Log FIle problem
Hi Richard My first thought is that it looks like an error in the program that doesn't have a specific 'error handler' is being caught by the error handler that deals with the log file path being wrong and so it may be nothing to do with the log file at all. I'll contact you via email assuming you'r...

International character sets available?
There are various letter o with accents over between 0240 and 0246 so try them out to see if the one you want is there. Also if you have a look at the Character Map as Gerry suggested you should be able to see the options for yourself.

Gedcom Census Crashing
For information I've now sent a version of Gedcom Census to Steve with a fix for the problem. Steve has reported that his issue is now resolved. This fix will appear in the next version of Gedcom Census when I finally get around to releasing it! In the meantime if anyone else experiences this proble...

Yes that probably does explain it. Send me an email (Nick AT GedcomCensus DOT Com) and I'll send you a fixed version.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. This sounds very similar to an issue raised by 'Mezentia' a few months ago which was easily fixed but I've not released a new version yet. Can you look at the Record IDs for your multimedia records and see if any have an ID over 32,000? If so then until the nex...

Thanks David and sorry for the confusion. I'll look at how the installer deals with this in the next version, it shouldn't be trying to install this file in Vista.

Do you get the option to ignore the error and carry on? If so do that.

Slow save of netries over network
Hi Robin I can't see anything obvious that would cause this other than the method GC uses to save isn't particularly efficient. I would love to rewrite large parts of GC if I only had the time. It would be interesting to exclude the folder from being virus scanned (on both machines) to see if it mak...

married at 15?
'Before Hardwicke's Marriage Act of 1753 there was no lower legal age of marriage, except during the 1650s when it was 16 for 'men' and 14 for 'women'. In 1753 it was fixed at 14 for men and 12 for women and remained at those ages until the Age of Marriage Act in 1929 which raised it to 16 for both....

Well yes it could be made a tiny little bit larger if it continued to be fixed size but if instead the dialog was made resizable users could make the choice for ourselves. I'd like to resize it to roughly twice its current size and hopefully this would make it possible to see more children, wider te...

Jane isn't referring to the 'spreadsheet' (Records Window) either. The property dialog she refers to is the screen you are talking about. Your suggestion is covered by the wishlist item she mentions as it would allow the dialog to be resized and therefore the text boxes within to be resized too. At ...

No entries received in FH events file
Whenever this has been reported it in the past it has been down to the reason Jane suggested. i.e. the file being opened in Gedcom Census is not the same file being viewed in Family Historian. Try the following: 1) Run Family Historian and open your Family History file (the one you want to use with ...

Also Genesreunited. Finding a match with someone else on the FHUG site would be a very very unlikely so best to use one of the sites that specialise in this.

Purdy appears a few times in records (a first name later made famous by Joanna Lumley in 'The New Avengers') as does Perdita. So I would still go along with dogsbody's suggestion of it being Pirdie a shortened version of Perdita (perhaps the person writing the record couldn't spell it). Is it possib...

UK 1841 Census Auto-text
The title of the column on the 1841 census is 'Where Born' which is why I used that title: have a look at an 1841 census image if you don't believe me. Admittedly this column is then split into two 'sub-columns' but really I didn't feel it would look quite right to have a very long column heading of...

Multiple, Linked GEDs
As Chris said it is far easier to keep the data normalised if all the data is in one file. Having said that most database management systems do allow different databases to be linked. I suppose one reason you might split into different files would be if you had multiple users on a network with diffe...

Does the folder referred to in the backup path exist? When you first run Gedcom Census 6 it will create a folder to save the backups in. I don't have access to Gedcom Census at the moment but off the top of my head it is something like 'Gedcom Census Backups and Logs' and should be in your Documents...

Look under Tools->Options and look at the backup folder path. By default in the current version of Gedcom Census it creates a folder in your documents to store the backup in. If you've set the backup folder to be elsewhere then make sure you've got permissions to write to the folder (but I'd recomme...

I emailed Jane last night about this. I believe the site may have been 'hacked'. My PC is reporting multiple viruses being blocked when I visit the site. You could try copying the file from another computer with XP on it, copying it in to the C:windowssystem32 and then registering it using the second of the commands I suggested.
