Installing FH on a New PC
I'm trying to install FH v3 on a new pc with a Vista-64 operating system. Because I've been using FH for so long I have to instal my full version (v2.1.6) first and then apply the v3 upgrade. Unfortunately, the v2.1.6 install won't work (Error 105). Does anyone know of a way to get v3 installed and ...

Error on Start up
After not using gedcom census for a while I'm getting the following error sequence when I try to load up I get an error message that the back up directory doesn't exist (which it does) and am dropped into the options screen. To get past the error message I switch to another directory. After quite a ...

Finding out where people lived
Thanks Jane - I'm part way there I can get the query to (a) report the people living in the road I want and (b) report their first residence record. However, that address isn't always the one I'm searching on. How can I adjust the query to report other address instances - or ideally just a wild card...

Finding out where people lived
In my records (either as a Residence attribute, a census event or a customised Residence(Joint) attribute) I've collected information on where people lived throughout their lives (eg Regent Road, Salford). What I'd like to do is run a query that shows all the records of who lived in a particular str...

GEDMill
I've got the full version. IMHO, it works best when you have a full census sheet in front of you with all family members already entered onto FH. The larger the family group, the more time effective GM is. I find it a bit slow in updating the FH file (and my FH file is not that big 1200 records and ...

Is this a bug - 3.2 - Diagram with multiple spouse
I have a female (Alice) who had a child(Mary) when she was unmarried - so the father of Mary is shown as . Then Alice married (Arthur). On the default tree diagram box is to the right of Alice, and Mary correctly shows as the child. To the left of Alice is Arthur's box. I want to get the relationsh...

Brother/Sister Husband/Wife
Obviously another possibility - but the number of events that have to occur in a reasonably short timeframe (2 premature spouse deaths and one friendship leading to a second marriage) make it less likely - IMHO. If this was the case I'm also not sure why the 1851 census would need to describe them a...

Brother/Sister Husband/Wife
The earliest I can get back to is the 1851 census when Jack and Jill were in their late 20's - so your thought of Jack being a partner is a real possibility. The 1841 census has drawn a /complete/ blank on about six people I could probably search for (so far); and searching the IGI records for bapti...

Brother/Sister Husband/Wife
There's been a genealogy problem that has been perplexing me for a while and I'm now as certain as I can be of what happened. Jack had a sister Jill. Jill had an illegitimate daughter - Daisy. In the 1851 census, all were shown as sons and daughters of Thomas. However, in the 1861 and 1871 census Ja...

Name change
You could use the Alternate name that can be found in the detail tab - if it is just one. I've got a few people where the given names (number and spelling) and surnames (spelling) change quite frequently. So I've created two 'Name' attributes - one for an individual and one for a married couple - th...

Unmarried parents?
I'm sure others will give more expert replies than me - but FH treats this as two separate issues. The first is who are the parents - the second is whether they were married. The latter is done via the marriage date - so if it is blank then there is no assumption of marriage. I've got a similar thin...

Stripped Down gedcom
Any chance that a later version could have a facility that created a stripped down gedcom (based on selectable events and attributes) that could be sent to others. (There's just too much personal information on my full copy for it to be passed on to others.)

I'd like to be able to specify the events and attributes that would go up onto the web (and, by default) the ones that don't.

Unhiding my custom attributes from v2
I created some custom attributes in v2. I can see them in v3 if I open the event attribute list and click More/Show Hidden. If I click on 'show' I get a message back saying they are undefined and if I try to define it into the same set of attributes as the others (ie Standard) I'm told I can't do it...

Creating a Website
I fancy creating a website but would prefer to have no living relatives on it at all - other than immediate family whose permission I have. Given that I have over a thousand people in total in the file, is there an automated way that I can do some shortcuts - eg set up a query to run a subset of peo...

Buying Version 3 nbsp;- Advice please
I've used TWR and S&N and they are both excellent. I've got a different take on S&N as they responded to an email within 30 minutes today and haven't yet charged my credit card for an order placed at the end of last year (mind you I asked them not to - knowing what software delivery dates are like)....

Transfering data to laptop
What operating system do you use. (I have XP Pro.) All you need to do is create a 'Briefcase' on your laptop (Right click on the desktop/New/Briefcase) and copy all the files from your desktop into it. You can work on either set of files and then just update in briefcase. It will tell you which are ...
