Re: Birth Certificates in the 1880s
Very useful replies - many thanks. My reason for asking is because an ancestor who had emigrated to New Zealand with his family had 'at sea near Buenos Aires' as his birth place on his marriage certificate. I have his birth certificate which says he was born in England. Yes the family had been to So...

Birth Certificates in the 1880s
Was it common for a family in the 1880s to obtain and keep their own family birth certificates? Not like they could email the GRO! If so how was it copied, by whom and where? Every reference to certificate copies I can find refers to modern days.

Re: DNA Kit fact
Having set up a DNA fact (attribute) and saved the project, on running the Charting Companion plugin and opening the descendant chart box, the DNA tab is not there as it is said in the User Guide that it should be. I have the latest version of CC. What now?

Re: DNA Kit fact
Mike,
Thanks for your reply and no, I do not know where that DNA Kit fact has come from. Will delete it and start again!

DNA Kit fact
Confusion reigns - I am trying to get the DNA kit chart from Charting Companion, but a thread in the plugin section here on the forum says the DNA Kit fact should be an attribute . However I find there is already a fact in the list - for DNA Kit - but as an event , and I am unable to change that to ...

Re: _FSFTID in Facts List
Many thanks to all - those _FSFTID facts are now duly deleted! Goodness knows where they came from (but I have imported and re-imported over time from Gedcoms and a few other genealogy programs!).

Re: _FSFTID in Facts List
Mike,
Thanks for that - I thought that might be it and ran the UDF Plugin again (as in my old post), but the result is that it comes up with 'No UDF Items found'. So I have got rid of the UDFs but not these _FSFTIDs! What next?

_FSFTID in Facts List
What is this _FSFTID which I seem to have scattered throughout my tree? If it is of no use/value, how can I delete them all in one go, withut having to trawl through each record?

Changing wording in Facts
On creating reports etc, I note that FH makes sentences around the basic facts. Sometimes these do not read as correct grammar etc. How do you change that. My example is that of my grandfather - under Occupation I have put Secretary to the Head of Control Commission, date 1945, place Germany. On a r...

Deleting UID fields
Is there any way of deleting all UID fields in one go without flogging down each record? I have run the Plugin and got a long long list of UIDs and am faced with clicking on each in turn, delete, enter etc. I have also checked that I do not want any of them - I will not be deleting anything crucial ...

Re: Reinstallation of v6 on changing laptop
I am suitably admonished - and will change my habits on archiving licence details etc! Many thanks for your advice, Mike, and also many thanks to the good folk at Calico Pie who have sent me a new temporary link to re-download the software. It is great to have such a responsive forum - and a good co...

Reinstallation of v6 on changing laptop
My old computer is grinding to a halt and I am about to take possession of a new laptop. I know folks are going to say that I should have archived the various upgrade downloads etc - but I can't find much. I have a CD from way back of v3.0.0 upgrade, an upgrade CD to v3.1.2, then a long gap to an em...

Adoption problem
My grandmother was adopted at the age of 10 in 1890 - well before the Act regulating adoption in 1926. At that time it appears child adoption was an informal and generally secretive arrangement. However I know exactly who the adoptive parents were, but also who my grandmother's biological mother was...

Duplicate Notes
I normally enter Notes as Local Notes but I now find that all of my Individuals for whom I had Notes have sprouted a duplicate, as a Note Record. This may well have happened while I have been doing a recent Merge of two trees, or equally it might have occurred while I exported a Gedcom file (and sub...

Custom Identifier problem
Tatewise, Many thanks for that helpful advice - it appears I am wasting my time as the Record ID does the trick. I am only inputting the Custom ID for each Individual (Record) as I wanted an unique identifier for each Individual. I will change my way of working! I have a long way to go to understand...

Custom Identifier problem
To answer your question - not quite sure!! Force of habit probably - I need to be in control and putting a number in a box! When I export to a Gedcom file - which one gets exported? That might have a bearing if I use another FH program (heaven help me!!).

Custom Identifier problem
Tatewise - many thanks for that edit to the script. And yes I have found no 101 missing!! All of this is not really earth shattering for my tree of course - but it is interesting academically! And very good for understanding scripts and plugins etc. So thanks folks.

Custom Identifier problem
Many thanks to both of you. I have run the script and there are no duplicate Custom IDs. And for good measure I have changed the column expression. So why do the file statistics still come up with 1249 Individual records when I - definitely - have 1250! I have some very close/similar records eg in m...

Custom Identifier problem
I think I have confused myself. I fill in the Custom ID field of the Individual Property Box every time I enter a new Individual. My last entry was for No 1250. However when I check the File Statistics (File-File Statistics in the menu) I get 1249 Individual Records. What am I doing wrong? How do I ...

Adoption
I have a problem with the presentation of an adoptee in FH. My grandmother was born in 1881 in London and from her birth certificate I know her birth mother (although the father's name is entered but is untraceable!). She was adopted by a couple in Hastings by the time of the 1891 census (although ...

Unable to reinstall v 3
I have a small problem! Having just migrated my laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7, and having faithfully backed up my program files, including Family Historian (v3.1.2) I can no longer reinstall it. Trouble is that I have upgrade CDs - 2.2.4, 3.0.0, 3.1.2 - but the original v 2 has long since di...
