Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!

There have been a number of times with Find A Grave where I've found an entry for an ancestor and excitedly thought this must mean they have a grave in the church yard, only to later realise this is just someone uploading burial records from the parish register. Yes this means they were buried there...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6.10 (February 2023)

I've now released a new beta version and updated the first post in the thread to reflect this. New Features in v7.6.10 (Beta Test) Fixed some problems with the 'Add Images to Existing Source' feature of AS reported by John Elvin. The {SOURCETYPE} should now work when used in image title templates an...

Re: Look up missing BMD Plugin

The anomaly you quoted is fixable with a small change to your data. First, ensure that the 'GRO birth index' Source Citation has the Citation-specific entry Date set to the Quarter Date, which is Q3 1910 in this case. Then the actual Birth Date can be any value. Second, ensure that the 'GRO birth i...

Re: Diagram icons using expressions

Just as an update - Editing the existing source - I had to change the generic type on the All tab of the Source box. On the main page where it has Type, I could add Death Cert but it didn't change on the Source Records page and didn't add the icon to the diagram. I haven't found how to change AS ea...

Re: Add images to existing source - media title error

I am not sure if a Source record can be preselected, as it depends on the AS command line options. Perhaps Nick can clarify. No it can't. I did spend quite a while looking at John's request a few years ago as he's made that suggestion to me before, but it wasn't an easy change to make, related to t...

Re: Add images to existing source - media title error

To be completely honest the 'Add images to existing sources' is something I've not really given much thought to for many years and I'd got the impression it wasn't really being used. Family Historian got a lot better at handling images and so the need for this facility reduced. I'll have a look at t...

Re: source-driven data entry for 1921 census

If you have v7 of Family Historian, then Ancestral Sources will allow you to create rich-text source text (with tables, different coloured fonts, etc.). It also supports the new Templated sources in v7. You may find the videos in the AS Youtube channel helpful if you want to use these features: http...

Re: Image Titles - suggested enhancement

It should be possible to put a formula into the image title template to include the address if the year of the census is 1921. If you reply with what your current census image title template is and what you would want it to be if it was the 1921 census then I should be able to let you know the chang...

Re: Identifying several individuals from one source

Thanks, Mike. Light is slowly creeping over the horizon. I am still at the stage of not really seeing the difference between Source Driven and Event Driven Data Entry. Whereas I thought that one piece of media could act as the source for several events, that piece of media is actually the starting ...

Re: Family Reunions

If you happen to be an Ancestral Sources user, you could create a 'census' template for this kind of thing to record who attended a gathering. In the template you can specify a custom event to use rather than a census event.

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6.8 (January 2023)

This is now fixe...

Re: Wish list thoughts

I just wanted to comment on this: There's probably an argument for some kind of algorithm to calculate a score which takes into account how long something has been on the list so the ones that have only recently been added have a chance to compete with those that have been sat there for 15 years. I...

Re: Residence

By the way if this idea of having the narrative report automatically combining events such as residence is of interest there is a wish list item that you could vote for: Wish List 275: Combined events in narrative reports. It has been in the wish list for over 16 years so is surely overdue. :)

Re: Wish list thoughts

In the early days of Family Historian and FHUG, the wish list items were dominated by things that were major missing features. Things like ability to have same sex couples, witnesses, plugins, rich-text, etc. lots and lots of things that we take for granted now. Every user would be regularly coming ...

Re: Residence

As with all these things, it probably isn't quite as easy as it might first appear, such as the different ways people record places and addresses may make it difficult for these duplicate residences to be automatically combined in all cases, but I'm sure this could be dealt with via options that the...

Re: Add GRO Source plugin

Most plug-in stores have alternative plugins that carry out the same tasks. e.g. there are hundreds of calculator apps in the iphone and android plugin stores. As there are already apps in the store to deal with GRO sources there seems to be a reluctance to publish others. Is this a specific policy ...

Re: How do I use a fact of witness role teacher to link people and then diagram

I'm not sure how well this would work in practice (and whether diagrams could show it in the way you wish) but in FH, a parent (teacher) can have multiple children (students). And a child (student) can have multiple parents (teachers) so technically these teacher-student relationships could be model...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6.7 (January 2023)

Nick, the predited birth date calculation is a year out when 0 months is entered. Example: in the Sample Project select George Dowling , ID [60]. Create a 1921 census entry for him in AS, entering his age as 30y 0m. His birth date should be calculated as June 1891. In fact AS calculates it as June ...

If you were to use templated sources such as those in the essentials collection you can link a repository and also specify a collection (such as Ancestry.co.uk) and url. There is an Ancestral Sources video explaining how to use templated sources here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yxPQHlHgsg&list...

Yes, but the associated images may be from different places. For example, one may have a repository of the National Archives and an additional image may have a repository of a local archive. The intention is to define the locations where original images may be viewed. How would you link an image to...

By your argument, it would be a pain currently if you tweaked one of the template fields because your source title...
