OK, obviously it's bringing up the installer when you open the program, regardless of rebooting etc. so the Task Manager won't be much use really.
Version 2 is now quite old and has no support, so Windows 11 is obviously a step too far for it.

Re: Size of start page
Either kill it using Task Manager, or reboot the PC would get rid of it?

Re: Size of start page
To follow on from Mike's reply, the warning isn't on the install, but the actual download process. I have Win11 and tried it, and in Edge, got a red x saying it was unsafe, if you click the 3 dots you can select 'keep' to download the update file. upgrade1.jpg upgrade2.jpg upgrade3.jpg It takes a bi...

Hi 'pjm' The info panel to the right, where Mike Tate asked about you being on v2 - which you confirmed - also suggests from the '2 posts' (which increments each time you post/reply) that you're either completely new to the forum, or if you posted before, it would have been under a different 'alias'...

Re: Charts and Publish commands freeze FH
Sergio,
I am also on Win 11
I've noticed with the latest release of FH 7.0.15, that it takes a lot longer to generate the reports and diagrams than before, which were usually pretty instant.
At first I also thought FH was frozen/crashed, but they do appear

Adrian, with Lorna's permission, I passed on her comments to CP 1. In the fields which now show on the Facts tab (previously only on the All tab) 2. By creating witness roles. 3. By using the 'Rel' field in the Focus Window. These three are independent of each other. How is the user (especially a ne...

Re: Adoption
Subsequent question. As I am unaware if the family of my Uncle know about this child (their half brother), until I know that they do, I would hate to let any report or diagram inadvertantly show this person (and his adoptive parents). What is the best/recommended way to hide the 3 people involved fr...

Ah, spotted it, it says 'Her son David.....' And Calico Pie's reply: The "Family" and "by" fields are not new. They have been there for a very long time. These fields allow the adoptive parent details to be stored as original standard GEDCOM fields. There is no harm in using them, and arguably some ...

Re: Adoption
Adding witnesses updates the sentence as one might expect. Not quite as expected. If I add witnesses of adoptive father and birth mother only adoptive father is shown in the sentence, but change birth mother to adoptive mother and they both show. Is that a flaw. The son told me that his mother and h...

Neil, exactly what does the Fact Witness popup dialogue say for the Adoption Event? Is the adoptive 'husband' Individual record listed under Witness and is Adoptive Father listed under Role? It is crucial that the Role name used matches the Adoption Event definition of Role names, otherwise they wo...

Yes, exactly that. I was expecting that filling those in would update the sentence, otherwise, as you say elsewhere, what are those selections achieving.LornaCraig wrote: ↑07 Sep 2022 11:33No, Neil and I are both talking about the Facts tab.

Adoption
Wondering if I've done something wrong. A recent 'revelation' came to light, where I found my Uncle had an affair with a married lady, which led to a child. My Uncle was married, as was the lady, and my Uncle and his wife offered to adopt the child. The lady refused, and he was adopted by the mother...

Pete, I use icons on my diagrams that look like this: tree flags.jpg I went to Diagram>Options...>Boxes and added an expression for each UK Census year 1841-1921 + the 1939 register Here's the 1841 expression Flag expression.jpg With the expression highlighted, you can then click 'Edit Features...' ...

Re: recent update
We are not bothered about standardisation. We just want FH to tell us where it puts the installation file, so that if needed it can be reinstalled later to return to an earlier version. I would say that FH should be following a Microsoft standard for downloads. In Windows 7 onwards that became C:\U...

Re: Event order
Unless my eyes deceive me Neil, those military attributes are dated 15 Feb 1914 so must precede the 15 Dec 1914 facts. Maybe there are some typos, i.e. the month entered was 2 or 12 when they should all be the same month. Oops, yes correct! You did type 1918 yourself ;) I see you've corrected it to...

Re: Event order
I'm confused. In the OP screenshot, the Enlisted and Residence facts already appear to be in the desired order! They are both Dated 15 Dec 1914 and the black arrow shows they can be swapped, but that is not necessary as they are already in the requested order. I interpreted that they need to be abo...

Yes (FH Help > Check for Updates > Upgrade Now option?) and then couldn't find the exe anywhere, You shouldn't have to look for an exe file, you should get this window, if there was an update, you click 'Upgrade Now' and it then downloads, then starts the update automatically, after confirming to c...

Re: 'Envelope' is Set as the Default Paper Size
Yes, that is a bit strange, but what are the default page size settings for your actual printers? If you simply try to print any document from Windows, using say Microsoft Word, what is the default paper size? To adjust those defaults in Windows 10, use Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & scann...

Re: 'Envelope' is Set as the Default Paper Size
Jeff Have you checked what your printer(s) are actually set to. If you open a Word/Excel or similar document and do a print preview, are you seeing the same problem? For example, my default printer is set to Letter as below. So is your default printer showing Envelope as the paper available? I've ju...

Re: Upgrade from v3 to v6
I originally purchased FH v3 on CD which I still have with key. I think, but not certain, that I purchased upgrades for each new version. I might have repurchased v6 and I have just forgotten. My tablet died last week. It did not have a cd reader but I had v6 FH installed on it. Now replaced with a...

Re: Pictures - Frames moved
I certainly did. As I use images regularly for purposes other than Family Historian, I keep all my photos (including tens of thousands of "other family photos") in Lightroom Classic, and when using them for other purposes, I will often crop or otherwise edit an image. Most of those edits wont matte...
