Have you tried adjusting the individual app scaling properties for Family Historian in the Windows property box? See image below There's also at least one app that does something similar for individual applications you may want (need) to use at a different resolution to the desktop: http://www.brian...

Re: FH7 report paragraph fix - new version v7.0.1.1
Nice theory on the 'released' updates, which would hold well if the new versions were clearly identified as 'test builds', which some developers do, but I'm afraid that it falls down very quickly, because the fact is that if anyone who downloads the 'current' version (as at 24 Jan 2021) from https:/...

Re: Reading 17th Century Parish Records
Peter, Very difficult to draw any conclusion without finding more info. It's likely that the child's 'real' surname as far as the Church was concerned was Smale/Small, having been born the son of an unmarried woman, but that he was known in the community as James Ballamy/Bellamy, perhaps suggesting ...

Re: Reading 17th Century Parish Records
Helen, Yes you could well be correct. It's a bit difficult to see what's round the bend (if anything) at the side of the page, which also makes it difficult the get the last couple of words after the month, which might be December or November, but seeing it in the context of the surrounding entries ...

Re: Hide Startup Banner
The duration of the 'Splash' screen appears to be dependent on the startup process used, i.e. for me : 1) If I don't select a default startup database the duration is 1 sec. but I then have to select the project and start it. 2) If I select a default project to be started then the 'splash' remains u...

Re: Calico Pie resolved my problem
Adrian, You are probably right, but new purchasers will automatically download the 'new' release and, as Calico Pie, haven't provided a change log, it's impossible to know with any certainty what has/has not been changed since the original release. Also, if someone has a 'help' issue with a an unkno...

Re: Calico Pie resolved my problem
Peter, Thanks for that link. Calico Pie are obviously under pressure resolving issues and haven't got round to notifying the vast majority of users that this update has been posted either on their Website; or via the application itself which doesn't yet recognise that the update is available. Re: Saint and Street format conventions
I believe the original reason for High-street, Greenfield-road, Acacia-avenue etc was to present individual address lines as a 'single hyphenated word', thereby ensuring they remained on the same line of text throughout the time when the convention was not to allow conjoined typed/printed words to b...

Re: Saint and Street format conventions
Not that complex really :) Many (most) cities in the UK were originally divided up by Parish boundaries (or the expansion of building within separate parishes eventually resulted in large towns/cities being formed) and districts inherited the names of the original Parish, e.g. St Pancras, Middlesex ...

Or, if you want to avoid 'Custom' Facts you could use Possessions, which could cover Freehold/Copyhold/Leasehold 'title' which was a qualification for a voting entitlement (depending on value), even if the actual use of the premises was by some other party.

Re: Move data from one field to another in same fact
Yes, thanks Mike. There's still a lot of 'new' in V7 that going to take a lot of time to get round to appreciating more fully, as you've already noted many times. At times it appears like a completely new system grafted on to a familiar core interface. Not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes dist...

Re: Move data from one field to another in same fact
Hate to be so simplistic but, out of curiosity, why not use the standard 'btw 1950 and 1953' which isn't a date phrase so produces 'was born between 1950 and 1953'

Users on this Forum should be very careful about making comments/sharing opinions on the RootsMagic 8 Beta software. Testing is ongoing and is still covered by a Confidentiality Agreement which applies to anyone who has gained access to the Beta releases; and we should fully respect that in the same...

I'm sure you'll get many options suggested but I tend to use a combination of the graphic image below for 'immediate impact combined with a similar 'flag/icon' and notes describing what is in doubt/needs more evidence. I'm yet to look at the new 'Research Notes' features if FH Version 7.

Re: FH6 and FH7 on same PC?
Of course, if Calico Pie had a 'Public Bugtracker' within the Registration Site then registered users would have a chance of knowing when a problem has already been reported/acknowledged; and would be able to add pertinent information to existing reports, rather than duplicating them. It would also ...

Evelyn, I don't think you have any need at all to feel "very stupid". I'm still trying to find my way around all the changes in FH7, which seem to be represent the most complex version to version change so far, having used the software continuously since the first public release (Version 2). It's al...

@philk Which Linux distribution and which version of Wine are you using? Might not be able to replicate precisely but willing to try to get as near as possible. Re: High cost of upgrade
Sorry, but what is the point of this 'discussion'? The price is the price the seller decides. It is simply "an invitation to treat" and the prospective purchaser is not compelled to pay the price asked, as they can walk away and buy/use something else if they don't feel it's worthwhile/affordable.
