Glad someone else asked, on my XP machine it seems to be in c:DocumentsAll UsersApplication DataCalico Pie&c.
I assumed it was the file names as that had the correct date and time.
This is not as simple as doing and export / import routine I would suggest!

Thanks for this, I have managed a simple 'census' tab which just has my various census flags on it and it works wonderfully (and I haven't added the extra attribute, though only have simple check boxes.
I wonder, before I get too far, how do I save the scheme out to import to my laptop?

Flags on the focus window
I like the look and feel of the focus window, but I also like that customisation of the diagram view, particularly the ability to show and icon for a flag; can we have the option to show flag icons on the focus window please?

Very interesting - I have been using a generic 'To Do' flag and annotating the Note field. I need to determine how you have done this (i.e. actually read some of the manual). It also reminds me of a Wish List Request I thought of when beta testing FH4...

Andrew,
I often do what you suggest - I had a set of ancestors in a small parish and over time I first added every individual I could then slowly grafted them into my main tree. I still have a few here and then floating in my file - FH doesn't care.

If we're doing an icon wish list, I also have a few ancestors who have been in the pub trade and have an icon (of a letter P - the limit of my artistic skill) for the many who have lived in pubs or been landlords

Having had a quick look at the RootsMagic site I can see some attractive aspects to the interface and also the Atlas (at least UK) also looks nice to have. I strongly suspect there is no universal best product and we all have styles of working and research needs and have to make compromises / find o...

When I used to be more hands on techie, I was more up on these things, but from memory: 1) We don't use FAT we use FAT32 2) From at least Windows 95 the file system naming has been capped at 255 characters and underneath an 8.3 alias was managed for backwards compatability. This is why if you use a ...

This has been particularly obvious this week when I have been amazed at how often Jane is online supporting people through the teething problems with v4.

I would say there is also the 'ways of working' problem, i.e. you learn how you want to work with a product and find any replacement product a challenge as it will never work in quite the same way

v4 Upgrade: Is It Worth the Risk?
Just to add to Jane's answeer, I also contributed in my own small way to beta testing, and you need to bear in mind the actual 'risks' are very low, as: No issues were found that might damage the gedcom file at the heart of the tree Therefore gedcom census will still work fine You have the support o...

The groups of three full stops will be an ellipsis - I would import the whole thing to word and change all the full stops to another character, likewise change the ellipses to the same character. You can probably do the same in textpad and make them all be the same character. This may make it simple...

I use Family Atlas as well which I would say is ok for big picture stuff - e.g. births of a branch in a period on a map of the country. More detailed options I am not sure - check out their website. There is also a thread here somewhere where Jane posted some images she made using this

I'm waiting for it to be shown on Amazon so I can order it through Jane's link - if a lot of us did that it would help with the hosting costs no end!

Sue, In the work with external file links, you should see a tree view of how the gedcom file thinks the disc is organised. FH puts a cross against items that don't resolve. If all your media are in a folder originally called e:some pathmedia, you should click on media on the tree control and then do...

I do like this idea - I have two ancestors overlapping (father son) and various bits of evidence that might apply to either. I also have two burial references that don't quote an age so I have initially set them up as two other individuals. I know that overall there are only two people here, and I r...

Just to echo rclrocco, I was swayed by the UK origin of FH, and as a beta tester can confirm that FH4 is a good step forward. I have never looked at peditree (which I will now) and would make the point from playing with various demos that all these packages have a way of working that takes time to g...
