Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)

My first reaction is that if you know there should only be one Family Historian Projects folder why are there several? Secondly, the OneDrive folder contents are different on the Laptop compared to the Desktop so OneDrive is not syncing! Therefore, several issues need to be resolved and I'm not sur...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)

I realise that costs may be a little different because you live in Dublin, but the cost of OneDrive in the UK is remarkably good value. Currently on Amazon, Microsoft 365 is £48 for a single user or £67 for a family of up to 6 for a year and this gives a massive 1TB (1000 Gig) per person of OneDrive...

Re: am I missing a setting? Attaching media to facts

Hi, I'm using AS for census entries based on method 1. Although I always link media to sources, I don't like to use the "include source media" checkbox in the media screen for individual facts. I prefer to link the images directly to the facts. When I enter a census record using AS, each person get...

Re: Edit a Census template column headings?

Is it not possible to edit the column headings when editing a census template? For the 1931 Canada census, I copied the 1921 template and pasted to a new one, thinking that it would be mostly the same and I could just edit the headings and add or delete a column where necessary. I found I couldn't ...

Re: Ancestral Sources v.7.7.7 Testing (June 2023)

I've released a new version to fix the two problems reported by John above. I've also added some keyboard shortcuts that have been requested by another user. I've updated the first post in this thread to refer to the new version. New Features in v7.7.7 (Beta Test) Tab pages, for all source types exc...

Re: Ancestral Sources v.7.7.6 Testing (May 2023)

Sorry Nick, Another hiccup introduced with 7.7.6 If census persons are entered using the new ""Tree" method, then the {KEYPERSON} keyword used in the census title does not work. Everything is as expected If the Keyperson is added using the old method (Everyone elsoe can then be added by the "Tree" ...

When you use the option to Add Citation and 'Cite Existing Source...', you can then right-click on sources and select 'Add to Bookmarks'. Clicking the red bookmark button at the top will then only show the bookmarked sources.

Re: Ancestral Sources v.7.7.6 Testing (May 2023)

Hi Nick, A bug seems to have crept in on latest version. (7.7.6) I have only tested Census 1939 Register so far, but each of the column headings has had "vbCrLf " appended to it Regards John Morrison Thanks for reporting that John, it will be fixed in the next version. It only appears if the 'Censu...

I've released a new version to fix the problem reported by Mike above. I've updated the first post in this thread to point to the new version. New Features in v7.7.6 (Beta Test) Fixed a silly error that had crept in to 7.7.5 and effectively made AS get Birth and Death records mixed up. Apologies for...

Re: Ancestral Sources v.7.7.5 Testing (May 2023)

Hello Nick Testing Deaths today after the update using auto text it adds a marriage date & a marriage place to the record. Also in births it asks for an informant name. Re: Ancestral Sources v.7.7.5 Testing (May 2023)

Looks good so far - I've imported my diacritics from FH successfully :) Dare I mention that the 1931 Canada census will be released this Thursday? Re: Addresses

On Scottish birth and death certificates, the address where the person was born or died initially is recorded on the 1st page and then recorded again on the 2nd page for their residence, as well as the mother and father in the case of a birth and in the majority of cases the address is the same. Is...

Re: Citing Sources: Method 1 and Method 2 - comparison table tweaks

This make some sense as well, although it does not use the AUTH, PUBL tags for citation completeness. It holds closer to my understanding of GEDCOM. Obviously, future GEDCOM needs more normalization, separating out both "Facts" and Citation Detail. I not sure if I propose that to "The Committee" I'...

Re: Citing Sources: Method 1 and Method 2 - comparison table tweaks

Adrian The two contrasting GEDCOMs are very useful to illustrate the difference (to those who are interested in the way the data is stored), but I think it might help if the second example also used the census fact rather than a residence and the same date. If I remember correctly Adrian you use a R...

Re: Citing Sources: Method 1 and Method 2 - comparison table tweaks

On a more radical note, I could be tempted to replace all references to Method 1 and Method 2 with 'Splitting' and 'Lumping' -- partly because I can never remember which is which :) and 'Splitting' and 'Lumping' are more obvious descriptors. (Not in the Ancestral Sources articles, of course, where ...

Re: How many sources have you created with Ancestral Sources?

I currently have 48,107 sources, and I would estimate that all bar 107ish were created using AS. I still have well over 15000 census sources that need converting to Rich text tables On top of that there are many 1000's of citations to redo from when I used method 2 style recording (With or without ...

How many sources have you created with Ancestral Sources?

Just for the fun of it - have you created a lot of sources with AS? I'd love to know how many sources you can estimate that AS has generated for you (include my previous Gedcom Census in the count if applicable). You can see how many sources you have in Family Historian by going to File->File Statis...

Re: {KEYPERSON}

Hi Peter I don't use KEYPERSON for this reason and that's why I've always used the 'Other Info' field to record who the key person is in the entry and I have that in the title template. But admittedly that wouldn't work as well for you as you have the custom ID in there too and I guess for the major...
