Re: How to find the oldest families
In any one family line, the oldest family is the one where neither husband nor wife has an ancestor (even if you don't know any of the dates). Does this help at all as a starting point?

Re: I'm struggling!
I know of one GEDCOM file (not my own!) which has over 210,000 Individual Records and over 69,000 Family records.

Re: How to not mark the deceased without dates as living
If TNG needs a Death Event (even with no other data) rather than the absence of a " Living " Flag, to avoid exclusion as if living then, as discussed above, such Death Event s can be added in FH . If the relevant Individuals can be identified (e.g. born before 19nn) than the process could be automat...

Re: How to not mark the deceased without dates as living
So your primary objective, which was to prevent individuals from being treated as "Living", is achieved by exporting a GEDCOM from FH which contains " 1 DEAT Y ", i.e. a Death Event with no other data, easily achieved and maintained in FH . What we don't know is what in a GEDCOM can be imported to T...

Re: How to not mark the deceased without dates as living
You said the following yesterday evening: … I made a small gedcom and in Notepad pasted in "I DEAT Y" into several peoples record, imported into TNG and it worked . I understood from that that a GEDCOM with " 1 DEAT Y " would be imported by TNG which would then show "Yes, date unknown". What else di...

Re: How to not mark the deceased without dates as living
I never suggested using Notepad to create "1 DEAT Y". Entering a date phrase such as "Y" (with the quotes) will result in the following in the GEDCOM 1 DEAT 2 DATE (Y) and I don't know what TNG would make of that. As suggested earlier you can create the desired " 1 DEAT Y" in the GEDCOM by creating ...

A single-page PDF (as Mike suggested) is much easier to view than a multi-page PDF.

Re: How to not mark the deceased without dates as living
I don't know the details of how TNG imports a GEDCOM file, but it must be able to handle the valid GEDCOM "1 DEAT Y" which is what you will get in FH's GEDCOM if you do as I suggested above. You certainly cannot input "Y" into a death date in FH.

You can get "1 DEAT Y" into the GEDCOM by adding Death using the All tab of the Property Box.

Thee is a Plugin called Clone Any Record (which I wrote over 5 years ago); it should be suitable for this purpose. Obviously take a backup first in case anything goes wrong.

Use Ctrl-click to select the two Individuals in the Records window and then use How Related… on the Tools menu. Then you can click on Display Graphically.

Re: Death certificate
Thus the Informant is NOT a Witness to the Birth/Death itself (unlike a Marriage Witness ). Of course I agree with the above, but there may need to be a distinction between the possibly dozens of people who witness the marriage ceremony itself, and the (usually) two Witnesses who sign the marriage ...

Re: Brand newbie - rename imported Gedcom
The Project Window… (via the File menu) has on option on the More Tasks… button to Rename Project…. This is important because, as well as the GEDCOM file itself, the associated folders (that contain media files, etc.) must have exactly corresponding names.

Re: How can I map individuals from a Named List?
You can select any number of Individuals from the Records Window or from a Query Result Set or from a Named List (of Individuals) and then click on Map Places for Selected Individuals. I don't think there is any way to map Family Records directly.

Re: Family Media Doesn't Show Up in Narrative Reports
Another possibility, which avoids the use of Witnesses, would be to use a Family Custom Attribute such as Co-residence from the Kinsfolk Fact Set. See fhugdownloads:contents:kinsfolk_facts_sources|> Fact Set ~ Kinsfolk Facts & Sources.
