The HHCTRL.ocx is not installed with Gedcom Census as it is a standard part of Windows as Jane suggests. I'm not sure why it would be missing in your case and I've not had anyone ever report this before so I think this must be a glitch on your computer. You haven't said what version of Windows you h...

As Jan says this is the 'cancel' window. Some people have huge files on often slow computers that take 30 secs+ to load in and they get the option to cancel the loading of the file. In theory it should only appear after 3 seconds if the file has not finished loading. I've just noticed that actually ...

Yes I believe the site has only just been launched. It allowed me to find an Irish marriage I'd been hoping to find for 15 years.

I've emailed you Bill. I've also taken the liberty of blanking out your email address in your previous post as it isn't a good idea to put your email address on a forum as the spam email senders have programs that search for email addresses across websites.

You could look for their marriage if it was in Louth here:
http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com
It might be best to try to confirm the maiden name of his wife Mary first by obtaining the birth certificate of one of their children if you haven't already.

I've found your 1861 Hugh O'Connor (64) with with wife Mary (40) and children Margaret (15), John (11), William (4), Thomas (2). The reference that Jane found definitely seems to refer to the same family as Hugh Conner (34 at first glance but it could be 54), Mary (27), Margaret (4) and John (10 mon...

Spelling of names is largely irrelevant before the latter part of the 1800s. Most people couldn't write so had no idea how their name was spelt. They just told the person filling in the form or carrying out the baptism/marriage/burial their name and it was up to the person to interpret what they hea...

Hmm I've just re-read your question and realised that the answer is probably much simpler. Gedcom Census only uses the standard 'Census' event and will not work with any custom events you've created. There is no need to create special custom census events such as '1841 census', etc. and unless you h...

I think for this to have happened you must at some point have allocated some flags to dates in Gedcom Census using the Tools->Census Flags form? You must also have run a flag check and ticked the 'Always run a flag check...each time Gedcom Census loads' option. With the Census Flags screen you creat...

details on census returns
Getting back to original point that was made. Does anyone think Gedcom Census should have the option to record additional birth events? I've always steered clear of this as it is likely to cause confusion for others who see my data if individuals have more than 1 birth recorded but it could be done....

The error is caused by the fact that the folder that was previously set as the backup folder doesn't exist. This will be fixed in the next version. For now the work around is make sure the original backup folder exists by creating it and then Gedcom Census will allow the change of folder. Hilary has...

ChrisBowyer said: But more seriously, I try to avoid transcribing anything I don't have to. Every transcription introduces errors. If you ever need to refer back to a census (for example) to see what it really said, you'll want the original not your transcription. And isn't it a shame that all we h...

Ok it clearly shouldn't be showing the error message so apologies for that. I'm not sure what has gone wrong here. I'll contact you via email.

If you do have Family Historian open at the same time as Gedcom Census then make sure you click the save button in Family Historian before entering data into Gedcom Census.

So in Gedcom Census you are selecting some individuals, entering ages and occupations, and all the other details then saving. Then when you look at the file in family Historian and look at the properties for an individual who was selected, under the events tab you will see a census event, an occupat...

The family history file you use in Family Historian should be the same file that you open in Gedcom Census. Then when you save the details in Gedcom Census they will be available in Family Historian.

Gedcom Census 6.0.6: Known Issues
Known issues with Gedcom Census 6.0.6 Updated 26th March 2008 1) Gedcom Census 6.0.6 will crash with 'overflow' error when saving if multimedia record IDs are bigger than ~32,000. See this thread for how to resolve the issue. Will be fixed in next version of Gedcom Census. 2) If an image title has a...

Gedcom Census 6.0.6 Save problem
Just to follow this up, David kindly sent me a copy of his file. The problem occurred because he had very large record identifiers for his multimedia records. This is easily fixed in Gedcom Census but until the next release, I would suggest anyone having the same problem should do the following: 1) ...

TEXT tag subordinate to DATA
I use TCGR for reporting, which does not pick up the Text. I had the following reply from TCGR support: Unfortunately, this appears to be an error in Family Historian. The GEDCOM 5.5 standard does not provided for a TEXT tag to be subordinate to a DATA tag. Well it looks to me like the GEDCOM st...

Basically you enter the record into the source text box. Once you've selected everyone use the Auto Text button as a starting point and then edit the results. The selections of people, ages and occupations at the bottom the screen are purely so that the census events, occupations and births can be l...

If you don't want to have him in your file as an individual just record his details within the source text as part of the transcript assuming you usually record the census details in there. Yes Chris you're right and it could be added as a note but assuming you use the source text to put in a transcription of the census entry the age as 3 weeks would be recorded in there.

Actually I've just realised I may have misunderstood you. If you choose the wrong person and haven't saved the entry yet in Gedcom Census, just click on the little X button at the end of the row the person is on at the bottom of the main screen.

Then make the necessary changes in Family Historian. Gedcom Census doesn't do anything that can't be done manually in Family Historian. If you've added the wrong person copy and paste the census event (and if applicable occupation event) from the person to the one you should have chosen and then del...
