Late husband/wife
Perhaps I should clarify. Is it the burial of (the late) Thomas, husband of Anne, or of Thomas, husband of (the late) Anne? It seems probable that it's the former, but in that case why not just use the more normal Thomas, husband of Anne?

Late husband/wife
I'm going through a parish register where, in some burials, the incumbent had a habit of putting e.g. Thomas Dagless late husband of Anne. I can't decide whether the 'late' refers (1) (superfluously) to the person being buried or (2) to their husband/wife. In the case above this is relevant as there...

What other software do you use for Family History?
I saw Deltadrive at Bracknell, too, and in a moment of madness invested in a copy. I can't honestly say that I have explored every facet, mainly because life is too short to learn to use this program properly! Unfortunately, like many 'research oriented' programs it tries to do much more than be a r...

Why would a BDM record be amended?
It looks as though the birth has been registered late. I have had one example of this when someone was born in 1914 but the birth was not registered until 1928. The 1914 entry was handwritten at the bottom of the page (presumably in 1928). The Free BMD explanation is as follows: 'Possible late entry...

The book that Nick refers to should list, nationally and county by county, what records survive (few do). However, I've just checked and it is out of stock at present.
Contemporary reports in local papers are probably your best bet.

A useful starting point for finding details of transportation might be: http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/ If you haven't used it before, it holds a wealth of data from Family History Societies that you can search on by name and then view on a voucher based PPV basis. One of their databases is the ...

Several months down the road I now find myself in the same position as Paul. I have received a .FTW file from a distant relative, who is struggling to produce a GEDCOM export from Family Tree Maker, and want to convert it to GEDCOM. I can't get Genviewer to do this. It seems as though it will only g...

keeping census information organized for dum
Although I'm usually very prone to subdividing directories down to the n-th degree I find that with censuses one directory suits me fine. I use one of Gedcom Census' standard naming conventions (tweaked slightly for US censuses) so that linked image files are re-named to the source name as 'UK Censu...

Forget that. You just amend the date manually in the census date column (and then manually override the title if necessary). Now why didn't I think of that before I asked such a b. silly question?

Is there any way of overriding the preselected dates in GEDCOM census? I want to input a number of entries from the Kansas US state censuses which were taken in 1885 and 1895 and can't work out how.

Close enough! I believe it to be Emma KEEN. I must confess that I do have other evidence. Research experiment - what is this name?
The name below appears in the 1851 census (HO107/piece 1904/folio 709/page 26). I know what it is - or to be more precise, I know what I WANT it to be. The person is entered as a grand-daughter of the female head of the household and, if it is who I think it is, this census would be the definitive e...

The conditions you are applying will add everyone born before 1838, whether in Surrey or not, and to that list add everyone born in Surrey after 1838. I think you need ADD IF born in Surrey followed by EXCLUDE UNLESS born after 1838.
