Mike,
Thanks for the response and the UTF-8 explanation. Old habits obviously die hard, even when I haven't had the need for the utility's functions for some time!

Property Box Tab Organiser (FHUG Downloads)
Mike (tatewise), I've just revisited this useful little utility for the first time since the release of FH6 and its functionality appears to possibly have been broken by FH6 (and possibly Windows updates), i.e. when the utility is launched: 1. It initially complains that MSVCR71.DLL cannot be found ...

Re: Possible Bug when Editing Notes
Mike If I've read your sequence of actions correctly, what you are doing is overwriting the Windows Clipboard's memory when you copy and paste the Citation between the two fact entries, which is why you can't paste the Fact again. You could try to use one of the freeware Windows Clipboard management...

Re: downloading version 6 from PC to laptop
You need to e-mail Calico Pie with details of your original purchase and request the download link again.
Make sure you keep a copy of the FH installation file when you get it and, of course, the full registration details. You never know when you might need them again.

Re: Change Custom Query Name
Or, if you only want to change the name of the Query then you could simply use Windows File Manager to locate the Custom Query File and rename that file. The change in query name should then be reflected in Family Historian Custom Query Menu

JULIAN DATING BUG Have just tested again and my favourite long-standing Version 6 BUG is still present in 6.1.3, i.e. Julian Dates do not work correctly, although they were fine from Version 2 to 5. To repeat: the BUG is that FH 6 does not recognise that Julian Calendar years (as used in Parish Reg...
Re: Marriages
Given the limited information you have about the mother, the next steps would normally be to identify the possible individuals (which you've already done), and then try to begin to narrow down the possibles, until you only have one left: a) As the child was born in 1902, were any of the possible mot...

Re: Ancestry to Retire Family Tree Maker Software
"What I want to know is, is FH going to be in for the long haul?" This is an almost impossible question to answer except for the facts: - Calico Pie released FH Version 6 little more than a year ago, whereas FTM ceased its annual software updates with 2014, despite an escalating volume complaints ab...

Re: FH Estimated Age when no Birth Date
As far as I am aware the program calculation of 'age at event date' only works from a recorded birth event, either actual or 'estimated'. Any other option would require the programming of 'if then else variants' to included calculation based on baptism or christening dates, which I presume Calico Pi...

Colin (Valkrider),
fn+F7 and fn+F8 work fine for me on my MacBook Pro with VirtualBox V. 5.0.14 (Guest Additions installed) + Windows 10 Pro + FH 6.1.1. Also checked my WINE (Wineskin) Test installation and the key combinations work there as well.

Short Birth Certificates: The answer to why a family might only have 'Short' Birth Certificates is relatively easy to answer/understand. Sorry, but I go back to the argument that someone can only be born once and can only die once so, although GEDCOM will allow multiple Birth dates, researchers shouldn't, as it makes no sense in the real world. - If you have documentary evidence which suggests differing dates and you can't determine ...

Jacqui, Codeweavers released a Crossover 15.0.1 update on 13 January which might make some further performance improvements as it is the first Crossover release to include the final release of WINE Version 1.8. Not sure if it will improve things as I use an alternative 'product' which made the final...

It was probably a corrupted download. First thing to try is re-downloading to eliminate that possibility.

Re: Project window query
Opening two instances of Family Historian side by side can sometimes be useful if you have enough screen space to see/compare two FH data-files or to compare your own project with an external GEDCOM File. Unfortunately, you can't use 'Drag and Drop' to copy individual records between two data-files ...

Bob,
You get the effect shown in your screenshot if you manually shrink the size of the pop-up input box too far. Try enlarging the box by dragging the bottom right-hand corner and everything should reappear (as if by magic!).

Colin, I presume Crossover has 'adopted' the latest release of Wine (1.8 Release Candidate 3) and that's probably where the main improvements lie. I've just tried my test installation of FH, using Wineskin, and also see some significant improvements in Map display etc. and also in the reliability of...

For Australia, much depends on the State you are researching but there are quite a few sources on FindMyPast and Ancestry. Also you could try: Newspaper Searches at http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home and http://www.ryersonindex.org Results will obviously depend on how (un)usual the surnames are th...

Bill48,
You can't install FH as a 64-bit program. It's 32-bit only program, as standard, which works fine on a 64-bit Windows system.
