using flash drive
When I want to save my projects to a flash drive I open the 'Family Historian Projects' folder then right click on each project folder as needed. I then run down the offered list to 'send to' and choose usb device. I then use copy & paste to get the folder from the flash drive to the other computer....

Baptism date help
Thanks Nick & tatewise - that is the way I guessed that it must be. I have never come across this notation before, I wonder, is it common or was it something used by the particular scribe on this parish register?

Baptism date help
I am unsure of the date of the baptism highlighted here. What are the meaning of the marks C i & j. I guess that the baptism date is the 24th but I would like to be sure and to understand the marks. Is anyone able to help me? TIA Peter E http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/Baptism_Henry_Fleetw...

People with no proof of existance
I do the same as PeterR.
I have a flag for 'probable link' and then, using thism flag, arrange that all people with this flag have a dotted line around their box instead of a solid one. I do, of course, link them to their probable place in the tree.

Re Installing F.H. Files
If you are using projects you can copy and paste the folder ' Family Historian Projects' from your external drive to you new 'my documents'. This would also contain any linked media.

Property Box Tab Organiser
Tatewise, Thanks for that. I placed my Family Historian folder inside another folder [Family History] along with other family history related programmes eg. ParLoc & RJTDateCalc simply to keep things tidier and more orderly. It will not be a problem at all for me to move my Family Historian folder b...

Tatewise, I have downloaded the Property Box Tab Organiser but I get a code 280 error. My Family Historian folder is in C:Program FilesFamily HistoryFamily Historian not C:Program FilesFamily Historian as the organiser expects so it cannot find the Property Box. Is there any way to point the organis...

Unmarried parents - child's surname
My own experience of birth certificates post 1837 [in England & Wales] is that the surname of the child is not given. The Christian name of the child plus the name of the father and mother and the mother's maiden name is given. From this it is not possible to know what surname the child used in case...

Go to 'tools' 'work with record identifiers' and then follow the instructions to remove unused record numbers and re-number the remainder. Then, hopefully, your totals should tally.

John,
That is because you have not selected an individual or couple to base the diagram on. Click on an individual and then go to 'view' and 'standard diagram' and then the other options should be available.

I don't think it asks your gender either. This could be important with some of the unusual names that have been used.

Missing Lists Toolbar
Do you mean that when you are looking at the records window you then cannot see the button in the toolbar to open the lists pane? In an earlier version of FH v4 [can't remember which one] if you opened the programme NOT into the focus window but directly to the records window, then the lists button ...

If I open the record window for multimedia and select a multimedia record and then open the multimedia window I can see the link/notes attached to that record. If, when viewing the record window...

There has been no comment from Calico Pie on this yet. Does Simon normally monitor this forum or do I need to advise him of the thread?

Gerry,
I meant to add that this save only fails in this manner if you are using a custom diagram, standard diagrams save ok.

Gerry, Yes I do what you said and I end up with the screen that you show. The file name offered by FH is as in my original post. In the file path suggested Fh has added inverted commas around the name of my custom diagram in this case I had called the custom diagram census (without any inverted comm...

Saving custom diagrams as PDF
Jane The problem is that I did not put the inverted commas around the custom diagram title. I simply used normal letters eg census or occupation. The inverted commas just appear in the file path presumably put there by FH. Also if I view a custom diagram then the title at the top of the screen gives...

Ron, I have tried this and I have the 3 children displayed. I have the property box floating so it is shown full size. One way would be to give each of the new entries a flag. Then you could use this flag to alter the features of the person's box in a diagram. So for example you could change the box colour or its shape or change the font. You could also put all of the 'new unproven' people into a dedicated list and ...

I think I'm right in saying that you cannot use the v4 upgrade on version 2, it only works when you have version 3. Therefore you would need to buy the full version of 4

Changing the name of a customised tab - how to?
Helen & Jon, Many thanks I have it now. I had got as far as opening the property box with notepad but the property box was empty. Changing the name of a customised tab - how to?
I have been following this out of interest and I am still puzzled. I have found the 9 fh data files as shown in Jon's reply but what do I do then please? None of them show the name of my custom tab which I have named 'flags'. Maybe I'm being very dim but I cannot open any of these fh data files and ...
