Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

That's great - when I get a chance I'll add this to the guidance in the knowledge base (assuming you're OK with me doing that?).

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

Could it be this Norton 'Data Protector' feature?

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/hom ... v130571264

Try the 'Add or remove a process from Data Protector exclusion' section on the page.

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

Hi Nick I haven't got a Ransomeware problem. Mine is Norton 360. I wondered whether it would be sensible to uninstall AS completely and then reinstall an earlier version? And, yes, I tried to run as adminstrator. Thanks Janine And windows doesn't have built in Ransomware either - I was tired when I...

Re: Autotext in Baptism

Just come across a small problem when editing a table for baptisms. When attempting to modify the table, delete column no longer works, only a cell is deleted. This has only happened since version 7.7.2. Thanks for letting me know Mike. The fix for rich-text tables in v7.7.2 had a side-effect of cr...

Re: Add Images Forgetting previous folders

I did notice all the entries in the file are duplicate, one with and one without the Computer="" attribute. These are the last paths used by AS regardless of computer. If AS opens the project on a different/new computer that is not referenced in the file then AS will first of all try the path refer...

Re: Check for Updates not offering 7.7.2

That's right. I'd already pushed out two updates in quick succession and didn't want to annoy users by pushing out another the next day. I do have a few more changes to release in another update so I'll probably wait for that and a chance for any feedback on it before I announce the update in Ancest...

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

And have you checked that this isn't due to the Windows built in Ransomware [Protection] as I suggested in my first reply in the thread - 3rd section on this page: https://fhug.org.uk/kb/kb-article/solving-windows-defender-and-edge-browser-blocking-ancestral-sources/ . I'm unsure what else to sugges...

Re: Add Images Forgetting previous folders

Information about individual folders for entries is stored on a per project and per computer basis. It saves it to a settings file in the project itself. I can't check the location of this right now as I'm at work but it has ancestral sources as part of the title and it is an xml file. So if that fi...

Re: Wish List - Minister (or Registrar)

Yeah, as indicated in my post, I knew it could be done via the associated people input as well as the explicit input. I think I'd got blinkered by the MINISTER keyword and it being used in the templates. It would be a case of abandoning the use of the Minister field and just using associated people...

Re: Wish List - Minister (or Registrar)

Hi Chris Sorry I did spot this when you posted it but forgot to reply.... I think AS already does what you've asked for here although it's possible that Autotext templates may need to be edited to do exactly what you want. If, for example, you choose the baptism source and choose the 'Parish Registe...

Re: AS 7.7.2 Bookmarked

Unfortunately not, but I agree it would make sense if it did. In the next update to Ancestral Sources (whenever that may be), it will remember whether the 'Bookmarked' check box was ticked or not and retain the same status when it next loads.

Best wishes

Re: Adding Census Transcription After Entry

Am I right in thinking that there is no way of going back to AS and adding an auto text transcription (plain text or rich text) of a census that had no transcription added at the time of entry? If that is the case, does anyone have any suggestions about how to go about adding a transcription withou...

Re: Ancestral Sources 7.7 Released

I've released a couple of minor updates to 7.7 this week so that the current version is now 7.7.2 7.7.1 minor update: Annoying error (caused by a missing bracket) that meant that typing v into the auto-text caused AS to paste text instead was reported by Alan Medows and is now fixed. Re: Addresses

I agree. I use the term Housewife for the occupation in the grid/fact to aid readability in reports, and edit the transcript in AS to accurately reflect what was entered on the census form. As this appears to come down to user choice, I personally wouldn't want the exact census phrases pre-populate...

Re: Does one use multiple sources for same event?

Helen, I think we are talking at cross purposes. Of course I transcribe the images and add the relevant details into FH. What I no longer do is add another source that references another transcription from anywhere else! i.e. if I get a burial image, I delete the source that tells me I also found t...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms

If I click on a fact (e.g. birth) and then on the little image button below it shows me the images attached to the sources for that fact in the Media Viewer (I have the Include Source Record Media check box ticked). See the FH 7 help: https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help/fh7/hh_goto.htm?hh_start....

Re: Does one use muktiple sources for same event?

Using part of the text I replied to another post earlier in the week: The reason that I like to have a text transcription is because I can read it really quickly. If all I had was, for example, was a very readable/legible image of a baptism page it will at least half a minute, if not longer, to disp...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms

So in fact TNG works pretty much like FH - you view a person, select a fact, click on the source and then on the media icon to view the media. But in FH I don't have to click the source to view the media. If I select a fact it shows me any media linked to the fact, citations and the source. i.e. it...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms

option for "Method 1M" for media :) that would link media to desired relevant facts. I'm not sure what I'm missing here, but for facts in FH, if you have a citation/source with media, then clicking the Show Media for the selected fact shows thumbnails all the media for the all sources the fact refe...

Re: Addresses

Nick Whilst you are considering things to add could I suggest a couple? With the 1939 Register add Unpaid Domestic Duties to the Occupation automatic drop down? With the 1921 England Census add Home Duties to the Occupation automatic drop down? This would speed up data entry if it is feasible. Curr...

Fair point I guess -- but then I do NOT understand how the that info in linked in GEDCOM which was why I was asking. I use OneDrive all the time across multiple computers and don't have any problems with it. Having it actually built into the operating system and using the 'files on demand' feature makes it brilliantly convenient. It is also really good value for money. I only have to pay about £40 a year to get 1T...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms

It seems a shame to have to link images to a fact just for it to display correctly in TNG. This would be adding something to AS purely to work around a problem with someone else's software. Looking at the screenshot that Adrian posted, if TNG took a leaf out of FH's book and displayed images linked ...
