Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Mike, I know we have quite a bit yet to do but I must say the data in FTM really looks quite good now. Getting the part and full images in with _ROOT (plugin) and getting OBJE attached to citations (prototype) really make it start to feel more rounded! The list of other issues and the detail behind ...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Yes we can look at other fields and characters in due course. I'm certain we can handle all that detail adequately. Indeed, FTM has its own way of delimiting/identifying data and I'm certain we can wrap things uniquely with a little thought. Right now I am less certain about the big stuff (round tri...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Commas handling is a little inconsistent. NAME: gets imported stripped of the comma into NAME NSFX: gets imported stripped of the comma into a separate NAME (but we're appending it to an existing NAME to avoid this). NICK: gets imported to ALIA with its comma (however we're using ALIA to work around...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Yes, round trip can come later...just sharing. Also yes, things are still evolving as new info comes to light. We are both mindful of trying to avoid development until there is sufficient certainty. That said, this is new to me, and I am "testing" alone, incompletely and at speed - the objective rem...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Observations (using UTF-16 with BOM, All-Abs and tab2 simple settings). 1) Imports to FTM no errors (OK). File contains 1 CHAR UNICODE (not UTF-16). 2) Both part and full images visible in INDI window (OK). _PHOTO default applied to first image (OK) - note this should only be created where one doesn...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Thanks Mike...I'll load it up and check. Looks like you've gone a lot further than just images! Please remember my research is "in progress"...I just found my work on citations was mislead and there is another way forward. It's all evolving still...BTW, I don't know how far you want me to go with "a...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Yes quite right, and that's what FH does at the moment. I suppose the co-ordinates are the only difference UNLESS someone has added a "link to frame" note. For now I would keep it simple and get something working. Tomorrow we might add functions to round trip the fields, later we might improve what ...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

FYI fhugdownloads:contents:rjt_family_historian_converter|> Family Historian Converter v1.3.0.0 by Jane TaubMan can be used to export FH to PHPGEDVIEW - crops images, etc.

You don't happen to know a VBA or command line cropping tool do you?

BTW Mike...

...to crop images, does the export use a routine inbuilt to FH or a widely available external routine or what? Clearly it doesn't use IrfanView via the command line like Jane's previous export.

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Yes I acknowledge the confusion between normal versus Gedcom terminology. I can see how normal use of records, record types, data types, keys and use of a level character requires care when dealing with this particular file. I'll try to be clearer, just ask if there is anything that is not clear. I ...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

1 NOTE do import to FTM under 0 FAM. I am uncertain what I noticed to write that comment but it was while considering _STAT and I've now edited it a bit. Indeed, I am probably changing my opinion on STAT. I said ignore it (good and pragmatic when you have no other choices) but in future we could use...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

I'll try, it's a work in progress and hopefully my mistakes will lead to improvements! Also, my emphasis has shifted a little from documenting to doing, consequently the facts are improving but the explanations might not be. As you've probably guessed, the report groups and orders tags according to ...

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

Many thanks Mike...that did it. This basic audit log might be useful to identify and record what works and what doesn't. At present it is helping me to learn what an FH GEDCOM can contain. It is mainly intended to show users what any routine will/will not do and to be useful in the monitoring and pr...

Thanks but I tried that originally. Unfortunately the log.txt reports "Upload denied. This file extension is forbidden!" and the pushfile thing gave me a headache so I'll not bother.

Actually, I mean upload an attachment (log.txt) file for others (you perhaps) to download. It only appears to allow images (reports wrong file type or something).

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow

I've added to the KB a page on status . The prototype now provides a basic log of tags to support this demand-lead development approach (something quick for the majority followed by additional functions driven by need). It categorises and reports all tags encountered like this: INDI tags: known and ...

The position in the file was a clue:

If you Remove Entirely the _PLAC records you get blank records instead. Does no harm tho.

Re: Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow ~ Media

As a reminder to myself, you are seeking a way to round-trip note records to preserve data that might be used to re-merge into FH or indeed for FH data that FTM doesn't have a place for. I'll be coming back to use of notes in detail when I start working on exporting from FTM.
