Re: Diagram anomaly

Hm ....

it seems as though my wife's parents were both 6th and 7th cousins :o so there are two routes back to her 7x and 8x gt grandparents.

You live and learn ;)

Diagram anomaly

I did a simple ancestor diagram today, and was surprised to see that my wife's 7 x gt grandparents were her 7 x gt grandparents!

I've attached a screenshot. What's gone wrong here?

Re: Which online FH offers best value

I'm not sure of the status of the Hugh Wallis site now that the IGI site has been updated. You might find that

http://www.archersoftware.co.uk/igi/

is more comprehensive, although I miss the presentation of search results that the old site used to give.

Re: Scottish names & d'Aboville Numbers

Thanks, Prefix and suffix it is then :D As for ahnetafel numbers, it seems that's not what I want. The numbering system I need is similar to this: 2-1-4-3-2 which represents second child of the third child of the fourth child of the first child of the second child. I'm not sure if this is an "offici...

Sorted! Name format = Adorned (Full)

Simples

Tsk!

Now to get the ahnetafel numbers to work on the diagram. Root's ok, rest don't display :?

Scottish names & d'Aboville Numbers

I'm working on a tree where there's a large number of Scots whose names have various prefixes and suffixes. For example: Sir Alexander, I of Ardloch James of Keppan and Kildonan Sir Roderick "Tutor of Kintail" Simple question, how do I get these to display on a chart? I'm using the Title field for "...

Creating a book

Dear Tatewise First, my apologies for not responding earlier, but with recent spell of relatively good weather my attentions have been focussed elsewhere. It may help if I give a brief outline of the project. The objects of my research, we’ll call them Mr and Mrs C, lived in a small village on the W...

Creating a book

Dear Lorna, Tatewise Thank you for the interest you have taken with my problems with creating a book. It seems that using either of the two methods I did to create the book will result in much duplication of source references (and of narrative text). I suppose that someone much cleverer than I ought...

Creating a book

Hi Lorna I found that setting, and re-created my book selecting all the people I wanted in it in one go, but the sources appear at the end of each individual's report. I really want the book to include two principal individuals (husband and wife), and all their relatives, but there's not an 'all rel...

Creating a book

I've been playing with creating a Book. I've noticed that if I create individual narrative pages for a selection of people, and include sources, the sources are listed at the end of the report for each individual. This means that where there are large numbers of sources, and accompanying images, the...

Why sources being listed more than once

Once again, as the contributions to this thread prove, we desperatley need more control over the formatting of not just notes, but events and attributes, and printed reports as well. I despair at the tortuous eforts needed just to get blank lines before/after notes. Quite simply, we should not have ...

Testing for Check and Repair Media Links

Ooops [oops]

My apologies Jane, I posted in the wrong thread. The fault I got was with the Check for Unlinked Media, not the Check and Repair Media Links. Didn't spot the error until I tried to go to a non-existent line number! Check and repair media works ok :) just some 400+ links to fix now.

I've bought this app to run on my iPad. I've downloaded my GEDCOM file without any problems, and imported it into the app, but now I have 9800 or so unrelated individuals! It's not imported any relationship data, nor any media. All other events and notes seen to have come across without any problem....

Entering Biographies

When I spotted Bob’s initial question I recognised immediately a common interest. Whilst FH is uncommonly good at helping us record the facts about the people we’re researching, it’s understanding the context within which people lived their lives that help us understand not just what they did, but w...

Passenger lists

Thanks, Jane, it's a start. However, if you look at the Sailed from fact, is it possible to set up a field to hold the name of the ship, so that I can create a sentence of the form: 'He sailed from Shanghai, China, on 19 October 1941 on the SS President Coolidge.' I appreciate I can use the place an...

Passenger lists

I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but, what is the best way to record a fact about an individual and/or a family to show that they travelled from one place to another, and where that information is obtained fom a passenger list? It's not strictly immigration or emmigration, but just a re...

Loading FH on a Net Book

When I got my netbook, the first think I did was to get a usb DVD writer. First reason was so I could make copies of all the recovery disks, second was to load software I only had on CD/DVD [smile] If you can get access to another hard drive via a network, you could make .iso copies of your disks to...

Spell Checker

I've already voted for the spell checker on the wish list. Personally, I don't think it's an unreasonable request. Trying to spell check a native gedcom file is virtually impossible because of the way lines of text get split, and I simply disagree with the premise that I should prepare my notes in o...

I'm already collating the reports in OneNote, it's simply brilliant at allowing you to organise otherwise unstructured data, and I'm using Excel to keep track of what papers/articles I've processed. A seperate table in OneNote holds court case details for individuals detailing which court, if the pe...
