Same person , but two census entries!

This is surprisingly not all that unusual. Whenever this gets mentioned on forums or mailing lists various people usually reply that they have similar examples. I suspect what happened is that your ancestor lived with her parents and so her parents naturally listed her as being someone who lived wit...

Gedcom census and Multimedia links

I do mention in the help file for the Options screen that using images with recording method 2 isn't ideal. The images are there but are rather hidden away. As Jane says they can be shown in reports or using the All tab in properties.

Does FH ever change GEDCOM index numbers?

I think they only change if you use the 'Work with record identifiers' dialogue. There may be other ways but even so I am certain that they will never change unless you do something to force this to happen.

';Found no people in the selected file';

Hi Yes sorry this has been reported a few times now. I have got a fix for it which will require me to release a new version which I will probably do soon. For now the registry fix is the only one. If anyone else has this problem and (understandably) doesn't want to mess with the registry contact me ...

I've noticed the 'make a donation' button on the main page. Considering all the wonderful work Jane does for the Family Historian community, completely voluntarily (she is not employed by Calico Pie) and the number of people she helps every week, hopefully lots of people will help to support the sit...

Missing GIF?

Assuming you use Irfanview to change all your .gif files to exactly the same name but with a jpg extension and that you have all these files in the same folders on your computer then firstly make sure you have a backup of your family history GEDCOM file. Then open it up in Windows notepad (you can d...

Gedcom Census

In Gedcom Census you select people from the 'All Individuals' list, the 'Immediate Family' list or via the 'Find Individual' screen. These people need to have already been created in Family Historian. The convention in family history is that individual records for women are always created with their...

Gedcom Census

No offence taken, I was just trying to make light of praise that I'm not sure GC can live up to! Every source has an ID when it is created and so the next source you create will have ID 2, then ID 3, etc. Just right-click on the source and click on properties to see what is recorded within it. Selec...

Gedcom Census

I wouldn't describe Gedcom Census as 'the best thing since sliced bread', it just helps you to type in census returns that's all [smile] Presumably in Gedcom Census you selected a few people from the list, typing in their ages and occupations, etc. So in Family Historian if you look at the propertie...

I'm updating some of the old Gedcom Census related threads now that version 5.1 has been released.

This particular error was fixed and should not occur in the new version.

Gedcom census and Multimedia links

I'm updating some of the old Gedcom Census related threads now that version 5.1 has been released.

Just for information the new Gedcom Census 5.1 now has an option (on by default) to record the note/link information when linking a source to a new image.

Census age not copied to occupation attribute

I'm updating some of the old Gedcom Census related threads now that version 5.1 has been released. The new Gedcom Census 5.1 has options so that you can decide whether or not the age of an individual and the census places are recorded within the occupation attribute created for census records. There...

Nick Walker's Gedcom Census

I'm updating some of the old Gedcom Census related threads now that version 5.1 has been released.

Just for information the new Gedcom Census 5.1 allows PDF files to be previewed when attached using Gedcom Census. However, I still recommend that jpg iamges are used instead.

Gedcom Census 5.1

This is the latest version of the free utility designed to be used with Family Historian, but not officially associated with or endorsed by Calico Pie Software. Gedcom Census was described in a review in the May edition of Your Family Tree magazine ( http://www.yourfamilytreemag.co.uk ) as 'a useful...

The image link is pointing to: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/hoadly/_toc_graham%20hoadly%20-%20immediate%20ancestors.jpg the %20 will represent spaces so I guess the image it is trying to show is: _toc_graham hoadly - immediate ancestors.jpg It looks like the web server is case sensitive (prob...

I need and old version of GEDCOM Census

Not sure what would cause that error, its been too long since I've used Windows 95 (8 years now). I do have a copy of each version of Gedcom Census. The error message you are getting suggests it is a problem with the drop-down menus. These were introduced in version 4 so I could send you a copy of v...

I think that the 10 people here plus a few others who I will contact will be enough Beta testers for the time being. Thanks very much to everyone who has offered to help and for those who would have offered but haven't had a chance to reply yet.

Cheers

I've not had any reports of Gedcom Census not working with Windows 95 but then I don't know if anyone else uses Windows 95 anymore! I wonder why it doesn't, I've been told it works OK on Windows 98. Can you let me know which version you used that did work with Windows 95 so I can have a think about ...

I am hoping to complete the new version of Gedcom Census in the next few days and will then need some people to test it for me. The Camera/Snapshot icon is certainly there in version 7. Perhaps you have an older version of Acrobat Reader. You can download the latest version here:

Image files are not really one of my areas of expertise so hopefully someone else may be able to help. However, I'll do my best... Hi Pam Gedcom Census will allow PDF files to be attached, just like Family Historian but really PDF isn't the best format for images, jpg is much better. If you link a PDF image to a source in Family Historian, the image won't be displayed unless you click on it, in which case it will appear in acro...
