duplicate census entries
Not something I've come across before, an interesting find! I see there are lots of duplicated families in that enumeration district. I think that it can't be anything other than a mistake by the enumerators and presumably means that the statistics for the number of people living in the town were wr...

Text for Source
The most frustrating thing for me about using FH is the lack of any way of really formatting source text or note fields. Bold, italics, etc. aren't available and there isn't really a satisfactory way of showing tables of data. There is a wish list item (currently 12th highest scoring but needs more ...

Support for OpenOffice formats
I think all Jon is saying is that a user selecting 'Insert Document' would probably expect it to show a Word Document (or an Open Office document) by default but it only shows an old-style .doc (as well as .txt, .wri (!) and .rtf). I guess this would take less than a minute for Calico to add to the ...

Editing existing census entries in GC
Editing census entries is relatively straight forward in FH and relatively complicated to program in GC which is why I've not done it... However, attaching images is possible so hopefully that will keep you happy! Use the 'Attach Images to Existing Sources' option in the Tools menu. Best wishes Nick

Tracing Family tree without certificates
One issue that people often forget with regards to the LDS/IGI (Familysearch) parish records is that it doesn't show occupation and this can often be a good clue. If you are looking for a baptism of a boy who in later life is a joiner and you find two possible baptisms, one the son of a joiner and t...

Hi Miffy The idea is that you can have the same file open in Family Historian and Gedcom Census at the same time. You might add a couple of people to Family Historian then save the file. Gedcom Census will then spot the file has been saved and will reload the data. You might perhaps then create a ce...

Jan: the Ancestry census search pages lets you enter the piece number to search on (as well as page or folio numbers if need be), so no need to use the Steve Morse page for this.

There are a huge number of errors in the BMD indexes as books by Michael Whitfield Foster show: see my comments in the following forum thread for details: Re: Question re Ancestry FreeBMD Marriage Index . You should be able to get the death certificate from the local register office. This link might...

Further to Gerry's answer. Using the search facility in Ancestry, leaving everything blank except the Piece and Folio it appears that Folio 66 is the last Folio in Piece number 2223, any number I put in greater than 66 returns a blank. So it does appear that the rest of this is missing from Ancestry...

Yes KSS is correct, if you search on the 1901censusonline site and put in Blewett into surname, Kenwyn into place and then search for Male and Female in turn you get: John T Blewett 34 Cornwall Kenwyn Cornwall Kenwyn Tin Miner John P Blewett 8 Cornwall Kenwyn Cornwall Kenwyn Juvenile Joseph Garfield...

Auto-citation when editing fields, not just adding
What you refer to as source citations are sources in Family Historian. The links to the source are the citations. You can change a source and the citations don't need to change which seems identical behaviour to how you describe it in FTM.

Steve: Do you mean that you've added an 11th person and not had the down arrow button appear? Its not a problem I've ever seen or had reported before but then it is quite rare that I add more than 10 people to one entry.

They are not normal scroll bar buttons for reasons I won't bore you with. Once you've chosen the 11th person a button with an up-arrow appears above the delete buttons (the ones with X on them). If you were to click this button to scroll up you would then see a down-arrow button. Just to clarify, wh...

I'm not sure what you mean? You add the 16 people as usual into the boxes at the bottom of the screen: as you get down to the last row scroll buttons will appear: Gedcom Census will allow you to enter as many people as you like in one census entry. You can then use the Auto text button in the same w...

I would create a source and transcribe key bits (or all of it) and put this in the source text and perhaps put other comments in the source note. I would link this source to multimedia records each of which would be a scan of each page of the letter/cutting etc. As Jane suggests, I would then create...

Hi Rob
Sorry about this. It looks like the same problem reported by Hilary in this forum thread. I've not had a chance to release the new version that (hopefully!) fixes the problem but I'll get in touch with you via email.

A copy of a birth certificate can also be ordered from the local register office (not record office) itself. I believe the Witney registration district has now been merged into Oxford. There are details as to how you do that here: Oxfordshire County Council - Family History and you can order certifi...

Stevebye said: Today I was entering all the census info for the Cork's but when trying to load the image it was opening in the Adam, Ball or any folder the program seemed to feel like. If, for example, the last UK 1871 census entry had an image in the Ball folder then it would open within that fold...

Hi Steve I made an assumption that most people organise their multimedia by having all their census images in one folder, their certificates in another, etc. and that generally within the census folder there are probably sub-folders for each census country and/or year. Gedcom Census remembers the im...

I have worked with Richard to investigate the problem and it turns out that an uncommon set of circumstances can lead to the error reported which was as I suspected completely unrelated to the log file. This will be fixed for the next version. Richard now has an unreleased version with the problem f...
