Re: Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
Mike, You mention an escape character \ We have used \( and \) to specify the opening and closing brackets around the text I am trying to capture. So the escape character you mention is this \ just before the ( and just after the ) yes?? I suppose that it can be applied to any character if necessary...

Re: Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
Next complication: DEATH 1899 SMITH (Gill) Mary Margaret (BD Scan).jpg I've tried representing it like this: Match: ^Death (\d\d\d\d) (.+) ((.+)) (.+) (.+) \((.+)\)$ Replace: Death \1 \4 \3 \2 (\5) but no go. Then I tried representing the surname as ([A-Z]*), the maiden surname in brackets as ([A-Z)...

Re: Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
Ah Ha. I had assumed that because in one place it needed \d\d\d\d to register a group of numbers, that it would need them everywhere!
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
Hello Mike, I've been trying the RegEx example above, fine so far. Now I am trying to do the same thing on similar marriage image file names, except that the part in the trailing brackets is of the form (IMG_1234) I've tried adapting your example by inserting (\d\d\d\d) into the match file segment \...

Re: Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
Mike, this is magnificent and you are on holiday too! - please take an extra day! 2. That's right, that is the utility I meant. Now I begin to see a little light. I had looked at the Help abut it looked double Dutch. But looking at what you have done it looks to me that you: divided my original titl...

Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
1. Is there any way of bulk renaming a group of Media records, Source Records etc. inside the project. I can do the simple renames in Windows Explorer for the individual image names before they are loaded (eg use Bulk Rename Tool) or after they are loaded (if I then link the image to newly named med...

Re: Bug - Daft error message when changing dates
I use W7 and FH6 and have seen this message. IIRC it happens when one fact that has a death date that is only the year eg 1999, and then in another fact you enter has a specific date in the form 31121999................... I can't remember how I fixed it but it might have been by putting the fact wi...

Re: A problem with names
AdrianBruce: sorry not to reply earlier, was rather snowed under with much less interesting matters.
Today, I've been trying out your suggestion for using the Short Title for the Primary Name, and it seems a very elegant solution that does what I need, so Thank You for that

Re: A problem with names
Wow! Thank you, Tatewise, for so quick a reply - brilliant.
I'm glad my analysis stands up to scrutiny - it can be hard to check all around an issue.
With the "extra Names" via the More button, is there a way to attach a Source record to it? or would that be over-the-top?

A problem with names
My mother's ancestors, Bless Them, gave her a maiden surname which gives great scope for variants from Ministers, Church wardens, Registrars and the like. So far, for ease I have simply used the Authorised Version and kept a note of the variant. However, now that I am adding Media etc I need to sort...

Re: Configuring Places (containing Farm) in Sentence Templat
Adrian, I suppose that your ancestors, if submariners, might wish to be "in" their boat not "on" it, at least while submerged? And I do recall being told by a Commander RN that they serve "in" any ship or boat, not on it.....................! although to be fair, these days the "on" seems to be more...

Re: Witness roles
Nick, Tatewise
Thank you very much! I'm very glad the new FH/AS combo does deals with witnesses like this, as to future export - well I have no intention of doing that, and if it later happens that I have to, well you have given me the method to do that too!

Re: Icons appearing out of date order in diagrams
Thank you Jane for so prompt a response: Doing that has now re-ordered the tabs on the lower pane into the correct order, and so the diagram is now correct in that respect  . It has also correctly ordered the Census Flag dates in the Individual's record - ;) Oh Joy! Thank you! :) :D :) :D

Icons appearing out of date order in diagrams
I have entered census data using Ancestral Sources. When I entered the census data I did not necessarily enter all the 1841 data, then 1851 data, then 1861 etc I did whatever I was ready to do first. When I go across to FH v5 and make an all descendants diagram with say gggrandfather as "Top Dog" th...

Ampersand "&" in image file names
My census images are in .jpg files named for example RG10/4274/57/114 John & Jane SMITH (IMG_1924) the latter being the original image number assigned by the camera that took the picture (enables me to get back to the raw image if there were ever a total disaster with my FH data). I copied some them...

Census data in Excel - import to AS?
All my Census data (and Baptism etc come to that) are in Excel workbooks, one worksheet per Census, each Census field in a separate column, Census references are in the first columns. Obviously I would prefer not to re-type all this to get it into AS. Is there an 'import Excel spreadsheet data into ...
