Re: Limit lines shown for notes in diagram box

Thanks Mike, The only option that works is to use a condition and icon. Not ideal, as I already have icons for each census entry that I have found. If I've got the full set from 1841 to 1921 for an individual (and I do have a few born before 1841 who lived into their 80s), that's a lot of icons unde...

Re: Limit lines shown for notes in diagram box

Thanks for the reply Mike,
Yes, I did copy and paste, and I get an error. I have tried it with and without the space between 'Notes' and '='.

It doesn't like the '='. As a coder that seems odd as it looks like a reasonable format for a statement!

Re: Limit lines shown for notes in diagram box

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of the truncated field, with tatewise's ellipsis modification. However, I can't work out where to put it. If I put it in the Template box of 'Edit Text Scheme Item' I get 'The expression beginning at position 1 of the template is not a recognised Function' If ...

Limit lines shown for notes in diagram box

I've searched and not found anything relevant. In my diagrams I display the individual's notes field (Notes, Individual). The template is Notes %INDI.NOTE2[1+]% This is fine for most individuals with only a short note. However I have a few with rather long explanations as to how I reached decisions ...

Re: Where to record a blind person

I didn't enter it in the census grid; I didn't scroll to the edge of the image and missed the disability column. I do usually check that column, but just didn't this time. I suppose I could have asked the question slightly differently, as 'where does AS record disabilities?' As AS records under Phys...

Where to record a blind person

I have a person recorded as blind on a census. Where in FH can I record this?

I use Ancestral Sources to record census returns, but I missed this fact off when I originally entered it. I now want to add it in, but can't see anywhere logical to put it!

Re: Editing in the records window

That is a great idea, thanks Neil40. I've implemented it in my FH and it works great, except..... As it picks up a census entry attached to the individual record, it doesn't allow for the cases where I have looked for a census return and failed to find it, however coupled with my custom Flag it is p...

Re: Editing in the records window

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the confusion. I used the word flag in general terms (e.g. to flag something up), not as the specific item in FH. This is the view on the diagram:- https://peterwieland.org.uk/_images/Untitled.jpg I hadn't considered using a Flag; that actually makes more sense. I w...

Editing in the records window

I am currently working through my tree, finding as many missing census entries as I can. I have added a custom attribute to the individual record to indicate when an individual has all of their relevant census entries (or I have at least searched and given up!). This is a simple attribute that is ei...

Adding second image

I have recently installed v7.3.5 to get the template for the 1921 census. When a census entry went over two pages, there used to be a button on the Add/View images page to add another image. It doesn't seem to be there any more; To add a second image I have to close the window and re-open it. It isn...

All addresses in an area

I am going on holiday to Kent in the near future, and would like to visit as many places as I can that are linked to my ancestors. I have tried every which way I can to get a list of addresses in Kent with the individuals associated with those addresses. The custom 'Census Addresses 1841 to 1911' do...

Expand all diagram boxes

Maybe I'm missing something, but it used to be that when I opened a diagram (in particular 'All Relatives', but I think this applies to all diagrams) all levels were expanded. Recently when I open a diagram I only have a couple of generations up and down expanded, and no side branches expanded. This...

Re: Automatic Source Citations do not auto populate

To me this is a huge backward step. The way I have always worked when I receive a large amount of information from one source e.g. someone who has researched a branch of my tree and has passed the information on. 1. Set up a new source using the contact's name as a title. 2. Add any other informatio...

Automatic Source Citations do not auto populate

In V5 if you highlighted a source in the source list then selected Automatic Source Citation the Source Title field was auto populated with the highlighted record.

In V6 this doesn't seem to happen. Is there somewhere to set this behaviour?

Only a minor thing, but it is something I had come to rely.

Where to record infirmity

I have just found my first infirmity on the 1871 census, but can't find anywhere to record it, either direct in FH or through Ancestral Sources.

Adding person retrospectively

Thanks Nick,

Why didn't I think of something as simple as copy and paste!

It worked a treat. I got bogged down in much more complicated solutions and couldn't see the wood for the trees!

P.S. Thanks for Gecom Census and Ancestral Sources; it simplifies data entry so much!

Adding person retrospectively

I used Gedcom Census ages ago to enter an 1841 census for a family. Also in the household were two people who I didn't think were related, so although I entered them under 'Actual text' I didn't do anything about linking them, as they didn't appear in my tree. One of the problems of there not being ...

Surname Change

I thought this would have been covered in the past, but I only found one thread and the solution was to a FAQ on people with multiple names, but the link is broken. I have a family that appear on 3 censuses under one surname, then from 1881 to 1891 the surname changes. I know it is the right family ...

I have spent a good while searching, but this doesn't appear to have been addressed before, please correct me if I'm wrong. Subgroups in sources list

I have mine titled the same way as Brian, however I am currently working on entering a load of marriage certificates, and they are near the bottom of the list after all the census entries. I do use the 'Type' field, but when selecting a source record the dialog box only allows sorting in one directi...
