Query to find date phrases

I have no idea how to run a non-standard query. I'll have to come back to this once I learn about custom queries. It really gets frustrating when you're required to program things yourself, heh. Thanks anyways. Edit: Nevermind, I used the standard query 'All Facts', and went from there, fixing each ...

Printed Manual versus PDF manual.

A friend of mine who has FH v.3 plans to upgrade to v4 soon, and she was wondering if the printed book is the same as the PDF one included with v.4. ?

Query to find date phrases

All I've used as far as queries go are the ones provided from the menu, so I'm not sure how to go about this. After a recent merge of two GEDCOMS, I've run across the odd date phrase problem where quotation marks are enclosing a FULL date (e.g., '1 Apr 1900') when it should be 1 Apr 1900. I've fixed...

Chapter 15 merge tutorial

Is it me, or are the chapter 15 merge tutorial gedcom files completely different than what the screenshots in ch. 15 in 'Getting the most...' show? None of the examples are the same, and I've run the tutorial files 4 times - chapter 15a.ged and chapter 15b.ged without any changes whatsoever. Somethi...

How do I do this?

I've been trying to figure out a way to merge two GEDCOM files into one only copying specific fields. Let me explain. Some time ago, I posted of the problems I was having with a downloaded GEDCOM from my family tree at Ancestry. As a result, I decided to rebuilt my tree by hand, adding in sources an...

Mutiple issues with GedCom/USA census

I quite agree, and that's how I'm using it. I can just turn on auto-cit afterwards and enter in the rest. :)

Mutiple issues with GedCom/USA census

Okay, thanks, Nick. :)

I look forward to trying out the new version - it'd be handy to able to enter in all the data from the censii forms, rather than having to work it manually.

That being said, so far, it shaves a little work off the details, so thank you for developing this in the first place.

Mutiple issues with GedCom/USA census

I've been trying out GedCom Census, and I've encountered several problems. 1. In the 1920 US Census, the enumerator very helpfully put down an age as 4 10/12, which is 4 years and 10 months old at the time of the enumeration. The 10/12 is significant because it helps place the birth month accurately...

Can this be edited?

Hi, Jon. Yes, I quickly found that out, and it's exactly what I wanted. I only kept the few occurrences where there was a compiled Ancestry database mentioned. I must admit, Ancestry seems to have trouble with its own citations, repeating information and truncating sentences. Thanks for all your hel...

Can this be edited?

I'm rather new to FH, and I've only gone through half of the tutorials so far, but figured it out.

This thing has the steepest learning curve of anything I've ever seen - but it's worth it.

Thanks for the help, Jane.

Can this be edited?

Hi again. After the travesty that was Ancestry, I decided to see if I could salvage my data and modify all the data/sources to remove the ancestry name without having to start over and re-document everything with the original source citations. I've run into a little snag, and I'd like some opinions....

A little quirk that has me annoyed... how to fix?

Simon, I indeed did: an 898kb long file with a massive number of lines, such as: l.68 - INFO ONLY: Loaded uncategorised data (GEDCOM extension): '2 _APID 1030' l.1800 - INFO ONLY: Detected & fixed field format error (data loaded using Uncategorised Data Field): '1 RESI Information is from husband's ...

A little quirk that has me annoyed... how to fix?

Over the past few weeks, I've been doing through the various images I have (i.e., US Census records, military records, city directories, et al) and gleaning information such as occupation and street addresses. See the example.jpg as well, an example of what I mean. http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/...

Jan, I'll do just that! You've given me a lot to think about, and I see they offer a free 7-day trial. I'll give that a go.

Thanks for the tip on the book - it does look quite good, and it might help with some of the problems I've run into.

Thanks, as always, for your kind help, Jan!

Lots of good information here - thank you, Jan. :) I subscribed to their newsletter earlier today thanks to your tip in another thread, and I'll take a deeper look at the site, based on your comments. I already have an Ancestry subscription, but if WVR has records they do not, then it'd be worth it....

I've been looking through the WorldVitalRecords website, and while it seems like they have some neat collections, I've read complaints elsewhere about their interface. I'd like some opinions on how good/useful WVR is. What are the good points/bad points? Is it worth the cost? Thanks for your answers...

Yes, the links are included - I've verified that. I don't think I've heard of autohotkey, but I get the gist of what you mean. I did a search on Ancestry's boards, and found someone else who was asking much the same thing. No one there could offer any solutions, either, so I get the impression creat...

Images from Ancestry

Thanks, but I'm aware of being able to save images to my computer when I browse them at Ancestry. With over 10 years of computer experience, and over a year in genealogy, I'm not that much of a newbie, thank you! ;) [strike]I was referring to a program that mass-fetches all of the images listed in t...

Customised tabs on Property Box

Perhaps this isn't the right place to ask, but it's related.

Is there any way I can use just the military tab in this set and remove the census one, as I use the Gedcom Census add-on by Nick Walker?

Thanks.
