@Gowernick
I've also just realised that Warrington these days is Cheshire.......................if you want to search for BMDs in Warrington using UKBMD you will need the CheshireBMD site not the Lancashire site!

Re: Reliance on subscription sites FMP, Ancestry etc.
@Gowernick, Well that is interesting, as the source of my information was the Mormon folk who have their London "Centre" at National Archives (well they did when I was last there about a year ago.) Perhaps it is only part of the Lancashire data that is of BT origin. I will ask again next time I am t...

Re: Birth Re-registered after marriage
How sure are you that the two records really refer to the correct person, if you only have the GRO references? I ask only because, in my experience at least, it is not at all unknown to find two totally different people with the same Family and Given names, registered at the same register office, in...

Re: Reliance on subscription sites FMP, Ancestry etc.
@David Potter Sorry for slow reply. I have just logged on to UKBMD, chosen Merionethshire from the list in the sidebar and opened it up. Choose the language you prefer and just fill in the search boxes. The name North Wales BMD reflects that the Registration Service has become increasingly centralis...

Re: Reliance on subscription sites FMP, Ancestry etc.
Could I point out another way to check BMD indexes and that this alternative way has the advantage that it is FREE and, IMHO the data quality is much better than the GRO Indexes. This magic source is UKBMD.org.uk GRO indexes are derived from copies of the Original index entries held by the Local Sup...

Re Ancestral Source s, it is free (although a donation is welcomed I think) and is written by Nick Walker who is an FH user. It is IMO a brilliant bit of kit and saves me endless hours: it also enables data entry ot be completely consistent as you can set up your preferences befoe you start loading ...

Nick, I have tried loading threee or four items today and it went just fine. Short Titles yipee! I'll try some after the weekend, but meanwhile I have to mess with car insurers............................................ after 48 years too! Anyway, thank you very much for these additions to a splend...

Some help with Irfan View would be appreciated
My brother has sent me a PDF of a family birth certificate. Because his scanner is A4 and the certificate is longer, the PDF has 2 pages each with part of the image. I have only just downloaded Irfan View so know nothing about it , except that folks say it is brilliant and I suppose it would be able...

There is also a wealth of links to good material on UKBMD.org.uk. It is divided by counties (pre-1974 variety) and all UK counties are there. What is available varies from one county to another. If the local registration services for your counties have digitsied their BMD indexes you will be able to...

Re: Pre-release of version 6.1
Hmmmmm, all this makes interesting reading. Does this being a pre-release mean that there will be some/much re-jigging of the items discovered here before 6.1 is officially released, or is it a case of 6.1 is set in stone and the pre-release is merely an administrative convenience or a courtesy to t...

Re: Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
Mike, I am now trying to rename some source records, including moving the date and changing the title name of the records, thus NAME-BIRTH Benjamin SMITH 1910 to become Birth 1910 Benjamin SMITH I am omitting initial \ cos I'm not changing a file name; likewise omitting terminal fullstop for same re...

Re: Ancestry to Retire Family Tree Maker Software
Well I am one relieved FH user. I started with FTM c. 14 years ago: eventually got a bit fed up with it, so that when FH started to be getting really good reviews and also was orientated towards UK records I jumped into the FH ship and stayed. At v nearly 70 I'm glad I don't have to get up to speed ...

Re: Bulk rename of Media Records etc in my project
Well a week's silence means I've been getting along quite happily. I have managed to rename all the individual image files to my new preference. I've also relinked the images to the appropriate records and made a few amendment to the latter where appropriate (doing that bit manually) Now i would lik...
