Re: Problems Running FH V6 with Crossover on Mac

Irene,

As the error message says "File not found", can I ask the obvious? Have you checked the location mentioned using the Mac's File manager to verify whether or not it does exist there and is correctly named?

Re: Ancestral Sources and Crossover V 20

Diane, Under Crossover, I have only personally tested the new, version 7, of Family Historian and new Ancestral Sources as 32-bit installations, primarily because Family Historian is a 'purely' 32-bit program. I also opted to use the same bottle for FH7 and Ancestral Sources (plus some additional so...

Re: Ancestral Sources and Crossover V 20

Diane, I'm not using Catalina now, having 'upgraded' to Big Sur (MacOS 11.2.2), but Ancestral Sources is still working fine for me (with the exception of the 'new style' FH7 Tables). My current setup is FH7.0.2, plus Ancestral Sources 7.2.3 ('test version') in the same Crossover 'Bottle' (Wine Prefi...

Re: FH v7 and windows emulators WARNING

GeoffR, That display looks as if you are starting your Notes with a Blank first line (Carriage Return). You would get something very similar in Windows 'proper', minus the 'square box' which is a non-printing Carriage Return character that appears under Crossover/Wine and IME was (is) the same in FH...

Re: GEDCOM 7.0

I'm equally curious about the 'Why the sudden interest in developing GEDCOM 7?' considering that the LDS were so adamant that they wouldn't continue the traditional GEDCOM development after the 'new' FamilySearch (GEDCOM 6) format was stated to be their only focus for the future. As far as the equal...

Re: Freeform citation in V7

Mentioned it because they serve the same purpose, i.e. in RootsMagic Freeform is the generic selection where the user does not want/need/use a specific templates, or simply wants to avoid EE's academic approach to recording sources. Comparative snapshots below which show the strong similarity. Mervyn

Isn't the FH Generic Source template already the direct equivalent of RootsMagic's Freeform template?

Re: Invitation to a census

Hmmm! Pardon the cynicism, but it seems to me that there's a significant difference between being required "by law" to fill in a Census Form, which the vast majority of people will comply with; and expecting them to provide wholly accurate information. I'm sure most, if not all, of us must have come...

Re: Ancestral Sources and Crossover V 20

Nick, Sample Output just to illustrate the RTF issue for Wine Users, plus the Error Message produced if a save is attempted with this format. Switching immediately back to the 'old style' text output eliminates the issue and allows the same entry to be processed without problems. I'm beginning to su...

Re: Ancestral Sources and Crossover V 20

In my experience to date, the latest Version of Ancestral Sources appears to mostly work in Crossover 20.x, as does Family Historian 7. By mostly, I mean data input and saves in Ancestral Sources are fine, providing the 'new' Family Historian text features such as Tables and Rich Text are avoided, w...

Re: Permission for minor to marry?

In England, having banns read three times in the 'home parish' without receiving a registered objection from the parent(s)/guardian(s) of an 'under age' individual was most probably interpreted as implying parental/guardianship permission. The 'clergy' would, of course, also be attempting to 'balanc...

Re: Running FH7 on laptop without internet

John, Presumably the internet connection problem with the 'old' laptop is getting a wireless connection? If that is that case you could try making a temporary physical connection to the Router using a network cable which usually solves any short-term problems, and it also allows you to check/update ...

Re: Testing Plugins for V6 and V7

People seem to be unnecessarily stressed about Software Licences for previous versions of FH and I'm not sure why because I ca't see any logical reason for Calico Pie to become negatively exited by someone simply testing FH add-ons (Plug-ins) in different FH versions or even actively using two versi...

The equivalence for RootsMagic's 'Place Details' would be the 'Address' field in Family Historian Events as it serves the same purpose.

A Virtual Machine is a 'second' PC with very low investment in any hardware or I would currently be sitting in front of 19 PCs :D

Re: Testing Plugins for V6 and V7

In addition to Colin's 'Wine in Windows' suggestion which I've never tried, I would suggest: a) a full Windows Virtual Machine as an alternative. If you don't have a 'spare' Windows licence (7/8.0/8.1, might still allow upgrades to Windows 10 at no cost according to various internet guides) then Mic...

Re: "Past tense" field in New Role dialogue

Alyn, Have you tried the Family Historian 'Help', from the Top Menu Bar? Select the Search Tab in Family Historian Help option and search for 'Witness' The first selection that pops up should be 'Sentence Template Codes'. Select that entry and you'll find a very clear explanation of what the Witness...

The simplest answer might be the best available :D - the Register Office index compiler probably couldn't decide from the copy Certificate how the child's last name should be recorded, so decided to index both possibilities separately in the Index, i.e. A married woman may have had a child by someon...

Re: Default settings Focus Window /Property Box

The one on the left looks as if it's using the Windows 10 Dark Mode and possibly some other theme settings, which can also affect the appearance of applications, but I'm more inclined towards the possibility that it's more down to the Monitor's colour settings.

Here's one small 'donation ware' product, FreeVimager, that seems to work well, i.e. in addition to being able to edit and create images in a wide range of formats , it can also simply load documents/images created by other products and convert/copy them to EMF format: https://www.portablefreeware.c...
