David,
Thankyou. You're right. I've found it now. Bullingdon Register Office is in Wheatley which is between Oxford and Thame.

Registration district
Hello all, I have found a GRO death record index for 1967 in the registration district of Bullingdon [GRO volume number 6b]. Is anyone able to tell me where this is? There is a list of registration districts on the GENUKI website for the years 1837 to 1930 but is anyone aware of a listing of the reg...

Beth,
I have added a marriage date column but I have added it to the family record screen. There is a marriage date event provided for you use to add to the columns of the family record screen.
Is this what you want?

How To Animations
Jane, That was excellent. When the FH record window was shown it more than filled my screen so I had to scroll down to see the action (probably to do with my screen resolution size). However this made no difference at all as all of the animation takes place in the lower half of the window. 10 out of...

I thought it may have been for some reason like that but I was not certain. It has been suggested to me that the mother of the ancestor of mine that this applied to had been married twice. Two surnames were given for my ancestor in her marriage index. Presumably these were her mother's two married n...

Printing Lists
Jeremy,
Lists are printed as a 'list report'. Go to 'reports', then 'more reports' then 'list report' then select the required list and print that in the usual way.

In the GRO marriage index, the spouse of a person I was researching is given as 'Brown or Green'. If the index for 'Brown' and 'Green' is searched, both of these check back to the starting name. I have also noticed other similar instances. I think that the Brown and Green are the same person as the ...

Jane, I know what you are saying, that the greyed out text is the appearance, in the 'parents family', of the individual you are looking at. This I can see. This was a feature of FH as far back as version 2.0.7 so I am not sure that this is what is meant by that statement in the 'improvements to the...

Hello all, In the notes 'whats new in FH 2.2' in the paragraph 'Improvements to the records window' there is a line which says 'un-editable data is now greyed to make it clearer that the data is not editable'. How do I see this greyed data, what is it, where is it? I seem to remember when I first in...

Robert, The numbers you see are the record IDs for the record they follow. They are a new feature to FH version 2.2 and they can be turned off if you wish. Go to 'tools', 'record window options' and uncheck the box 'show record IDs for linked records'. All of the new features in 2.2 are explained if...

Jane,
I am using version 2.1.8. The record window font has never been a problem to me but your note mentioned something I had not seen before so I thought I would look for it.
I shall wait and see. [wink]

Jane, I can't find where you mean. I go 'tools' then 'record window options'. I am then faced with two tabs - General and advanced. General has places to control which columns show on the record window and advanced has check boxes to control the display of things like a family's husband/wife details...

Old English Counties
Ian, Thankyou. Your reasoning makes sense to me so I think I shall adopt this method. With the London counties it is necessary to be careful as there have been several boundary changes. I have an ancestor who was born in Kensington Middlesex in the 1860s and was married in Kensington London after 18...

Old English Counties
Many of my ancestors were born/married/died in places such as Paddington or Kensington which at that time were in Middlesex, a county which no longer exists, or in St Neots which was in Hunts but is now in Cambs. You all must have examples where a place is now in a different county to what it was. I...

New site layout
Jane,
10/10 for the new site appearance. It is similar enough to the old layout to be comfortable and familiar and yet it is different enough to look new, modern and fresh.
Well done and thankyou. [grin]

I think I need more information on this. Are you printing a report, a query or a diagram?

Emigrated / Immigrated
I puzzled over this when I first used it but now I think it works out fine. My relative emigrated FROM England on a given date and he imigrated TO Canada on another given date. When he was in England he emigrated FROM that country and when he was in Canada he had imigrated TO that country. Hope that...

Yasmin,
For the case you describe I create sources of 'xxxxx parish records' and 'yyyy parish records' etc. I then have the relevant County Record office as the repository.

I'm a bit confused when you say 'I set up an abbreviated text scheme for spouses and then clicked on spouse to associate it with them' . I presume that you are working in 'Diagram options' 'text'. In the 'text' pane there is a panel headed 'box type'. To add a text scheme for spouses you should firs...

Newbie question on name changes
Dominic, I'm interested in this also because I have an instance of a name change in my wife's ancestors. Whether this name change was ever formalised in any way I do not yet know. Deed poll was only one way of making a name change. Is a deed poll a document that one could get a copy of? If so, then ...

The whole text scheme work fine for me and have created my own scheme with different text in the default box and the proxy box and the duplicate box. I cannot think what you are doing wrong. I use primary for information gained from a B,M or D certificate, where I have a copy of it; or from a census return where I have a copy or have seen a copy; or from a parish record where I have seen the entry. I use secondary for information which I have not corroborated and which was given to me b...

One of the great strengths of FH is that within the programme there is usually more than one way to do something and so it is with sources. There is no right or wrong way, FH allows you to choose how you wish to record your information. I record each census year as a source and create a census event...

Ivan, Would you be a little more specific. Are you trying to print diagrams, queries, reports or what? As a test, produce a query on the screen, any one will do (eg Boy's names). Them click on the button with the printer symbol. This should bring up a 'print' panel. Click 'ok' on this panel and the ...
