Re: Detecting emulator/Wine by plugin
Don't know if this offers any detection options but at the top level of each Wine Application Prefix (the application's root folder). there is a number of a text files including one named "system.reg". The first line of text in that file currently states: "WINE REGISTRY Version 2" Exactly the same a...

Re: Timestamp error in Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin
FWIW it is possible to import/export Registry Files in WineApps (including Crossover etc.), but this should be carried out using the Wine implementation of 'regedit'. WineHQ Guidance warns strongly against attempting to edit the Wine implementation of the Registry by any other method. That said, fro...

Re: Problem with Census plugin
Ruth,
The problem might, at least in part, be associated with the use of Tables by the Plugin. Whatever method has been implemented by the Calico Pie developers in FH7 to produce text output in Tables just doesn't work in Wine (Crossover etc.).

Re: Backup and Restore FH Settings via Windows - new plugin
FWIW the best option for users of Wine/Crossover etc. is to regularly backup (i.e. Export) the application's Wine Prefix, which includes all settings stored in Appdata, Registry files etc. That option provides a 'protected snapshot' which can be reimported to restore an 'as was' version of the origi...

Re: Backup and Restore FH Settings via Windows - new plugin
Mark,
One quick question (prior to playing):
If the aim of the plugin/script is to employ existing Windows capabilities, why add a 7zip option (requiring additional software) rather than simply using Windows inbuilt ability to compact/extract data to/from zip files?

Re: Help not working
@Chrisv, Another 'blocking' possibility is some third party, so-called, security product such as a continually active anti-virus/malware scanner, which can randomly block access to perfectly safe files for no clear reason, other than failing to recognise the source/purpose of the file or believing t...

Re: Help not working
As this is apparently happening with multiple programs, not just FH, one quick check that might be worthwhile is to verify that the default Windows setting for opening .chm files is still correctly registered. See below

Re: New PC MS Word & Libre Office Problems
AFAIK the only way to prevent .odt files from automatically launching LibreOffice (or whatever application is currently the default), would be to change the 'Default Apps' settings in Windows to set MS Word as the default app for .odt , but that preference would then, of course, be universally appli...

Re: Running FH on Mac via Virtual machine
Mike,
Windows 11 is only available as 64-bit release. There is no 32-bit version. ARM-based Mac's and/or MacOS won't directly run any 32-bit operating systems, software or processes. That capability was completely eliminated a couple of OS versions ago.

Re: Running FH on Mac via Virtual machine
Alex, If you are running Windows 11 on Parallels on an M1 Mac, then my 'guess' would be the you are also running an ARM version of Windows 11 Pro; and not an x86 (64-bit) version. Is that correct? If it is, then your issue will probably be about the ability of the ARM Version of Windows 11 to fully ...

If you are really missing the Drag & Drop to Task Bar features then have a look at https://github.com/HerMajestyDrMona/Win ... TaskbarFix , pending any changes the Microsoft may make in a future Windows 11 Feature Upgrade.

Some additional bits of info.: For Mac M1 (and beyond) series computers the only virtualisation option currently working is Parallels which is a commercial (paid) product and requires an M1 (ARM) compatible versions of Windows/Linux as x86 based operating systems do not work on M1 processors which d...

Adrian, You could well be right but, as already mentioned, single words in isolation from wider examples of the hand can be problematic and the 'l' in the first word didn't appear like any naturally flowing flourish to me. However, that he worked in a Corn Merchant's (whether the same or different e...

One possible alternative given the construction of the first word: Flourman Corn Merchant, i.e. someone who sold flour for a Corn Merchant.

Re: Mystery placename
A village known as 'Ebenezer' was located the Parish of Llanddeiniolen, Caernarfonshire; and is now known as Deiniolen. Seems possible that the "original name" may have been locally adopted because of the Ebenezer Chapel located there. See discussion thread at https://www.british-genealogy.com/forum...

Re: FH v7.09 and Crossover v21.1 & reports
Colin, I've just tested the FH7.0.9 Reports feature using a native Wine installation on Linux (Debian/MX Linux) and reports still appear to be working as normal, so the problem might have been introduced with the latest Crossover update and may need reporting to Codeweavers rather than Calico Pie. M...

Re: Is there a way to link two individuals that likely are the same person?
Bill, The GEDCOM 5.5.1 (and earlier) TAG definition is: "ALIA {ALIAS}:= An indicator to link different record descriptions of a person who may be the same person." But, I do agree that it can appear confusing to someone who is more familiar with the the non-genealogy usage of 'alias' as meaning an i...

Re: Is there a way to link two individuals that likely are the same person?
The standard GEDCOM method is to use the 'Alias Tag', not to be confused with usual meaning of an alias being an alternative name used by a person. - Make a note of the Individual IDs of the possible 'matches' - Make one of them the focus individual - Select the All Tab for that individual - Right C...

Colin, I can't replicate your Mojave setup, but confirm that the same 'problem' occurs when using Mac OS 'Big Sur' and Crossover 21.1, i.e. Report production still works when using FH 6, but fails with the same error message you reported when using FH7.0.9. Hadn't noticed this before, as I now mostl...

Yes, the Alias Tag is available in FH, and has been as far back as I can remember. Easy to add link(s) between possible matching individuals via the 'All' Tab.
