Multiple Birth Entries
Hello, I was wondering what other people do about multiple entries for year and place of birth. I'm thinking about Census entries from different years that show another place of birth and age for the listed person Do you record them all ? If so can you make FH4 use one of those entries as the one it...

Running V4 on a Netbook
Hi Jane
Thanks for your suggestions but I'm not using pictures or thumbnails - some of the family groups are very large and I usually go for 'all relatives'. I'm going to experiment with the options to see if I can restrict the view to a few generations around the person of interest

Running V4 on a Netbook
Has anyone run FH4 on a Netbook ? I have a Samsung N120 with 1Gig ram which 'freezes' if I try to look at Diagrams - the programme itself runs fine, I can look at all the lists, add new data, run queries but diagrams and charts are a problem. Wondered if this might be a memeory limitation. The opera...

I use Synctoy (an MS freebie) that allows you to synchronise drives and only copies new or changed files.

Ships Passengers
Malcolm I think you have just completed my journey for me! I was starting to use 'Ships Passenger' as a custom event but your approach is much easier to follow in the narrative. I also have a 'Border Crossing' so that's solved as well. I have a couple of dozen people that need this and I have been t...

Ships Passengers
I've been reading the Help File [mad] and discover that the Emigrated and Immigrated facts are the only ones that support a structure of 'from place1 to place2'. I can see how to add a custom fact but they do not have this structure. Is there any way to 'clone' the Emigrated fact as a custom fact t...

Ships Passengers
Hello Does anyone have any tips on recording people who travelled back and forth by ship many times between 2 countries. I started off by using a pair of Emigrated and Immigrated events for each journey but realised that isn't what was going on. Just one of those journeys was the actual emigration, ...

Lost my Custom Queries
Jane I had a few people suggest a 'Widows' problem with folder permissions. Tried unsuccessfully to change this so went the route of a re-install (having made copies of the queries first!). Pleased to say this worked and all the old queries worked when dropped back into the newly created folder. Tha...

Editing a Query
Brilliant ! I never thought of them as filters - I was *assuming* that once they had been selected that was it. I have now extended your suggestion so that 3 initial filters select 'Bir' 'Mar' and 'Dea' and the last filter is Exclude unless %SOUR.TEXT% is null. I then get a nice list of records wher...

Editing a Query
Dear All I'm trying to write a slightly more complicated query and I don't know how to edit the line. The 'selector boxes' do a very good job of writing a single condition but I don't know how to add a second condition to that same line. What I am trying to do is list all Sources that begin with Bi...

Format name for 'old style certificates'
Well I now know more about old paper sizes and their unusual names but cannot find anything close to the old certificate size. I have decided to use either 'A4' or 'Certificate' in the FH Type field of the source.
Thanks, Peter

Format name for 'old style certificates'
Does anyone know the proper name for the paper size and format used by the old style UK certificates ? I want to tag the certificate source information in FH4 with a location of my copies - A4 works for the newer certificates (in A4 pockets in a ring binder) but I don't know how to describe the olde...

Jane
Thanks for the pointer - I'm just getting into the programming capabilities of FH4 and seeing examples of code that do what I want is very helpful.

Query for Multiple Marriages
I'm trying to write a query to identify individuals with multiple marriages (i.e. 2 or more marriages). I have tried various filters based on %indi.nmr% but can only seem to get an empty list or a list of everybody. I'm sure it must be possible and would greatly appreciate any suggestions as to how ...

What can I say !
This seems to do exactly what I wanted in finding dubious dates. I am running V4 so that wasn't an issue for me.
Many Thanks for doing this and posting it so quickly.

FH shows (!) against ages which I presume are suspect. Is it possible to query FH to identify these suspect dates in a file ?

Merging 2 big files
I am trying to merge 2 large Gedom files so I have split one into more manageable chunks but some of these chunks still have a hundred or more records in them. Using FH4 merge requires concentration to check that the records do indeed match and I just can't seem to complete some of the chunks withou...

Hi again Jane I have managed to get the expression Add if =RelationPool() equals ['X'] into a row and when run this prompts me to enter a number for X - this then gives me the correct individuals belonging to the pool X. Splitting a Tree
Hello Jane
That looks very close but I was hoping to select an individual and then see all the members of their pool. The selected individual would not necessarily be the root.
I'll try and look at some other queries to see how they invoke the 'pick list' of individuals.
Thanks
Peter

Hi Jane I think I am seeing a way forward now with 'Export Gedcom' I'd like to export everyone in a pool to a seperate Gedcom. That looks as though it should be possible. Can you help me with the correct syntax for a custom query to select all individuals in the same pool as a selected indiviual ? M...
