Re: Plugin Runs in Debugger - Crashes in Live
Hi Mike I've just done some testing and I think I might have found where, but not why, it's failing. If I comment out the results display then it runs the rest of the code fine. So then I looked at some other examples and found that I hadn't got a fhOutputResultSetTitles() command. I didn't think th...

Re: Plugin Runs in Debugger - Crashes in Live
Thanks Mike.
A very strange one indeed.
I'll make the changes to my copy and then I might trim it back and see if I can come up with anything to point in the right direction.
As usual, thanks for your help.

Re: Plugin Runs in Debugger - Crashes in Live
Hi Mike Yes, exactly the same issue using the Sample Project. Plugin runs to completion in Editor/Debug window. Run time on Sample Project is approx 2 seconds and returns 152 rows. Once get the FH has stopped working message, it displays a modal message box saying Windows will close the program. Bas...

Plugin Runs in Debugger - Crashes in Live
Hi
Can anyone suggest why a plugin, that I have written, runs perfectly well when run from the editing window, but fatally crashes FH - 'Family Historian has stopped working' - when run from the Plugin List?
FH 6.2
Windows 10
Plugin reports data only, no changes.
Many thanks

Re: Plugin Tutorial
Many thanks for that Mike I've changed it to ANSI and it worked fine on v5. Yes, implementing it as a Plugin was the main aim of the exercise and, despite the frustration, was a success in the end. Now I need to find something else to create a Plugin for to build up my knowledge. The coding for the ...

Re: Plugin Tutorial
How long have you got? :-) I suppose the biggest problem I'm facing is finding the methods that I need to use to achieve relatively simple tasks. The functions are there, but sometimes finding them isn't quite as straightforward as I'd hoped. Case in point, a friend asked me if it was possible to ha...

Re: Plugin Tutorial
Mike, thanks for the reply. No, I didn't get chance to go to Jane's tutorial as we were away on holiday. It was something like that that I was hoping for. I've looked at a good deal of the information that you list - with varying degrees of success. I'm afraid my background in SQL and VB etc doesn't...

Does anyone know if there are any Plugin tutorials on offer anywhere?
I've spent a good part of my day re-inventing the wheel and would welcome a tutorial to attend.

Re: FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints
Which records does the FindMyPast try to match - for my tree I'm only seeing the standard sources birth/baptism/marriage/census/death/burial? My wife had a hint yesterday that was listed as 'Birth' which was in fact 'British Civil Service Evidence of Age'. It was a declaration made by a father as t...

Re: FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints
Does anyone know if it is possible to query whether or not a person has any hints? e.g. Show me all people who have an active FMP Hint At the moment the only way, as far as I'm aware, to find out who has or hasn't any hints is by visiting each person through the Focus window. It would be nice to be ...

Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past
As of about 5pm on 18th November FMP have also removed the helpful code from the link.
However, there is a workaround.
See blog posting at kiwitrees.net - he was very quick off the mark

RJT Family Historian Converter
Please note that if you are using an early version of Jane's excellent program it will probably fail because it doesn't appear to handle relative paths.
However, version 1.3.0.0 does handle them correctly and is available from Jane's site.
Thanks again for all your good work Jane.

Adding Multimedia to a Source
When using the right-click method you should be aware that the resultant file path will be a fully qualified one rather than the relative path.
i.e.
C:UsersDaveDocumentsFamily Historian ProjectsDAVEDave.fh_dataMediaCensusmycensusscan.jpg
rather than
MediaCensusmycensusscan.jpg

Custom tab definitions
I wanted to create a simple piece of text on my custom tab but you can't do it through the Customise function. But you can do it through the backdoor. Simply create a line on the following principle:- Item10=CUSTOM-'text',Y,'','DO NOT CREATE NEW ENTRIES HERE',0,0,4,Y,50,F The empy quotes after Y are...

I'm also experiencing the scroll bar problem in Multimedia.
Clicking the scroll bar works ok, as does using the mouse to scroll once focus is put onto one of the thumbnails.

How to convert pdf files to jpg files
If like me you use the full Acrobat product rather than Acrobat Reader, you will probably find that you can't do this because of the protection on the files.
You will need to specifically use Reader to open the document.

Occupations
Is there a way of adding other occupations to the entry on the Main tab?
It appears that it is not possible for an individual to have more than one occupation listed.
I don't really want to re-invent the wheel by creating more custom events if there is a solution.

Conditional fields in queries
Hi Jane
Thanks for the reply.
I'll just have to be patient won't I?
BTW
Is there a way of telling which items I've voted for on the Wish List, or will it prevent me voting twice?

Is it possible to make the value returned in a column conditional? e.g. If INDI.FAMS[1]>MARR[1].DATE:YEAR NAME[1]:SURNAME else '' The aim here is to only show the spouse's surname if the marriage date was before 1861. Useful when researching the census. Have you ever noticed that no matter how g...

Is it possible to build a custom report from scratch? So far I have only managed to create a custom report based on an existing one. Siblings on Individual Summary
Hi I'm new to FH so apologies if I'm missing something obvious. I have tried to add Siblings to the report but it only ever shows 1 sibling and that is the eldest one. This means that with siblings: John age 20 Fred age 19 Sally age 17 All three will have only John showing as the sibling - eve...
