Re: Question: Marriage Status

There seems to be some misunderstanding here. ANUL has been fully supported by GEDCOM as an event since version 4.0 and I'm afraid the Status indicator in Family Historian has nothing whatsoever to do with GEDCOM, or whatever its limitations might/might not be. It's simply a hard coded Calico Pie 'a...

Re: Connect two people

The suggestions so far seem to be based on an assumption that, simply because, the two children have been described as 'siblings' in a newspaper article (time, date and place unknown) that one of the two known adults (parents?) has a direct genetic link to both children. This may be the case, but is...

Re: Add GRO Source plugin

I would ask one more question: Why is the "Name" that appears in the GRO Index not recorded in the source citation, i.e. What if the the name in GRO Index entry does not precisely match the PersonID Name? My own practice is to record index entries exactly as recorded in Text from Source - "Where wit...

Re: Hints from FMP

Have a look at "Internet Data Matching" in Family Historian Help which explains how the search of FindMyPast and MyHeritage works (and its limitations). Hint: It's an automated search facility: FMP uses some of the key data in your local Family Historian file as you work through it and flags up Hint...

Re: New Computer Help & advice needed please

David,

Disc Cloning to a new Windows 10 device would, in all probability, completely trash Windows Activation, as well as erasing the recovery partition and as there is no Windows 10 Activation Key, except in the case of purchasing a full retail version....

Re: Cannot Save Report as PDF on Mac with Crossover

Geoff, I use the native MacOS app VipRiser - https://onflapp.wordpress.com/vipriser/ - mainly because it's still maintained unlike the other Mac options which have not been updated for years because there is little/no real need for a pure PDF Printer Driver on MacOS when running native apps. The bas...

To add to Colin's comments see below, although this is on a MacBook Pro rather than an Air which is limited to a dual core i5 processor which is obviously lower in the power stakes: Image shows the Mac Desktop with: - Windows 10 Pro (installed using VirtualBox) directly running Windows Apps - Linux ...

Re: GEDCOM 5.5.1 Standard Release Nov 2019

My opinion remains unaltered by all the varied assessments and reports, primarily because there is a great deal of dishonesty out there about which GEDCOM Standard is being supported by which genealogy software product. - Any developer who states that their product specifically supports GEDCOM 5.5 a...

Re: GEDCOM 5.5.1 Standard Release Nov 2019

Presumably it puts FH some way behind others that have already adopted 5.5.1 as a standard, unless the question becomes: Will FH7 be fully 5.5.1 (and possibly 5.5.5) compliant? Of course, those that have already adopted 5.5.1, some several years ago, still have the same issues with data transfer bec...

Colin, In contrast, I very much doubt that there are many FH users who use symbolic links at all, let alone between the folders you mentioned, but I'd be pleased to be proved wrong. The only way I use them is to avoid the need for multiple copies of linked document/media files If I remember correctl...

Colin, Works fine on Catalina (which itself has just been upgraded to 10.15.2 - another 3Gb download which makes Windows monthly updates look puny!) A third-party MacOS checker (Go64) reports Crossover as 64-bit, apart from one library file 'libFAudio.0.19.10.dylib' Not sure what the impact might be...

The system Colin describes is very similar to the one I use, i.e. I'm also a Mac User and use 'Time Machine' which once configured requires very little user maintenance/interaction time (no expensive NAS Drive or Internet/Cloud costs involved); but in my case I also have a portable synchronisation D...

Re: Research Planner Version 2 -- request for beta testing

Helen,

The Version in the AppStore does seem to have been updated (6 Dec 2019), but isn't recognised by the "Check Installed Plugins Against the Store" Plugin, presumably because it identifies as the same version number as the previous release.

However, tha...

Users could, of course, use an alternative to File Explorer to avoid the problem. There's no shortage of free alternatives which mostly offer additional features that Microsoft continually neglects to add.

Colin,

If this is on your Mac Laptop then, for 'Delete' substitute 'fn+BackArrow' (bottom left+top right). [No 'Delete' key on Mac laptops or the more common Compact Keyboard].

I think it's important to recognise that the marriage of a British female to a German citizen did not result, historically, in her losing British Citizenship under British Law, but rather in her acquiring alternative German/Reich Citizenship on marriage under German/Reich Law until 1953. However, Ge...
