Project versus Gedcom file
Anne If you store your media in the respective project folder, which is the recommended method, the best thing to do is to copy the whole folder across to your main computer when it is ready. (found in 'My documents' 'Family Historian Projects' in Win XP). This way any linked media is also copied ov...

Children Step or Natural
I think this should work.
In the record window select one of the children. Then go EDIT - UNLINK FROM - PARENTS and then select the incorrect parents from those offered and click on OK.
Then do the same with the other children.

Adding media
Well now all projects seem to add media correctly except for the reserve copy. Perhaps it is because the reserve is not a project in its own right . I corrected the other faulty project by opening my default project and then opening the faulty project via 'file project window' rather than by 'file g...

I have about 7 projects. When I add a picture to most of the projects I get a panel which asks if I wish to copy the file to the project folder. This is correct. However when I add the same picture to a couple of the projects I am not offered this panel and the picture is immediately added [as it wa...

Gerry,
No Gerry, exactly the same happens if you try to go to the media folder - you are presented with the last used one and not necessarily the one for the project you are working with. See original post.

Jane now insert an image but using a different project and you will see my point. Yes Peter R that was my point. Additionally, if you add media to a fact as in the demo and use 'insert from file' instead of using 'link to existing media record' as in the video you are taken to the public folder. How...

Adding media
I have just started using version 4 and am delighted with it. I have put my several files into projects with the media for each into its own dedicated media folder within its project folder as recommended. However, when I am working in a project and go to add media the media folder that I am present...

Thanks folks for your helpful replies. I too now believe that in co. Ebor and in com. Ebor mean in the County of York as these words are always preceded by a Yorkshire place name.(eg North Dalton) Why sometimes co. and sometimes com. I don't know. oet = of the age also fits as that is always followe...

I don't think it is possible at the moment to enlarge the size of the property dialogue or to change the font used. Maybe in version 4 ???

Inserting pictures
When I insert a picture that I wish to attach only a part of to a person I would not insert it as a 'new record linked to xxx' but as a 'new unlinked record'. I would then find the picture in the multimedia window and draw the frame around the face and link it to the person using the 'new frame & li...

Ross,
You can alter the colour plus many other things on the curves.
When viewing the 'Diagram options ' 'general' tab press the button marked 'options' next to the wording 'check for duplicates'.

I can do no better than to refer you to page 12 [the last page of chapter 1] of the manual 'Getting the most out of Family Historian' which can be accessed from the help command at the top of the FH screen.

Late husband/wife
Patrick,
I believe that in this case it is the husband that has been buried, after all at the time of his burial he is 'late' ie deceased.
If it were the wife being buried I have seen Mary Smith wife of John Smith or if her husband had pre-deceased her then Mary Smith widow of John Smith.

Hi all, As a follow up to my enquiry, I have just visited the Bucks local study centre and searched for a marriage for this person to see if I could decipher that entry. Peter, If you get your parent's marriage cert then you should learn their father's names. They should be in the 1901 census. My local library, in England, subscribes to Ancestry.com and so library members are able to log on and use the site free. This may enable you to learn something about your par...

As you said 'everyone' shows all people in your database whether they are related to you or not and 'all relatives' show all and only those who are related to the diagram root.
