Death Cert - Informant
I have just downloaded v4 of AS and started to enter the death info from the certs I have. Upon getting to Informant and selecting 'individual in File', the Informant box is 'greyed out' and the ID box has N/A in it. Is this a little glitch, or am I missing something simple? Rest of it is great, par...

Re: Minor changes on this site
As one of the few people in the world without a smart phone or tablet, may I make my comments. - the new layout has been made, I believe, to suit those who have one or both. It seems that less tech mortals have been ignored - on a 'normal' screen (ie computer monitor) the topic being read goes on an...

I use the Circled 5 System also, using hanging folders for each family name with each generation in an individual manila folder within the hanging folder.

Re: Census places and occupations.
Thanks Jane
As a newcomer to query writing I was unsure where the year was inserted in the expression. However, I have found some examples, have found that, and have been able to complete my self-set task.

Census places and occupations.
I am trying to write a query which will show the places and occupations of people at successive censuses. Although I can get the places, I am not having much success in attaching the correct occupation. I think that I need to use the Occupation/Date attribute but not sure of how. Also how do I exclu...

That did not cross my mind. I was using a 4G stick and it was full. Simple.
No more problems.
Thanks from Down Under.

Full Backup - Failure
Help! I am suddenly unable to carry out back-ups. I get a screen saying "Please insert the last disc of the Multi Volume set and click OK to continue". What does this mean? I don't have any multi-disc sets and it worked OK last week. I get this message for all types of back-up. At one stage it start...

Re: Adding a Flag
Thanks Tatewise
Mea culpa. I just used a full backup from a thumb drive. However, my little miner flags are now back, thank you.
I didn't have many other custom things and had replaced them prior to finding this problem.

Re: Adding a Flag
Last June I asked how to show a flag for my ancestors who were miners. Tatewise gave the following Expression:- =IsTrue( ContainsText(%INDI.OCCU%,'miner',STD) or ContainsText(%INDI.OCCU[2]%,'miner',STD) or ContainsText(%INDI.OCCU[3]%,'miner',STD) ) This worked fine until I recently updated from Wind...

Re: Breadth of research
I tend to only research 'blood relations', because, as has been said, when they had 9, 10, or 11 children back in the day, and those children had a number of children, it goes on and on. Having said that, I have on occasion researched families of spouses, purely because they pop up in censuses, etc....

Re: Unmarrieds shown as married in a report
I have a similar situation in my Tree and I entered the relationship as 'never married'. This is then shown in the Report as 'XXX had a relationship with YYY'.
Try that
Cheers

I have just used this for my Reports and have a request of you. My son has been prolific in his marriages, but the report only shows his first. How do I edit the expression to show each marriage date? The tally at the moment is 3

Census, baptism and marriage records
Nick Why is it necessary to remove all prior sources when using AS to enter the above records? In some cases I have a number of sources for some of these events which were then 'lost' when AS created a new entry. In some cases I have started copying the'old' ones and pasting them back after AS has d...

Adding a Flag
Now my head is spinning!
I'd never heard of Descriptors. There is no mention of them in Help or the Book.
I entered one as a trial but it didn't seem to make any difference to Reports.
I will stick with your original seconf option.

Thanks, Mike
Initially I used the first suggestion but, as you said, this found 'miner' in some of the text/notes attached to their wives.
Changed to the longer suggestion and, hey presto, fixed it up.
Thanks again.

Adding a Flag
Many of my ancestors worked in the Yorkshire pits in the early 1800's, poor souls, and I would like to be able to insert a Miner icon to identify them in diagrams. I believe that I need to create an expression so thet if the word 'miner' is included in their job, the icon will show. (Some are 'coal ...

Relationship to Root
Over time I have 'acquired' people who are not blood relatives - parents and siblings of wives or husbands of uncles, aunts, etc. I have been trying to write a query to list these people, but don't know where the Relationship expression is (assuming there is one). I am aware that I can add relations...

Birth Day v. Birth Registration Date
I have pondered this small problem for some time, and would like to know how others handle it. If you find Uncle Fred's birth record in the BMD's, he will be recorded in the quarter that he was finally registered. This could be upto (I believe) 6 weeks after his birth. For example if born mid to lat...

Pictures in Individual Reports
I am waiting for AS to introduce Births and Deaths - have already inserted Baptisms (where I know them) and Marriages, as well as censuses. It was just that if I print a record WITHOUT sources, the media does not appear, unless it is linked to the event as well as the source.

Pictures in Individual Reports
I am attempting to tidy up my records by attaching copies of B, M and D certs to the relevant Events - I previously had these in the Individual Multimedia. When I set out an Individual Report, these certs. are added to the Individual Picture list at the end. Unless I show every picture for that pers...
