Re: Export Gedcom File - TNG - Nicknames
Hi Mike I tried the TNG mod that you suggested and it worked as you describe. Unfortunately it still leaves the additional names (*AKAs) down at the bottom after all the other events. This means that it takes some scrolling to find them. I might have to try your suggestion of concatenating them into...

Peter, Mike
Thanks for the feedback.
I will try the *AKA method tomorrow.
I went to bed last night with snippets of code in my head so wanted to try it out.
Thanks

Re: Export Gedcom File - TNG - Nicknames
Back to the drawing board I think  I managed to get my code working and it replaces the FIRST additional name correctly. However, it appears that FH only allows one nickname per name. So it seems that red-headed William Smith can have a nickname of "Billy" OR "Red", but not both. So whilst you ...

Re: Export Gedcom File - TNG - Nicknames
Hi Mike Many thanks for the quick response. It may be that other users don't have as many alternative names as I do, hence it isn't an issue for them. Two of my trees contain a lot of Jewish people and have approximately 450 people who have alternative names, either through Anglicisation, or for oth...

Export Gedcom File - TNG - Nicknames
Hi Mike I use TNG for my web database. Unfortunately one of the issues is that TNG is not very good at handling additional names. TNG loads the first instance of NAME into the 'tng_people' table. Subsequent instances of NAME are loaded into tng_events. This means that, whilst additional names are di...

Re: Add Media to Source - Error
Hi Mike Many thanks for your prompt response. I double checked the file paths in File Statistics and elsewhere, and they all matched. However, as you say, it wasn't seeing it as the same project. So that lead me to think about why it could be seeing the same folder differentlt. As I mentioned, I am ...

Add Media to Source - Error
I've just started getting an error when I try and do this. It seems to think that the source file is not within the Project. Method 1. Looking at attached source in individual's property box 2. Click to Add Media 3. Insert from file https://www.quarlton.co.uk/fhissue/FHerror0.jpg 4. Navigate to file...

Re: Places - Checking for Country

Mike - Your option also works very well, especially with the mass import, unfortunately for daily use it still relies on my data inputting skills, ...

Places - Checking for Country
Every month I run a set of queries looking for various errors. One of these checks that I have a valid Country in 'Places'. Now because the country name could appear in any of 4 levels I need to check each of those places. e.g. Brazil Essex, England Liverpool, Lancashire, England Beckside, Kirby Ire...

Your script did exactly what I needed to do, and was relatively straightforward (thanks to your notes) to tweak it for the specific sources.

FTM to FH - Citation to Source
Hi I've been given a gedcom from FTM 2012 which loads OK after following the guides on this forum. However, the originator has used a blanket source for events such as 1881 Census. They have then added a citation to each person's event, with attached media. Is there a way, either simply or using cod...

Re: 'Text from Source' in a Source entry for an event
I've just some testing and keep failing  The full code for testing is as follows See last 6 lines of comments to see what each ptr is returning pi = fhNewItemPtr() --Points to INDI record pi2 = fhNewItemPtr() --Points to BIRT entry pi3 = fhNewItemPtr() --Points to Children of BIRT entry ptr = f...

Re: 'Text from Source' in a Source entry for an event
Many thanks for that Jane, it solves the problem. However, how do we determine the correct data references? ptr:MoveTo(pi4,'~.DATA.TEXT') To use that method I need to discover the references for the other items. I looked in the various Help files but didn't see (or I didn't recognise) anything that ...

'Text from Source' in a Source entry for an event
Hi Can anyone point me in the right direction with picking up 'Text From Source' from a Source entry on an event. The following works, but I can't find 'Text from Source' anywhere. Caveat : The following assumes that all the entries are populated. It fails if not fully populated, but that is a diffe...

Does anyone know if it is possible to pick up, in a query, that a place's Geocode is flagged as 'Tentative' ?
Thanks

Re: Mysterious doubling of file size
Hi Bill
Many thanks for that, it solved the issue.
Because my own files are relatively small I have never had reason to notice.
It was because the new file was so much larger that it jumped out at me.
Many thanks

Mysterious doubling of file size
I wonder if anyone has come across this before:- I have been given a gedcom created in FH v5 It is 20MB Looked at in a text editor it reports: Lines: 726,153 Length: 20,314,388 I then open it in FH 6.2.2 Simply click on Save, and then exit. Windows Explorer (Win 10) now reports it as 40 MB! Re-openi...

=AgeAt - fixed value in query
Hi
Is it possible to use AgeAt in a query with a fixed value rather than having it prompt.
e.g. =AgeAt(%INDI%, 1960)
I know it's not a major issue, but it would be nice.
Thanks

Re: Plugin Runs in Debugger - Crashes in Live
I tried it again this morning after making a couple of tweaks and it went back to crashing every time when run 'Live'. Again, it was a mod to the tables. I added an extra table, insert, and display. Deleting the mod made no difference. When I reverted to last night's saved copy it all worked again. ...

Re: Plugin Runs in Debugger - Crashes in Live
Yes, I think we are going to have agree to disagree on this point :-) The way I see it is that the database needs to suit the user's needs as well as the genealogical needs. Ideally I would love creation dates for all records as opposed to just mod dates for INDI and OBJE records etc. Too many years...

Re: Plugin Runs in Debugger - Crashes in Live
Yes, strange. In case you are wondering why I wrote this particular plugin: 1. I wanted to get some more experience with Lua in FH 2. Wanted the challenge 3. It meets a need There are mixed opinions on the use of 'Entry Date' for sources. For our convenience we choose to use it as the date we added ...
