Re: Marriages

Thanks for the replies. Given the limited information you have about the mother, the next steps would normally be to identify the possible individuals (which you've already done), and then try to begin to narrow down the possibles, until you only have one left: a) As the child was born in 1902, were...

Re: Marriages

An update ... Finally have a copy of the BC - mother is given as Jane SAW, Domestic Servant; however both father and his occupation are blank. The mother's address is potentially close to where my Grandfather was raised. Some initial searches, which will need a little more confirmation show three Ja...

Re: Marriages

Isn't this a continuation of the 13220|Adoption? thread? Yes and no ... I have had "verbal" confirmation that he was not adopted (no proof either way) and apparently he had a sister living maybe 10 miles away. It is the parents of the person referred to that I used as an example and what I hoped mi...

Re: Marriages

I have almost NOTHING to go on! I am about to apply for a birth certificate which "may" give some further insight however the person that is causing a blockage could have been either a foundling or adopted - family heresay, he was born in 1902. And there is also rumour that he may have been the son ...

Marriages

Is there any way to link marriages of two people without applying for copies of the certificates? Just going on a hunch can start to prove expensive. I am looking for a possible marriage of BOOT and SAW sometime between 1900 and 1910, probably in UXBRIDGE. We do not know which surname related to the...

Re: Adoption?

Thanks for te comments. The Birth Cert is a short version and I was told that a full one could not be found/provided. However, I will try to apply for a full cert and see what comes back. I have spoken with my elderly uncle and aunts - 80+ yo, in some detail. All they know are rumours/speculation - ...

Re: Adoption?

The Birth Certificate only gives the date 17th June 1902 and the Registration District and Sub District - nothing further.

I have located a copy of his marriage certificate - that gives his fathers name, however, we are uncertain of the validity of that entry.

Adoption?

My Grandfather is presenting a "dead-end" and even his three surviving children, two aunts and an uncle cannot throw any more light on it. He was born in 1902 - and the registers show that. However, at that time the mother's name was not recorded. His children never met his parents and he married on...

Re: Conscription in the Great War

Adrian, Thanks for your comments and links ... the reserved occupations and exemptions is certainly "confusing" in parts. Valkrider, Thanks too, yes I have is Warrant Number and will follow up - I know where he was based - two locations. Unfortunately, he was later killed whilst on duty so appears o...

Conscription in the Great War

Doing some research on a Great Uncle, Joseph, b. 1893 He was a Police Constable at the outbreak of war and did not enlist as a volunteer. His brother, my Grandfather, was conscripted under the 1916 act and was seriously wounded in early 1918. During the war Joseph was reassigned or relocated from th...

Thanks for that latest ... it look similar to what I was trying but I will go though it line by line again as I do the Merge.

I have the advantage of two screens to use ... so it is easy enough to have several windows visible.

Importing families ...

I am very computer literate but for some reason my brain does not want to help me do what I want. I have a very large family at my grandparent level - possibly 40 plus their spouses and each of those with 3, 4, 5, 6 children ... and I have been working across them. I recently located a distant cousi...

Marriage and a question ...

Thanks - so illegal now, but I wonder about back in 1890/1900?

The Great Great Uncle's father was a Minister at the local chapel too - and that pushes me to believe that at that time it was legal.

The exemptions almost certainly don't apply as the daughter would have lived in the same household.

Marriage and a question ...

I have gone back several generations and across to the brother of one of my Great-Grandparents and I was getting some strange loops and relationships which did not look right. Further research may have turned up the answer ... My Great Great Uncle married a woman who already had at least one child. ...
