FH not accepting saved data from GedCom Census
All I can think of (its late and I'm tired) is either that: 1) you didn't save your changes in Family Historian before swapping over to Gedcom Census and there was some kind of issue with Family Historian autosaving. or 2) You opened a different file in Family Historian than the one you edited in Ge...

You would need to add the domain that the download comes from so this might be 'content.ancestry.co.uk' rather than http://www.ancestry.co.uk. Ancestry seems to not be available at the moment so I can't check.

You can add non-https sites to the zone simply by unticking the 'reserve server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone' option at the bottom of the screen where you add the sites.
Hope this helps

Ah OK, I'd forgotten about IE7's protected mode and I just assumed you meant User Access Control - oops. As you have protected mode on it won't let web applications have access to anything directly so creates virtual folders instead. I think what you could do to make life easier is add websites like...

Windows Vista is trying to make sure that the folders within 'Program Files' are kept clean and only contain the files that are installed with the program. Any files edited or created by the programs are now meant to be kept separately from Program Files. This is a good thing as it helps to force a ...

Gedcom Census Ref Code
So this implies the reference doesn't actually contain the year of the census? So probably not really possible for GC to auto-reference census of Scotland? The source itself will almost certainly contain the year of the census as part of its name anyway so not sure that having the reference state th...

Gedcom Census Ref Code
In occasional spare minutes (which seem to be few and far between nowadays) I'm making a few changes to Gedcom Census with the aim to release a new version fairly soon. Possibly around new year but no promises. I'll make sure the 1911 census is added to the list. Not sure about the Scotland issue. I...

Automatic Repository in new source
I prefer to have one source for the IGI rather than a number of different IGI sources for each of the different libraries I happen to have looked it up in. I can't see a big advantage in doing this. I'd hate someone to feel they have to go to, for example, Preston Library to view information that th...

This has been discussed on this site in the past and I think it was felt that this wasn't allowed in the GEDCOM standard: I haven't looked into this myself but assume this to be the case or Calico Pie would have allowed it. I do agree though that it ought to now be made possible and I'm sure could b...

Yes I agree with your post totally Chris, it would be useful if there were more options for how to enter the data and more options for how to display it.

Shorthand way to key DATE (app)
JonAxtell said: I still can't work out why '(app)' is used when the Gedcom method is 'abt'. I suspect this is because it is more readable to see the date with the (app) after it particularly if looking down a list of dates the abt/cal/est don't get in the way e.g. in the events tab: Born Oct 1841 D...

Yes I agree with Irene that the IGI (and Free BMD if just using the index) is a source rather than a repository. Its actually not obvious, to me at least, what the repository is for the IGI as it is available on the web and in libraries, record offices, etc. so I leave that blank. I only use reposit...

I think coroner's reports would be most likely to be in the County Record Office or at the National Archives although I believe many have been destroyed over the years. There is a book 'Coroners' Records in England and Wales'. I have no idea how useful it would be but it is on Genfair for £1.00

Small Hiccup with Gedcom Census
I think really that Family Historian autosaving, but after about 10+ minutes instead of 2, is the only explanation for what happened. Even if you made a very small change in Family Historian (e.g. removed a comma in a note), it could trigger an auto save. It doesn't save unless a change has been mad...

I just can't see how what you describes can have happened. Very strange. I wonder whether you would mind emailing the log (or at least the part for today) to me via nick AT Gedcomcensus.com?
I'll then go through the program code with a fine tooth comb to see if I can spot a problem.
Cheers

Small Hiccup with Gedcom Census
I've not come across any reason why Gedcom Census would ever log that it has written to a file and not actually done so. Whenever this has been reported in the past it has transpired that GC has been writing to a different file to the one opened in Family Historian. Is it possible that has happened?...

Hopefully you will at least be finding that both Family Historian and Gedcom Census will allow the PDF to be linked and will also allow you to click on the image so that it opens in Acrobat Reader. Unfortunately as you've found, FH won't allow the PDF to be viewed as it would a normal image file, wi...

I agree with Jon (unusually! [smile]) regarding sorting using Alt being a bit 'non standard' and I'd also like to see that being changed to the method John described in his second paragraph.

Yes you can associate flags with census dates and countries. Gedcom Census will then automatically create the relevant flag when you create a census record. If you're going to be using GC for your census recording then I would suggest deleting the other custom census events, if you haven't already, ...

Gedcom Census doesn't support this kind of use of custom events for census records. It just uses the standard census event. Now what you seem to have done is renamed the standard census event to be 'Census of 1841'. The clue is that the third 'Fact Set' column in your last screenshot says 'Standard'...

If you fill in the address field it appears in the address field for the census event in Family Historian. However, the address doesn't appear in the address field for the occupation attribute . My reasoning for this is that an occupation address should be where the person worked. Just because they ...
