Many thanks Mike. Much appreciated. I had the flicker of light just before I'd sent my next but last submission. I've never had to look into this before but was very concerned that simply deleting a record with an (apparently to me!) wrong Id could have caused mayhem!

Re: Record ID Confusion!
Perhaps I should have explained that on p1, the "Family of.." screen was brought up by clicking on the greyed out name.

Re: Record ID Confusion!
Tried to show various screens with different Id's. Hope this helps.
Is there a different Id list for "Families of ..." from "Individual"?
Yellow highlighting is my emphasis.

Re: Record ID Confusion!
Just thinking! I understand the function of the individual record Id but surely, just adding an additional, albeit duplicate record just adds another record with its own Id, I seem to have different Id's being shown for what appears to be the same record depending on which screen I look at. Would a ...

Re: Record ID Confusion!
Many thanks Mike. I'll go for it. I had already made sure I had a decent back-up! I've been there before! However, not having used the merge function before I was concerned about the connected descendants. Can I assume they will be handled during the merge?

Re: Record ID Confusion!
I should perhaps add that the chart shows W appearing twice, each time married to the respective wife but the two wives are only shown once each.

Record ID Confusion!
I am getting in to unfamiiar territory! I have 3 records which have ended up being entered again a second time with slightly different data. All six are shown on the Record list. Ancester Mr W married Miss A who unfortunately died fairly soon after without issue. W then married M, who was the sister...

Re: Changing the aspect ratio of a .pdf diagram
Thanks Mike. I did wade through lots of info, including the one you pointed to, and am now fairly happy with my understanding of this subject. However there is one item I am still stuck on. The way the layout, text schemes etc are handled seem to depend on the Box Type they are going into, and I am ...

Re: Changing the aspect ratio of a .pdf diagram
I must apologise! I have just gone into the FAQ's and on a search on this item, looks like there is a lot of discussion in there on text schemes which I need to wade through and also to go back to "Getting the most from ..." . Something I should have done much sooner! I just got carried away in my e...

Re: Changing the aspect ratio of a .pdf diagram
Thanks folks. I'm slowly learning a lot about diagrams! However, I have not yet cracked it. I've modified various parameters and e.g. changed box sizes etc. and improved it somewhat but then met my next roadblock! To change the text font I went to Diagrams > Options > Text > Edit and changed "Initia...

Changing the aspect ratio of a .pdf diagram
I have generated a diagram containing the individuals I selected and am happy with it. I saved it as a .pdf page and wish to print it onto an A3 sheet but am having great difficulty in finding how to change the aspect ratio. I wish to increase the depth of the diagram whilst maintaning the width, in...

Re: Printing Diagram as .pdf file messed up!
Thanks for the tips, Mike
As a first shot, Printer Name is "Family hIstorian PDF", Type is "novaPDF7 Printer Driver" and Type is "NVK7", so appears to be in order.
I'll try re-installing a little later.

Printing Diagram as .pdf file messed up!
I installed Ashampoo PDF Pro on my computer, mainly to get its page numbering facility which generally works quite well for me. However, since the installation I have been trying to save diagrams as pdf files in FH and failed miserably! Thinking perhaps the new PDF software was the problem, I uninst...

Diagram box Text Scheme Editing
First time I’ve ventured into manipulating the text content of diagram boxes so wallowing a bit! When I go into “Diagram>>Diagram Options>>Text” and select “Birth, Marr, Death, Occups + notes” as the text scheme to use, the marriage info only appears in one spouses box (which I want in order to mini...

Re: Adding honours e.g. MBE and JP to an individuals record
Thanks, folks.
Seems it is not quite as cut and dried as I thought. I'll do a bit more experimenting before deciding which suits me best.
I'm just getting back into FH after a period and I need to refresh my memory cells on a few things as well. Self isolation seems a perfect opportunity!

Adding honours e.g. MBE and JP to an individuals record
A relative of mine is/was both a Justice of the Peace (JP) and was also awarded the MBE but I am confused as to how I record these against her name. I would like her record sheet to show "A N Other JP MBE on reports etc with the associated correct sentences. As default at present I have entered her ...

Using FH v5 on New Computer with SSD and Hard Disk
I am the proud owner of a new computer with a 125Gb SSD and large hard drive disk. The purchase was the result of my old computer finally giving up the ghost! Part of the problem was a broken socket on the old hard drive which has left me with somewhat fragmented recovered FH files which isn't helpi...

Printing Family Tree on Individual Pages
I've seen several references to page numbering in discussions of pdf tree printing. I have a bit of pdf creation/editing softwae called 'eXpert PDF Creator' by Visage Software which has a facility called 'Bates Stamping' in the editor facility. It's quite fiddly but using this I've been able to put ...

Getting Started - now available in Paperback
Re 'back taking a beating', I find that covering a paperback outer with the self adhesive transparent material available from W H Smiths etc., works very well and considerably extends the life of well-used paperbacks! Just a thought.
