Re: Migrating to a New PC
It may well be more trouble than it's worth, Mike, but you might consider an opt-in config option to actively switch to the more meaningful name.

Re: Migrating to a New PC
With 20:20 hindsight, might that folder have been better named FH Config Backup, or similar?

Re: "Contents" data in website generation
Thanks, Colin and Mike. Re-learning CSS at my age is too much hassle; I'll find another approach.

"Contents" data in website generation
When generating a website, I thought I'd use the ability to include a GEDCOM-download link, which adds a Contents section to the home page. Try as I might, I can't find out how to control the presentation (font, alignment, etc) of the Contents section, which currently stands out like a sore thumb. A...

Re: FHUG Wish List, Plugins, Bugs & Features
Lorna: David and Roger: I think number 3, 'Bugs and New Features', should not be lumped together. Ultimately it is up to Calico to decide what new features to develop, although hopefully driven by users' suggestions. But when users report bugs I feel these should be addressed, even if they are mino...

Re: Family Historian V6.2.3/4 undocumented features
David makes some very sound points, with which I have much sympathy. My (entirely personal) take on these issues: 1. The FHUG wishlist. I believe the wishlist to be virtually useless, and the voting system entirely pointless. I've no recollection of any FH change being driven by the wishlist, and th...

Re: Quarter Format
Sorry, I'm puzzled. The only common use of Quarter dates that I've come across is the BMD Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec style. Why are you suggesting Feb, May, Aug, Nov? This isn't a complaint, just a request for enlightenment.

Column sorting
Just out of interest... In the Individuals records window, a click on the Individual Records heading sorts the names into ascending order (A-Z), while a click on the Dates heading sorts in descending order (latest-earliest). Obviously an Alt-click gives the choice, but I'm puzzled by the different d...

Re: File > Merge/Compare File... crashing Family Historian
Exact same thing happened to me last week, except merging two families not files. Did just what you did... crash. Twice. On the third time, I carefully wrote down each step, to be able to notify CP... and the merge worked! Without reproducible evidence, I thought there was no mileage in reporting it.

Check that the children of all families are in date order
Would it require a plugin to do this? 1. For all families in the database, report instances where the children are currently recorded in non-DOB order, and optionally (which certainly would need a plugin): 2. Offer to correct wrongly-ordered children? I can't see anything in the Store that might do ...

Customising the "Add Fact" button
I've previously customised the Add Fact button in the Property Box to show only the fact subset that I use, but now can't recollect how it's done, and can't find anything relevant in the Help. Help please? Cancel that: I see that the question has already been answered today. Duh! (Though I totally a...

Copy/Paste in the Property Box
The Property Box has buttons for Copy Fact and Paste Fact. These operations are entirely internal to FH: a copied fact has no value outside of the program. And yet, the operations appear to use the Windows clipboard. The problem here is, that an entirely separate Copy/Paste outside of FH, automatica...

Re: Regular expressions in PSPAD
Mike, I extracted the files and placed them where stated. But thereafter, the Scripts entry on the menubar, which had previously listed three or so scripts, now merely offered Recompile scripts . Clicking on that had no effect. UPDATE: I uninstalled then reinstalled PSPAD, added the regex files... a...

Thank you both. The phdesign URL has changed to http://phdesign.com.au/phreplace/ but, after following the instructions there, I still can't get it to work. I have S & R; I'll see if it can do what I want. Thanks again.

Regular expressions in PSPAD
Sorry, not a FH question, but related. I want to edit my GEDCOM using PSPAD. I'm looking for a multi-line string, of the form 1 CHR 2 DATE 7 JUN 1840 2 PLAC Wallingford, BRK From my recollection of regular expressions, the regex 1 CHR\n2 DATE .*\n2 PLAC Wallingford, BRK should work, but I can't pers...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup
I'm well aware that there are a multiplicity of sites providing a local view of BMD in their domain; these sites are clearly outside the current remit of this thread. All that I'm hoping for is a scan of the major players -- Ancestry and FindMyPast for example -- in the hope that they may highlight ...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup
This is looking more promising. Following up StevieSteve's thoughts, if those parameters could be used to search for Parish Marriages with the year exact and the couple's names exact or close, and produce a list of candidate marriages, it would be be very helpful. In fact, the year could be a suppli...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup
Thanks for the positive reply, Mike. Your original posting said the majority of Family records already have a Marriage Citation. So I assumed you only wanted to research the minority missing a Citation, and that is what your point 2. implies. Therefore, the records listed by either a Query or Plugin...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup
Thank you, Mike and Mike Mike Tate: Yes, 11,000 Family records. By a "citation for their civil/church marriage" I mean some form of FH reference to the internet-discovered record of the marriage; at this stage I'm more interested in whether the concept is viable, rather than the specifics of exactly...

Automated internet Marriages lookup
I'd like to pick the brains of those younger and wiser than me. I have 11,000 families in my database. For the majority of the couples, there is a citation for their civil marriage. For a much smaller proportion there is, as well or instead, a citation for their church marriage. I've never used the ...

Query on Address fields
Sorry if this is another senior moment. Is it possible to write a query which reports on the number of uses of each distinct entry in all Address fields? Something like:
