Re: Some Pictures Missing on Ancestor or Descendant Diagrams
Mike, I can't recreate the problem as it seems to happen randomly so I can't now be 100% sure it occurred on all three diagram options; it definitely happened on all relatives. I'll look out for that next time it happens so I can be more certain In the multimedia window the only images that were not...

Re: Some Pictures Missing on Ancestor or Descendant Diagrams
Thanks Mike/Jane, Answers to Mike's questions are : OS is Win7x64. c2600 images are in the default Project Image directory. The tree diag was quite complex. It wasn't a saved chart - just the standard all relatives chart built from the root record. The chart would start to display a second or so aft...

Some Pictures Missing on Ancestor or Descendant Diagrams
This has happened on a few occasions where a minority of pictures are not showing on an ancestor or descendant tree. For each person I can get them back in a variety of ways depending on the circumstances : If there is more than one multimedia record for the person I can switch the order of preceden...

Re: Re-installing with customisation
Thanks Mike for the guidance :) I had backups for everything but, like many things pc, when something goes wrong your contingency plan hasn't covered the specific situation your in :( (just like the original OS fail) So, given the FH customisation was in both the registry and the program file direct...

Re-installing with customisation

FH was fairl Whilst the pc was away I installed FH on a laptop and accessed the network server for the project folde...

Re: FH Windows go Transparent
Thanks Jane,
It is an NVidia card and there was a minor upgrade that I've just downloaded. Fingers crossed, it will resolve the problem.
Regard
Robin

FH Windows go Transparent
I've had to instal FH on another pc while I sort out a problem on my normal one I'm running v 5.0.9 under Windows 7 Pro - 8bit. The program opens and everything seems to work OK (including accessing the datafile and media, etc.) /except/ when I open a new window. Then, sometimes all FH windows go tr...

Problems with Link to Face
On any diagram (eg ancestor), full images are displayed OK - but, there is no image if "link to face" has been used. If I go the multimedia tab on a person record that uses link to face, the image that I expect is there; if I click the Edit option, the expected frame is there - and in the correct pl...

Missing Project in Project Window
Thanks Mike for the pointers, as always, I keep all my data off my pc and on a raid drive whether it is FH or anything else (battle scars of several data losses over the years :). That's where my main project is - it's path is G:Family Historian Projects. (Yes, it is a project.) Incorrectly, I assum...

Missing Project in Project Window
I've got six projects showing in the project window - but the first I created (and the one I access most) isn't shown. How can I get this to show as its a bit of a pain searching always for the appropriate file to open. Can someone also remind me how to make a project the default. Thanks Robin ID:6589

'Select Frame' Option isn't there
I've got a new image where I want to display just part of it. Whilst 'Link to Face' is there in the Edit Media Item window, the 'Select Frame' option is greyed out. I've tried deleting the image and links in FH, resaved the image from photoshop and tried again. No luck :( The Select Frame option has...

Incorrect Number of Multimedia Links Shown
I can see what is happening. They are double entries.
(Everything was identical except the record ID's of the multimedia object so that was the way to differentiate them.)

Incorrect Number of Multimedia Links Shown
Thanks Jane/Mike, In answer to Mike's suggestion to run the query, the results are very similar but not identical. For the most part the Link/Note entries do have the correct number linked to people. Jane, I add a new multimedia record for a person via the Multimedia tab on person record window. Tha...

Incorrect Number of Multimedia Links Shown
I was checking the multimedia screen for records that weren't linked to individuals. There are about twenty records that show no links, but in fact they are all linked. I can resolve things individually by going go to the multimedia tab of the person record, unlink the record and relink it - problem...

Handling Cross Adopted Children
Thanks Tatewise,
That was the solution I was looking for
The proxy ribbon works fine with the unmarried son; with the married son, the proxy ribbon is also picking up the wife. But I can easily live with that.

I'm looking for ideas in terms of how best to handle this complex relationship issue in FH. John and Ann Smith adopted a baby boy at birth whose name was David Smith. Arthur and Henrietta Jameson also adopted a baby boy at birth called Harold Jameson. Ann Smith and Arthur Jameson both died. John Smi...

Setting surname of wives to maiden name (v5)
Hi Jane, There's another query you wrote looking for surname pairs. If I set both surnames the same, the result set gives me records I know I need to change (albeit I get two records returned for each marriage, which is no big deal). However, if I used this way for the rest, I'd have to run the quer...

Setting surname of wives to maiden name (v5)
I've got about 6500 people in my tree and I record all variant spellings of names together with their sources. Over time, the visible (ie primary) surname of a wife may have drifted from a (variant) of her maiden name to (a variant of) the husband's surname. Has anyone got any thoughts how I might t...

Working with External File Links
I've noticed two things : - after I hit the OK button after the edit, it takes between 4 and 5 seconds for the link to be refreshed as good and I get mouse control back. - after hitting this OK button, the External File Links window disappears behind the main FH screen (in my case I have a tree show...

Also happened to me. I just took a backup of my files (just in case) and then used a text editor (which showed line numbers to make things easier - such as Notepad++) to delete the problem lines in the gedcom file. Issue for me was completely resolved with no adverse effects to data. (That being sai...

Query to search on multiple names
Thanks Jane - the best I could get was to set up a query on the surnames and create a gedcom file from that; then set up another query on that gedcom file that worked on first names. I just ended up with too many gedcom files

Query to search on multiple names
I want to search my FH database to find people that match a particular first name and surname.
My problem is that some of the people in my dataset have up to eight variant first names spellings and twelve variant surname spellings.
Any thoughts on how I might approach this?
Thanks
