Re: Who should you add to your tree?
My granddaughter is at the root of my tree. I have her father's ancestors, extending back into the dim and distant past in Scotland. I have her maternal grandmother's fairly ordinary ancesors. Then I have my lot: my biological mother's ancestors and descendents (biological father unknown); my adopti...

Re: Finding Living People
Hi Malcolm
You may want to take a look at a little application called FTAnalyzer. It works ok on Win10. It will not only pick up where you have no deaths recorded, but a host of other issues as well, for example missing census entries. It's a very useful tool.

Re: Odd behaviour adding a citation
I've noticed that the Sources For box does change from Birth to All sources depending from where I'm trying to add the citation. From the individual's property record, it works as I expect. However, if it's from clicking in the date against a child's birth in the parent's property window, it seems t...

Re: Odd behaviour adding a citation
Having added one or more individuals via a seperate instance of Ancestral Sources, not running the AS add-in, I return to FH. I get a message to say that the file has been modified outside of FH, do I want to reload the file, to which I answer yes. When the file has loaded, I switch to the records w...

Odd behaviour adding a citation
I often use Ancestral Sources to add children to a family when they appear on a census and they are not already part of my database. I will then find the GRO birth index entry for the new additions and add a GRO source citation to give the details of the registration of their birth. However, I find ...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1
Mike, the quote is from page 6 of the file TFG551SAE Rev 1 2018-07-05.pdf downloaded from here: https://www.tamurajones.net/GEDCOM551AnnotatedEdition.xhtml and under the heading obsolete features . The quote is contained within a comment which gives me the feeling that this is not "offical" LDS guid...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1
Thanks for the clarification, Mike. Now, as we all await the general availability of V7, it thus becomes of considerable interest to know if V7 conforms to the 5.5 or 5.5.1 standard. As V7 will offer the long anticipated text formatting capabilities, I for one will be eager to move to the new versio...

Like this?
If there were source citations attached to the notes with the red dot or calendar icon, would they also be affected in the same way?

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1
I have quite a few notes like these that I use to place contextual information, for example, to help explain apparent discrepancies between a fact and the supporting source citation. This may occur, for example, in situations where name changes take place and a fact may relate to an individual with ...

Re: Larger projects
Projects can get an awful lot bigger. I've been researching now for over 15 years, and as Mike tends to recommend, I have one very large project that covers biological families for me, my wife, and my son-in-law, along with adoptive families, step-families and their biological relations too. As a re...

Re: Witness notes
The Will tab looks good, but I would like to see a lot more included, for example, the bequests to beneficiaries, the beneficiaries' addresses where these are specified (and one would assume providing a residence fact for the date that the will was written). I also have quite a few wills with more t...

Re: Drag and Drop between projects
I must admit that when working on my tree I have the luxury of two 27" monitors, one 1920x1200 and the other 2650x1440 so screen space is not an issue (that's not to say I wouldn't like to replace the lower resolution monitor with another at 2650x1440!). My concept of drag and drop between projects ...

Re: Drag and Drop between projects
I had forgotten about this, so I apologise for the very late reply. I don't like orphans in my main research trees, either individuals or sub-trees with no links to my main research - they clutters up me tree and they often get forgotten about, irrespective of whether or not they appear in trees, di...

Re: Witness notes
Hello Adrian Thanks for your help, it is appreciated. Sadly, your solution doesn't work for me; I seem to have fallen foul of FH's strange handling of NOTE2%. I've had a look at Mike's workaround, but as I've never embedded an expression within a sentence template, I'm now a little puzzled as how be...

Re: Witness notes
Thanks Adrian. I tried your suggestion, but it doesn't work, I'm afraid. I use the Will fact to record the creation of a will for an individual, and if there's anything of note in the will as regards that individual I will place a comment in a note attached to that fact. That appears on the individu...

Witness notes
I've been taking advantage of the reduction in the prices for getting copies of wills from the Probate Registry, and the many wills for Liecestershire folks that are available online, to add a lot of information from the wills to my tree. I've found it useful to add notes to the witness role for som...

Re: Formatting of ‘Text From Source’ in Narrative Reports (and website)
I note that my vote for this was cast in 2007. I probably voted 4 out of five in the same way as Strictly Come Dancing judges don't always award a high mark to the first pair of dancers in case a subsequent couple dances better :D so I was probably keeping "something in reserve" in case something be...

Re: Formatting of ‘Text From Source’ in Narrative Reports (and website)
I recall attending a WDYTYA exhibition in Birmingham some years ago now and speaking with Jane about the lack of text formatting in fH. It was suggested that it could well be coming in a new version soon. I really think it's about time this issue was sorted. It's crazy that I need to spend hours re-...

Re: Can Family Historian be simplified?
Hello Jacqueline I would not normally be the first here to suggest you read the FH manual, but I think it might pay dividends. I tried a lot of genealogy programs before I settled on FH and FH is by far and away the best. But, like things in many different spheres, it does repay the effort in gettin...

Cheap Wills
As you will all prpbably know by now, the probatesearch.service.gov.uk site is offering to supply copies of wills for £1.50 rather than the normal £10 or so price for the next 12 months. I intend to take up this offer and grab as many wills as I can. Now, I already have some wills downloaded, and th...

Drag and Drop between projects

I also have some...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
I've read this thread with interest as I find myself having to go back over early research where my enthusiasm for following a trail oftimes led to a less than meticulous noting of sources such that I now need to fill in the missing source references, and thankfully only occasionally, revise my rese...
