' function is then quite good at finding additional records for you, so...
