Re: Printing descendant reports
Is it possible to roll back the update to how it was before Calico messed it up? Not from where you probably are now. I always download and save the installation file prior to upgrading. I use this in combination with a simple batch file that does a one-click copy of all FH settings (which is all y...

Re: Printing descendant reports
I find that if the window height is reduced, the buttons in the right-hand pane disappear behind the "Page Records" list. I find exactly the same if I drag the bottom edge of the window up, the buttons start to disappear, with no way to access them other than dragging the window back down. Those bu...

Re: FH7 Downloads and Media
Oh, dear! How strange! It is not actually saying "admin" but DESKTOP-V301J03. Is that the PC you are working on, or some other PC? (If not sure then use Start > Settings > System > About and check the Device name under Device specifications .) Actually, it's saying more than that Mike, it is saying...

Re: Modern day conundrum
It is not a one-click button but it is quite easy to swap the Primary Name and an Alternate Name (AKA). Click the more (+)... link next to a person's Name in the Property Box. In the Names & Titles dialogue select the Alternate Name you want to make Primary and click Make Primary . That swaps it wi...

Re: Add Photo to Focus Window
Margaret, This was a problem in the v7 beta testing that I reported and it was seemingly fixed. I have also noticed that it has reared its head again. You will find if you change to a different person and then go back the blank will be filled with your picture. It needs reporting again to Calico Pie...

Re: FMP Hints transferring to FH7
Further to gowermick’s comment, if you have a subscription to FMP you don’t need to print then scan the document from the hint.
Just find the record from the website and download it. You can then import it to FH in the normal way this avoiding any unnecessary printing.

Re: Launching FH in Win 11
In Win 10, when I right-clicked on the FH icon from the Start menu, I was given a choice of projects to open, which I found very handy. I have pinned FH to the Start menu in Win 11 but the right-click trick no longer works. Wouls it require action from Calico Pie to restore this function? (I have n...

Re: FH version 7.0.8.2 backup failure
Rather than Shutdown & startup, it is better to perform a Restart , which does better reset. OR For the most powerful reset, ensure all applications are closed, then hold down the PC Power button until it shuts down. The PC Power button is the one you use to boot up the PC. Hmm. I would not recomme...

Re: Family Chart Printing
Yes you can create and print a chart for one level of descendants (v7 and I believe it was the same in v6) View > Charts > Descendants... Pick the person if it's not the current person then select the 'Generations down'. In V7 this is 1/2/3/4/5/10/15/20/All generations So for me, this creates a char...

Re: Windows 11 issue?
Check the File > Recent Projects list and hover to see the full path. Maybe you have another similarly named Project folder/GEDCOM outside your Family Historian Projects folder. I've just opened AS without firing it up from the FH Tool, and File shows a) Current Project is Default WAS ticked (I hav...

Re: Windows 11 issue?
I know you are now getting round the problem by using Mike's plugin, but that does suggest that AS was previously opening on the wrong project. When you reloaded the (correct) project into AS did you remember to use File>Current Project is Default before closing AS? If not, it would revert to the '...

Well the plugin certainly cures the issue, and I've used the option to add it to the Tools menu.
Thanks Mike.

Re: Windows 11 issue?
Completely certain it was the correct Project. It happens every time I close and re-open AS The top bar in both cases (when opening AS and after re-loading the project) says Ancestral Sources v7.2.4 Project: Grantham2012 If I click to reload, there is only one instance of Grantham2012 alongside 3 ot...

Windows 11 issue?
Hi, Since upgrading my PC to Windows 11, I noticed that even though the Title bar in AS shows my project correctly, when I go to add for example a Census entry, when I went to load the image and pick the folder to save in, only 1 of the 3 folders showed. Also, on the Text: Auto button, there was onl...

Re: Census entry - Boarder
Thanks Mike,The other technique is to just add the FH relation as described earlier, but in the AutoText manually edit the table to include the others in the household so it becomes a literal transcript of the Census image.
I like that idea

Re: Census entry - Boarder
Thanks both,
I just found another similar thread where the same recommendations were made.
I've also looked at Census entries with niece/grandson/grandaughter etc and had to do some head scratching to work out who they were related to!
I am going to employ the Notes option.

Census entry - Boarder
Hello all My Grandfather is a Boarder in a household in 1911 census, and this is something I've never tackled before - only household of the same family before. Therefore, I am after some guidance. When I add the Head/Wife etc. who are not related to my Grandfather and therefore not in my FH databas...

FH 7 install
Hello all, especially fellow Beta testers. So, I am about to order my copy of FH7. My question is, I have FH6 and 7 beta installed. Does the full version update one of these installs or is it entirely standalone like the beta? Just wondering if I need to 'tidy' up after. Perhaps remove the beta if i...

Re: Descendant Diagram question
See 16256|Colour coded pedigree chart that describes the general principals. Just substitute IsDescendantOf(...) where appropriate. There are four options for choosing who will act as the root/focus person. You will only need the simplest expression without need of the ~MOTH> and ~FATH> cases. e.g....
