Re: Query when saving marriage entry
John is correct, but just to slightly expand on that... You have either typed in the name of someone as an associated individual (witness, etc.) or selected an individual from the list but you haven't actually added them to the list of associated individuals using the Add button.

Re: Can non-autogenerated template fields be made to persist?
It's a reasonable thing to want, it's just that AS doesn't do it yet. I tend to add features based on either things I think about implementing or things other people suggest. Whether it happens is dependant on a combination of factors such as time to implement, perceived demand for the feature, comp...

Re: Editing existing records in AS
But for all source types except Census, AS gives you the chance to retain existing citations, notes, images and witnesses so effectively it merges the new fact and the old one. What other information would you have recorded in a fact that wouldn't be covered by these? Replace Baptism.jpg Don't forge...

Re: AS {SOURCETYPE} tag usage question
I got Family Historian for Christmas in 2003 and very quickly realised I needed to write a program to help me to create my census sources - I'd previously used Family Tree Maker and that had an inaccessible file structure - I was attracted to FH because I could manipulate the GEDCOM. When I then men...

Re: AS {SOURCETYPE} tag usage question
As the help says: Source Identification : You can specify how Ancestral Sources should recognise sources in your file as being for a particular source type. This is used to identify relevant sources when using recording method 2 or when adding images to existing sources. You can specify rules for al...

Re: AS {SOURCETYPE} tag usage question
No the {SourceType} value is generated by Ancestral Sources, that can't be changed so you would need to use nested formulas to achieve what you want. This would display born, baptized, married, died, buried rather than Birth, Baptism, Marriage, Death, Burial =IF[=EQUALS[{SOURCETYPE}%Birth]%born%=IF[...

Re: Unable to enter diacritics in fields
Except, I've just discovered the same issue in FH. Holding down the L key in any of the fields in a Source template or even a note does not give me a choice other than the lower case unless I click on the cog and then select the upper case Ł. I seem to recall it working before, so very odd. See scr...

Re: AS {SOURCETYPE} tag usage question
I'm not sure what you mean by "live configuration parameter". All of the keywords are 'read only'. If you have selected the marriage source type in AS, then the {SOURCETYPE} will be Marriage, etc. The only one that is slightly different is the census source type where the {SOURCETYPE} will reflect t...

Re: Unable to enter diacritics in fields
As Gary has said, this is a feature that I certainly wasn't aware of before and I'm grateful to him for mentioning it. I am investigating, although this isn't a straightforward thing to add as it requires a slightly messy way to override the normal behaviour of a textbox which is to repeat the chara...

Re: Unable to enter diacritics in fields
Ok. Odd that nobody has seen this, given the responses so far. By the way; do you know if a foreign keyboard would work with FH7 (and possibly with AS7)? I do so many transcriptions and tend to touch-type, that this may also be a solution. Ancestral Sources just uses the standard Windows form text ...

Re: Unable to enter diacritics in fields
While this behaviour is present in FH7, it is not in AS7. This is true, but on the other hand Calico Pie earn a living from producing the software, whereas mine is provided for free. Some people are kind enough to make donations which are always gratefully received, but I just don't have the time a...

Re: Unable to enter diacritics in fields
Never mind, I've worked it out. In Family Historian you hold down a key (e.g. a) and it shows various accented options and there's an associated settings dialogue with lots of different character sets.
Sorry just posted this as you replied. I didn't know about this feature before.

Re: Unable to enter diacritics in fields
I don't recall being asked about this before over the last 18 years that I've been developing this software and it's predecessor. Can you explain or point me in the direction of something that explains what you are referring to when you say 'FH7 has the capability to directly enter diacritics (witho...

Re: Finding the index of the currently selected meta-field enumeration
We don't actually know how the Family Historian database is coded. I would assume it is a bespoke relational database that Calico Pie have developed using various data structures as nodes with pointers/linked-lists to connect them all together. Effectively a graph or network data structure. As you'v...

Re: RootsMagic 9 Templates Imported into FH7 don't appear in AS
All these things are mentioned in the video but a couple of things to check: You can only use source templates in AS if you are using recording method 1 (splitter sources). You need to have 'Use Templated Sources' ticked under Tools->Options You should then see a link 'Edit Templated Source...' on t...

Re: RootsMagic 9 Templates Imported into FH7 don't appear in AS
If you haven't seen it then I'd suggest watching my video on using templated sources in Ancestral Sources ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yxPQHlHgsg ). Around 4 to 5 mins in I talk about making sure the template is included in the project itself. This is required for AS to be able to see it. Then...

Re: Should I repeat previous old data entries using AS
With so many entries I just wondered if it would be beneficial and assist my research? Or just use AS from now on? As other's have said, this is obviously your decision. It depends on how satisfied you are with your current methods of recording sources, the benefits you feel you would get from doin...

Re: Should I repeat previous old data entries using AS
It is a 'census like' source. So choose Census and then choose Electoral Register from the Type drop-down list. Only UK register templates are included, but it may be possible to create register templates for other countries using the Census Templates... screen.

I'm assuming you've watched the video on Templated Sources in Ancestral Sources ( https://youtu.be/7yxPQHlHgsg ). If you haven't watched my video on sources then you may find that useful (https://youtu.be/jm6gg1HSbEs) . If you are using splitter sources then you attach the image of the source to the source. If you are using lumper sources then attach to the citation. If your image is of a person then link it to...

AS minor update v7.7.3
The Ancestral Sources v7.7 download page will now deliver a new minor update v7.7.3. I've not triggered AS to announce this update to users yet as I want to wait to see if there are any show-stoppers before I do that. So please let me know if you spot any serious issues. The list of changes since v7...
