Gedcom Census
I suspect you've added the entries to a copy of your file rather than the one you are looking at in Family Historian. You can check the path to the file you are using in Family Historian by looking under the File menu at File Statistics and noting the file path. Now have a look at your Gedcom Census...

Enhancement to Add Birth Event in 1841 Census.
Yes I thought of that, but of course if there were a number of people in the entry, some of whom were recorded with exact ages then those with ages divisible by 5 could be considered to be exact ages too!

Enhancement to Add Birth Event in 1841 Census.
I'll add it to the 'to do list'. I think it would need to be an option for each birth though as I find a surprising number of 1841 census entries have a non-rounded age for those over 15 too.

Military personnel in Census records
No they shouldn't have been listed in the UK Census if they were abroad at the time.
If you can find the service records of your grandfather there is a good chance that you will be able to see where he was every quarter of each year that he was in service and lots more besides.

Suggestion for improvement - batching census
Unfortunately it would require a major rewrite of large parts of Gedcom Census to incorporate the batch idea. Gedcom Census doesn't load in the whole Gedcom File into a data-structure then make changes to that, instead it just finds the relevant parts of the file and edits them. Therefore, it isn't ...

Problem when trying to save
Please check under the Gedcom Census Options the Folder where backups are set to be saved. If there are any permissions issues with this folder, or disk space is running out then this could cause the problem. Try creating a folder in your My Documents (e.g. 'GC Backups') and select this folder as yo...

RECORDING CENSUS RECORDS
Hi Wini To add to Jane's reply, when you enter the census details only select the people that are there. There might also be people in the household, e.g. servants or visitors, who don't appear in your tree so you can use the Source Text box to record them. Do make sure you read through the help pag...

Gedcom Census 5.4 installation error
Just to clarify for anyone else reading this who might be concerned, the issue reported by wini isn't an error with Gedcom Census, it is just a problem that wini is having downloading the file. The original issue reported by 'gladtobegrey' wasn't an error either, it was just a warning that Gedcom Ce...

Another possibility is that you have opened a different file in Gedcom Census than the one you are using in Family Historian. In Family Historian select 'File Statistics' from the File menu. Make a note of the File Name. Now back in Gedcom Census click on the File menu and 'Open another GEDCOM famil...

No I don't think it will be a problem, Gedcom Census installs the latest version of that file. I also don't think it would be a problem if you clicked ignore.

Gedcom Census 5.4 Now Available
This is the latest version of the free utility designed to be used with Family Historian, but not officially endorsed by Calico Pie Software. Gedcom Census was described in a review in the May 2006 edition of Your Family Tree magazine (http://www.yourfamilytreemag.co.uk) as 'a useful add on that eve...

List of changes: In Windows Vista, Gedcom Census didn't always spot when the GEDCOM file has been saved in Family Historian and so didn't reload the file. This has now been fixed. The help file has been updated to work with HTML Help so that it can be used in Windows Vista. On the census flag form, ...

Ssshhh, don't tell anyone but a new version of Gedcom Census (5.4) has sneaked its way onto the Downloads->GEDCOM section of this website. Perhaps you'll give it a go and make sure it works OK before I publicise it more widely?

trouble linking images with Gedcom Census
It is hard to judge exactly the resources that Gedcom Census requires as it will depend on size of your GEDCOM file, etc. but image files can be big and if you have several programs open at the same time with large images displayed and you have an elderly machine with very little memory then you may...

As briardsnz says the trick is to remember to save in Family Historian before switchng to Gedcom Census. If you ever forget then there is a way to hopefully avoid any data loss ... Hi Richard Its the bit about the choosing individuals that I don't understand. Under Tools->Options->Recording Method 1 you can change the format of the Title to, for example, not include the Year or to use the Date instead. I'm not aware that the title gets changed when you select people from the 'All Individuals' list and haven't been able to reproduce this? The way I use Ge...
