Alternative Surnames
I've got one particular surname that is spelt in a variety of ways. eg Within the space of a 5 year period one person's surname (as several others) has been spelt Glendinning, Glendenning and Glendining. I'm OK on getting the surnames into FH at a basic level (ie name/alt name) but keep changing my ...

Merging Information from different gedcom files
I've just been sent a gedcom file that includes about thirty individuals who also appear on my main file. The event information is often complementary. Is there any way I can merge the two sets of information to the correct person as the only alternative might be to type all the extra information in...

Searching for Unlinked Records
I'm looking for a way to identify any individual records that are completely unlinked (ie no spouse, children or parents) so I can delete them via the split tree helper.

Split Tree Helper
How about the Helper window remembering the settings previously used. (It's a bit of a pain having to change 5 options particularly as I'm having to run multiple ancestor/descendant queries to delete records I don't want in a new databas.)

Query to recognise multiple instances
Where there are fields of multiple instances (eg occupation), the query when run automatically lists all occurences - not just the first.

Query on Address
Thanks for the offer at looking at the query. It's working as per your reply - not very elegant though (and info like other addresses is coming through). Essentially, I've got two families who lived close together in Bodley Street over three census periods. They have the same surname but I haven't y...

Query on Address
I'm developing a query to search residence records for a particular street name. Using the INDI.RESI[1].ADDR field I can pick up any records where the street name is the first occurence of this field. But the query seems to be missing the street name where it is the second or subsequent residence fo...

Identifying empty attributes via Query
I've imported some records where actual occupations have failed to be recorded. (The Occupation attribute has been added but the actual Occupation field is blank.) Is there a way I can set up a query to identify the rogue records so I can enter the missing info manually. (Selecting Null or '' does n...

Exporting a Partial File
I've got about 600 records and want to extract those who are no longer likely to be alive so I can upload them onto the LDS website. I understand the Split Tree Helper but my problem is I have a whole pile of information where the person is obviously no longer alive but there is no date information....

Source Edit Facility
I'd like a facility (similar to the one for location) where you can view all the records and the number of links in a scrollable window, see potential duplications/rationalisations and then make the changes/deletions/etc from the screen - rather than the current way of finding the dups, writing down...

Adding back a lost person
Somehow I've lost a person record and their history (about 20 lines of info - some relating to them as an individual and others shared with spouse and children). I've got the information on a back-up. Is there a way I can transfer just the info I need from the backup and restore it to the live file ...

I've seen the other post to set up the 'step' relationship but, to complicate things, the children of one of my ancestors later took their step father's surname.

Merging Sources
I want to merge two sources (dozens of entries in each).
Is there a way I can do it without having to identify each entry and manually modify (eg like locations where is there is an edit function).
TIA

Recording Military History
I'd like to record rank/regiment for particular dates against individuals against a specific event or attribute so I can isolate them. But the 'military' events only have fields for place, address and cause - none of which are really relevant and, if I used them, would be totally misleading. Is ther...

Exporting Selected Information
I want to export the siblings and ancestors of a person so I can the resultant gedcom file to another person. (Probably about 20 records in total out of a couple of hundred.)
What would be the most straightforward way to do it.

Make links to multimedia more robust
I keep my data on a portable hard drive - so I can use my desktop at home and my portable PC when out researching. Unfortunately windows assigns different drive letters to the portable drive - and this throws up an error message 'Unable to locate or display picture' if you try to open a multimedia o...

Recording where something was NOT found
I use lists as Jane suggested. Some are 'to dos'. eg Things I must do when I'm next in the FRC. I also have lists for 'failures', eg 'Not found in 1881 census'.
Like you I'm an intermittent user so this helps me remember what I'd done previously and also what I still need to do.

Success Tx a lot.
While we are on the topic of sources. How would I print off those people who were attached to just one particular source.

I have v2.2.1 But I now see what is happening. Rather than a list being produced for printing, I am getting one source record per page - each printed as a heading. So I have a 220 page report, rather than the 4-pager I was aiming for !!! Is there any way I can print it as a list ie one line per reco...

Thanks - I've got as far as the >> button and all the sources are transferred across. But as soon as I hit the OK button all I get are the sources for whatever I happened to be doing immediately prior to trying to print this list (eg a person) and not the full list
Am I doing something wrong?
