V4.1 upgrade

Any idea when the final 4.1 upgrade will be available, instead of just the RC ?

Thanks for the answer. :)

V4.1 upgrade

That fix list looks very impressive, and I can see right off the bat how several of those will be very useful to me. Thanks, Simon! It's a pity that the ability of FH4 to remember last window size and position wasn't included in the list. That would have made things perfect as far as I'm concerned. ...

Ah - familiar with the concept, but not the acronym. Thanks, Jon! :D

Steve, I'm afraid that one went right over my head! (I'm in the USA, not quite sure what GOONS is...).

Hi, Rickoshea. :) I'm afraid you're going to have to provide some specifics if you truly want assistance; asking for data on one entire surname in a whole country is a bit too much for anyone to be able to provide, unfortunately. Try posting a specific question, such as: 'Does anyone have any inform...

Agree with all the above - one size does NOT fit all.

Interesting. Maybe this will force Ancestry to work a little harder and be more responsive to its users than it is now.

Oh, who am I kidding? [rolleyes]

Two record windows at the same time?

Aw, nuts. Okay, thanks, Jon! :) Wouldn't merging be a lot of work just to combine one data entry with 3 others? It's a lot faster just to click, click, copy/paste. (Not to mention, still rather clumsy with this thing... ;) Always finding new ways to do things. *grin* ) Thanks again for the quick res...

Two record windows at the same time?

G'day, all! :) I was doing some work on some families, and started to wonder if it was possible to have two record windows open at the same time, side by side, to facilitate copying and pasting data between members of the same family? In this case, it's a city directory with entries for the pop, mum...

Grave headstones as a source

Secondary at best. As you noted, the information isn't always accurate, but it can lead to finding other sources such as cemetery records, et al, that will help your search.

Question about reports

I'll switch it to an event, then, and see if that does the trick. (Edit: it did! [grin]) Thanks for the info on additional notes - maybe I'll find some kind of workaround for it. [strike](Edit: A thought. Perhaps an addendum to the line 'Additional Information' would be in order, such as (in event o...

As Jane requested, (and following Jon's advice) here's a screenshot: (had to use photobucket, as I seem to have run into an unknown size limit of some sort...). And Jon, yes, it's the indiv. Question about reports

I thought I was being courteous; my apologies if I came across as rude. That certainly wasn't my intent! I get so focused on things that I tend to forget the 'tone' of online stuff. :) I see what you mean about being in the order that the event occurred, but is there a way to alphabetize the informa...

I wanted to add something else, but the software doesn't allow me to add another screenshot (upon modification) to ask a question concerning the reports. http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/customfact-report.jpg WW I Draft registration is a custom fact for US-required military registrations fo...

Question about reports

I know I'm being a bit of a pest, but I'm trying to learn this proggie. :) What I'd like to know is why the 'additional information' at the bottom of a report is not in any kind of proper order, such as alphabetized order. Is there a way to re-sort that information into some semblance of organizatio...

I can certainly understand the aversion to putting important content somewhere that you lose control over. I've had that happen to me before in a different field. The blog is not intended to put out information on family members that isn't out there already, but to focus on one segment of my tree - ...

Help File/Manual

Suggestion for the next version: the manual and help file that comes with the program needs to be proof-read, as I've found numerous details that are incorrect for version 4. Might help eliminate a lot of confusion and struggling to learn the program. :)

Pictures in reports

Aha, so that's why I couldn't get it to work - I had assumed, because of the 'Picture note' field near the top that it was the note referred to by the box. There's absolutely nothing to indicate that box to the left is a note field. Perhaps Calico Pie needs to fix that with a title or make it clear ...

I don't believe I indicated I was hosting it myself, heh. I was looking for a blogging service, meaning, blogging site - I have little inclination to become a programmer or muck about with that kind of stuff (another reason why I hate doing custom queries, but that's another whole story). Guess it's...

'A woman's maiden name is normally used in Family Historian reports, if you want to change the caption on the photographs, you can change the settings to show the caption from the Photograph rather than the normal one with Name and age.' I'm having considerable difficulty with pictures in reports. 1. When I have a picture of the whole family, with children, placed in the mother's report, it shows her maiden name instead of married name. How do I override this to show her married name? 2. Individual pictures. Same example as above. I...

I'm considering starting a genealogy blog, and I'm curious if anyone has any recent positive experiences with any blogging services in terms of reliability and speed. I've used Wordpress.com in the past, but their use of a flash interface (which is so slowwwww) turned me off. Unless they've improved...
