Census age not copied to occupation attribute

No don't worry, half of the options in Gedcom Census have been added due to requests from just one or two people. I want Gedcom Census to suit as many people's requirements as possible and if the requests are not difficult to add I do like to implement them.

Census age not copied to occupation attribute

The autotext is only ever meant to be a guess and in my experience I have never found that it exactly matches the census record, I always have to edit it. The best guess it can make is to put the scholar in because it is most likely that they are recorded as scholars (more often than not in my exper...

Census age not copied to occupation attribute

Hi Shaun Not copying age to the occupation is a deliberate decision, though admittedly one which could be an option. Census age is very often inaccurate but is recorded with the census event obviously. The census records an occupation and so this requires an occupation attribute to do so but there i...

Gedcom Census Review

Thanks to Brian Horridge for pointing out that Gedcom Census was reviewed in the May edition of 'Your Family Tree' Magazine http://www.yourfamilytreemag.co.uk . Below is a scan of the review. Hopefully they won't mind me including it as I didn't mind them using a screenshot of Gedcom Census without ...

gedcom census like prog for BMDs

Hi

Yes I do plan to do something similar for BMDs. I'm hoping to get the next version of Gedcom Census out in the next month or so and then I'll start thinking about Gedcom BMD. Don't expect anything quickly though as I now have a young baby on top of the full-time job [confused].

Introducing Gedcom Census 4.0.7

Hi Simon. Gedcom Census is used to create census entries but not to edit them (except for attaching images to existing census sources). Assuming you are using Method 1 then the source text can be edited via the Sources tab in the main records window in Family Historian. Within the sources screen you...

Gedcom Census - bug?

Yes it sounds like a bug reported by Sue Green a couple of months ago which is fixed in the next version that I hope to release sometime in the next few weeks. It can happen when the 'head' of household has multiple family records. If you send me an email (nsw@eidosnet.co.uk) so I know your address ...

Gedcom census and Multimedia links

Actually I now find that there is more to it than I thought. In Family Historian, if you right click on a source and then link an image that way the Note/Link isn't created (which is the way Gedcom Census does things). If you start with an image and then link it to the source a Note/Link is created....

Gedcom census and Multimedia links

I've contacted Irene about this and I can now see that she is perfectly correct. Gedcom Census isn't recording the necessary Link/Note reference to allow the column reference OBJE.NOTE2[1] to work. It is easy to fix for the next version. Hopefully I'll be able to get this link added to any images re...

Gedcom census and Multimedia links

I'm sorry we've not sorted this for you yet but I'm a bit confused by what you are asking. When I replied earlier in the thread with the column reference for the source records you said: 'Sources pane is now OK, but in the Multimedia pane it still doesn't show all of the sources.' So I assumed from ...

No Gedcom Census doesn't do anything different. It links the image to the source in the same way as it would be linked if done manually in Family Historian. The only thing I can imagine is that perhaps your other images are linked to a person or to a citation, etc. However, as Jane says it would hel...

I'm not sure that it is possible to have a column to show the sources a multimedia object is linked to but someone else should be able to confirm or prove otherwise.

Source images per row in web page

Family Historian always seems to show 8 source images per row in websites it creates. This is fine until you decide to change the width of the images to make, for example, census or certificate images readable. If I set an image to 20cm wide the web page still shows 8 images per row so is over a met...

Hi Alan I contacted Olympic directly about this problem rather than putting the answer here. When this happens it is usually because you are not opening your family history file when Gedcom Census runs. The way to resolve this is: 1) In Family Historian with your family history file open go the File...

Using the McAfee website=based virus scanner I can confirm that it is wrongly reporting an earlier version of Gedcom Census (4.0.7 and only this version I think) as having a virus 'Startpage-fq'. This virus has been known about since March last year but an update for the virus signature was released...

It seems that this has happened to other people before. Apparently one software developer sued them for £50,000 a year or so ago because it wrongly reported a virus in his software. Now there's an idea :) It would be useful to know which version of the GedcomCensus.exe is getting the false positives.

No offence caused, I understand completely your concern, it was just the forum title I felt could be misleading. Sorry for the jargon: False positive refers to the anti-virus software wrongly thinking a file has a virus in it. Anti-virus has to look at a file and in a small fraction of a second comp...

I wonder if the title of this forum post should be changed. I would hate people to read it as though it is a headline reporting a fact and be put off using Gedcom Census.

[Edit:Title was later changed so thanks for that]

Well there certainly isn't any kind of virus or trojan in the Gedcom Census that you originally downloaded if it was from this site (which is the only place it should be available). If there is one in it now then it has somehow become infected since it has been on your PC. Check the modify date on G...

I did some searching around and it does seem as though the standard way to provide the reference is with a /. When image files are renamed the / is automatically replaced with an _ as you quite rightly say the / would cause a problem. Perhaps I can add an option to be able to choose either a / or an...
