Thanks Mike, yes I had seen that, the "problem" which will not be, is getting FH onto the new PC first!
The new PC is unbelievably small - Dell XPS 13" with a power supply that is probably 50mm square and 15mm thick!

Re: Installing software when no DVD drive installed
Thanks Jane,
Nice and simple. Just that some applications are not that easy and you need to create an ISO file of the CD, then run another reader to launch the ISO, ... so I am just check with quite a few applications/programmes.
And yes, it is V5 on CD with the code.

Installing software when no DVD drive installed
I currently use V5 and will ultimately upgrade to 6 - the total cost of that along with numerous other applications is high, so needs to wait. A new PC has arrived and I need to move across to that, however it is an ultralight unit without a DVD drive and I do not at present have a USB connected dri...

Hyphenated Surnames
I have a few double-barrelled or hyphenated surnames in some data bases and it is frustrating that they can be treated differently between individuals. In some cases the full name fits a single line and in others it requires two, however, quite often it will split the family name at the hyphen which...

ALL relatives and associated people
I am trying to build a diagram that shows ALL relatives and associated people connected with my wife's parents. If I base it around my wife, I can get all relatives (I believe) and most of that is fine. I have access to a high quality photo printer that will produce an image up to around 900mm high ...
Re: Divorces
Thanks for all the comments. I would have hoped that there would be a searchable central database held containing just the primary details - I am not really interested in the case details. There is no restriction on the press printing the details of every application for a divorce and the Office of ...
Divorces
Is there a central searchable data set that hold recent divorce records? Probably from 1970 onwards ...

You don't need to use a separate photo processing application. With the chart open, right click and select Insert into Diagram > Picture then browse ...

That seems to get me almost there! Just need to confirm a few exact dates and do a few small tweaks and that will be it!
Thanks.
Thanks.

Here is an image ... the small block in light pink which is my Aunt's Mother, father, step-father and siblings would be better placed out to the right where I have photoshop copied and pasted them in dark pink.

Re: All Relatives Diagram
Thanks again.
Yes, I have tried the Enable Moving/Resizing and whilst it allows Up/Down, I cannot get it to allow Left/Right.
I will do a screen grab and then annotate that with what I am trying to do. It will probably be this evening before I get a chance.

Re: All Relatives Diagram
Have just done a quick try out working towards the finished diagram and it is starting to look promising. Need to decide who to keep in at which level. For example, nieces and nephews- yes, then Aunts and Uncles but do I keep their children (cousins) and spouses - probably not as it starts to make i...

Re: All Relatives Diagram
Thanks for that, it does appear to be the only way! The minor problem with the line is that it does not seem to connect to the box, unless I have a setting wrong! So, if I move items around the line does not move - I will have to "remember" those and tweak at the end before printing Thanks ...

All Relatives Diagram
I wish to present some relatives with a print of part of our family tree as Christmas presents and am trying to format the picture appropriately, however I have a "spoiler" problem. My intention is to use the "All Rleatives Diagram" and maybe do a little pruning and then in a Photo processing applic...

Re: Long Term Niggle
It is a pity your monitors are not the other way round, with the taller one on the left, then the menubar & toolbar would still be visible with the main FH window spanning the two monitors. Hopefully as FH evolves, more windows will become free to float anywhere, but any updates that satisfy your w...

Re: Long Term Niggle
Yes, even using Window > Cascade so all the windows can be individually sized & positioned they are sill bounded by the main FH window. But can that main FH window be sized to span both monitors? It can, however due to the alignment of the monitors I use, it is not feasible. The left hand monitor i...

Long Term Niggle
I previously used V3 and am now on V5 - my laptop is XP based. I run both my PCs with multiple monitors - normally two and often like to have parts of my (non-FH) activities spread across the screens. The Niggle: When I open FH, I can maximise the window and quite correctly it maximises to fully cov...

Re: Multiple Spouses
OK, in that case the blood-line has no preference for 1st or 2nd wife, so it must be the Diagram Options that need adjusting. The Spouse layout options are probably set to default of 2nd spouse on other side . Try changing that to 2nd spouse on the right . That has sorted it ... the description how...

Re: Multiple Spouses
I used my Grandfather as the Diagram Root and ask for all descendants with one box per marriage. He has 4 children. The two instances happen on the same diagram at the same time. His first daughter, my Mother, is shown with my Father, her first husband, in the main box and my step-Father in the link...

Multiple Spouses
As often happens, through death or divorce, individuals marry more than once. FH allows the entry of multiple spouses without issue. However, I have a minor problem with te way they are then displayed when "One box per marriage" is selected and consistency of te display. For example: I have a small ...

The cloud! Just remember ... http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee142/smle_01/CaZtNrzVIAA8cyt.jpg And why bother to ZIP or compress a file with fast access and cheap storage available? You are adding another layer which could cause a problem ... it was useful when we had 56k dial up and CDs were exp...

Re: New computer with Windows 10
If I can add a couple of comments and agreement with what is already posted. Data storage is cheap! Buy a reasonably large 500GB or 1TB external USB drive and then copy all of your files across to a dated directory and do it on a regular basis. As well as your FH files, letters, photographs remember...
Re: Marriages
Well done. Its great when it all falls into place! Anne :D :D I now appear twice on my own family tree! The end ... and answers !
The whole jigsaw has now fallen into place ... I have found that both Caroline and Jane were sisters and both had illegitimate children - they were two of 11 siblings and unfortunately 6 died before they were 2yo. Focussing on the one Jane Saw, I believed I had located her parents ... who had 11 chi...
Re: Marriages
