Family Historian won't load
FH on my win7x64 pc has been stable for months and was running OK up to a couple of days ago - but not this morning. When I double clicked on the desktop icon FH failed to load. I rebooted and tried again - no effect; I downloaded and installed the latest FH minor upgrade and tried again - no effect...

Re: Possible conflict in research
I had a similar problem years ago in terms of trying to connect a relative with a fairly unusual surname to his ancestors and siblings. Although I had notes to rule some people out I found, as I researched somebody else of interest around the same time, that I'd end up with one of the dead ends prev...

Re: 1939 Register Query "NR230 DEP"
Thanks Mervyn for the new info :) I don't have an ancestry subscription at the moment (I had probably gleaned the site dry of any new info so have switched to fmp for the last couple of years). I'll keep a note though of the info you found on ancestry and when I'm close to a library I'll nip in and ...

Re: 1939 Register Query "NR230 DEP"
Thanks to all for the thoughts/comments/suggestions/questions. I’ll try to respond to them, if only to try to get things clearer in my own mind. /Esmee Pierce/ had 3 marriages. Walter A Ord (1934); Edward Nakhimoff (1947) and Sidney Fields (1970). My current working assumption is that the first two ...

1939 Register Query "NR230 DEP"
There's an entry in the address field on the original of a return that has the information NR230 DEP 29-11-46. A rewrite on the next page has similar info with no date. Image is attached. Googling came up with an answer that NR230 was a code for a name change by deed poll but her marriage in Q2 1947...

Thanks all,
Helen's solution is the closest to what I was looking for; I'll take the risk I won't switch away from FH

Can I use a Migration event as a template to create a voyage event
Before I posted this query I checked previous posts to see if there was any relevant advice that I could use. I The closest I found was an extended conversation on migration and deportation facts but, unfortunately, it got a bit too complex to the extent I was left with the dilemma of not knowing wh...

Re: Copyright
"User Friendly Guide" were the words used in the opening post to determine interest and that I would be interested in. If it is a book, then that suggests something much more substantial (and expensive). I want something quick and concise to refer to. Realistically I am afraid there are probably 100...

Re: How wide to go? (Cousins)
I just keep going where my interest and research takes me - up to 10,000. The people are either all connected, however loosely - or are detailed trees that I had to build up, just to (eventually :D ) rule out that I was following an incorrect line - just as useful though, both to me and others. I pu...

Re: Real Conundrum/Teaser
Picking up from TimTreeby There is a baptism of Isaac William Conway 1 April 1860 in Finsbury to Isaac William Conway and Ann. Birth year was also 1860. The 1861 census has him and his parents living in 46 Colman Street. I can't find any later census info but you have the death record for a person o...

Re: How to Wrap around text on a new tab in the property box
Thanks Jane/Mike, It was definitely the field that caused the problem. I must have done something wrong early on when I created the attribute as the changes you were both suggesting weren't open to me even after starting from scratch again and recreating the tab. Pragmatism then took over as I delet...

How to Wrap around text on a new tab in the property box
I've been following the info in the KB on To Do lists in order to create a new tab with a large note box. I've now got my nice new tab with a nice large property box that accepts text in the correct field - so far so good :) Unfortunately, any text entered neither wraps around nor can I do a <CR> to...

Removing 'Rogue' Flag
After rationalising my census flags I've got a peculiar situation where I run the standard query "Has Flag", I select the required flag "Census - 1911" and I get a nil return which is what I was aiming for. However, if I exit FH and restart FH the flag is still there. The options Set Flag/Clear Flag...

Re: New Census Query not Fully Working
Tx David/Mike, I was successfully applying David's suggestion when Mike's post came in. Yes I do use AS but just wasn't aware of its functionality in this area so never thought to check the KB :(. Needless to say I was able to do the whole lot in less than a couple of minutes. Point noted, Mike, abo...

New Census Query not Fully Working
I was tidying up my database and noticed that my flag setting for all the census flags was very incomplete. I set up a new query to identify all the individuals who had a census record for a particular year and then ran the query again to set the particular flag for all the records. I thought it had...

Re: Editing a Flag Name in v6.2.2
Thanks Mike, I'm not sure I'd ever have worked that one out :) I've tried a couple of times (luckily with a backup) and I'm finding that the software is responding that my new name is too close to the old one. I've got around that by just reworking your procedure twice through a very different named...

Editing a Flag Name in v6.2.2
I created a flag a while back but now want to modify its name. Can't seem to work out how to do it or find anything in Help or KB.
Any help would be appreciated.

Extra Unwanted Box on Diagram
The screenshot below of part of a family tree has this pink box, named (2), that I can't seem to get rid of. I've not come across it before I've looked at the 'unlink from spouses' option for the husband and each of the two wives (both ways) to see if there are any unwanted or incorrect links. There...

Thanks Mike/Peter
Not sure what I was doing incorrectly before I posted but I wasn't getting anything on the topic when I searched FH help from the menu bar.
This time I've got the "Work with Facts Sets" topic that you both mentioned - so I'm now back in business
Regards,
Robin

Working with Fact Types
There are a few things I'd like to do with the fact sets but don't know how - such as making a hidden fact no longer hidden and changing the default sentence structure. I was looking for something generic and/or specific on the website to get me up the learning curve but drew a blank. Does anyone kn...

Re: Ambiguous Same Sex Relationships
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I've now sourced the newspaper article on her death which was written following an interview with the husband. He describes his wife throughout as 'she' so it seems the best thing to record her sex as female but with a note to indicate she was biologically a man.

Putting to one side the fact that genealogy research has its amusing moments and bizarre events, I've got a bit of a problem on how best to enter data so others seeing it don't get confused. After a few years of searching for info on the wife of someone in my tree (who is named as Mrs K xxxx in a WW...

Re: Merging 2 trees
Ref your last post, you mentioned "the only link between the 2 Gedcom files was that we were /both/ in them and so is our marriage details." The fact that you both appear in each could be what is confusing the merge. Try deleting the spouse without the direct relatives from each gedcom before you do...

Re: Merging 2 trees
I think the following should work : 1) Undo whatever you did so that your parents that currently show as his no longer show. (You may be able to use Edit/Undo in FH or, if that's greyed out, you may need to reimport your two gedcoms to a new FH file.) 2) Once you're sure your data is clean, go to ei...
