Diagram text
In the Diagram Options/Text/Edit Text Scheme... you appear to be able to change only the initial font, that is the font used to display the name. Is it possible to alter the font for the remaining items displayed?

Re: Synchronization between two computers
I use a utility called ActiveSync. The main purpose is to create a copy of my projects on my desktop pc onto my laptop. The program only copies new or updated files and there is an option to propogate deleted files on my PC that are on my laptop. As such my synchonisation is only one way, but it can...

I had no idea when I posted my original suggestion that it would spark such a lengthy and interetsing debate.

Events and Fact Sets
I appear to somehow inadvertently moved the Baptism event from the Standard Fact Set to Custom. I was trying to copy the Baptism event in order to create an event for "Received into the Church". However, when I copied the Baptism event, trying to place the copy into the Custom set, or so I thought, ...

Re: A question of presentation
Aplologies for the late response (sometimes family just gets in the way of family history research! :) ), and thank you to all who have suggested possible ways to solve my issue. I'll take some time to review all the comments. I have tried using Web-based output in the past, but I found I spent so m...

Re: A question of presentation
My primary objective is always to try and develop as complete a biography as possible of each individual in my project. As I normally share my research via narrative reports, it is within narrative reports that I would normally expect to present the information such as contained in this particular c...

Is it time to split the General Forum?
I cannot help but notice the increasing technical nature of posts in the general forum, to the extent that, if I were a new or inexperienced user, I would be quite put off using FH at all due to its apparent complexity. As someone who has been using FH since V3, and a 50 year plus IT practioner, eve...

A question of presentation
I have just completed the transcription of a Cause in the Court of Chancery, dating to 1849, in respect of the administration of the estate of an intestate. A line by line transcription now occupies 4 pages of landscape A3 paper in a very small font. I have subsequently re-formatted the transcriptio...

Re: Unknown Relations
I tend to leave unknown peoples' name entries blank, but if I have a first name, say of someone's wife, I put their married name in brackets, i.e. [Smith]. As I tend to work from the Individuals tab anyway, all unkowns appear first followed by the names in [ ] as a reminder that there's more work ne...

Re: de facto etc parental relationships...
A History of Adoption in England & Wales 1850 - 1961 by Gill Rossini is an interesting read for anyone researching adoptees and their adoptive families. However, if your adoption documents have been lost (it's said in a fire at Warwick Archives), all you know of your biological father is that he is ...

Re: Source templates
After following this interesting debate, I will continue to use my generic sources rather than embark on a lengthy process to convert everything to templated sources. As mentioned in one of the replies, I too have developed a structured method of using generic sources, both Method 1 and Method 2, an...

Re: Places and addresses
I understand your rules, Mick, I just prefer to use the columns in the same order that you would normally write an address. And it's easy enough to sort on the colums on the Work with Data/Addresses form, or knock up a quick query for a more detailed analysis. But when the first element of an addres...

Places and addresses
Is it possible to use a separator other than a comma to separate elements of places and addresses? This question arises from the situation where the initial element, usually of an address, has itself multiple elements, and concatenating then into a single field can look clumsy without suitable punua...

I would like to suggest the following as improvements to the useability of the find and replace process: 1. The Find and Replace dialogue box should remain open at the completion o...

Re: Repository when adding images
Yes, but the associated images may be from different places. For example, one may have a repository of the National Archives and an additional image may have a repository of a local archive. The intention is to define the locations where original images may be viewed.

Repository when adding images
How do I define a repository for a document image being added to an existing citation when adding the image? Also, is it be possible to filter the list of sources when adding an image so as to be able to locate more quickly the source to which to add the image - with several thousand citations, loca...

Re: Project opening warning/notice
I raised this a while ago, and following suggestions from other board members I have now a lengthy comment in the header record that defines the range of the research contained in the project, as well as the self-imposed conventions that I use, e.g. how places and names are used, e.g. when only a di...

Source templates
I have been looking at switching from generic sources to templated sources in future. However, I have been using FH for many, many years now and my principal project has grown to over 6,600 families, 20,000 individuals, 10,000 sources, and 71,000 citations, and as I explore more, reaching further ba...

LibreOffice is free and can do practically everything that MS Word can do, as well as including spreadsheet, drawing and presentation apps and for which there is copious amounts of documentation online. I have had serious problems with Word for very long documents i.e. > 750 pages, with tables of co...
